Walk-in vaccination centres delayed and will not be ready until June: PM

The walk-in vaccination centres announced by the government earlier this week will not be ready until June, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the government said that walk-in centres would be set up nationwide in order to facilitate people receiving the vaccine, free of charge and without the need for an appointment.

Following the announcement, hospitals on Thursday were inundated with people trying to register for the vaccines. Some people even visited the proposed sites of the centres in a bid to try and get vaccinated.

However, on Thursday afternoon the PM said there had been a “misunderstanding” and that the walk-in vaccine centres will not actually be ready until June.

In response to fears that Thailand will have a shortage of  vaccine doses, the PM reassured the public that there will be enough vaccines for everyone, with the AstraZeneca vaccine due to arrive in Thailand as planned. The PM also said there is a stockpile of the Sinovac vaccine.

Meanwhile, Kiattaphum Wongrachit, permanent health secretary, also said the walk-in centres would be available from June.

The news comes as Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given emergency use authorisation for the COVID-19 vaccine of Moderna Inc, paving the way for the vaccine to be made available at private hospitals.

Previously, Thailand’s Private Hospital Association said it would aim to sell the Moderna vaccine at a standard price throughout the country, expected to be no more than 3,000 baht, which would include both doses, insurance coverage in case of side effects and tax.

Sure, it takes a lot of preparations to pitch a tent somewhere or to use a empty hall to put a table and a chair and start jabbing people, as i'm very sure that those who are in charge on making decisions their families, extended families and their friends ALREADY got vaccinated...

Maybe they are trying to get it so that you can drive through for your 90 day report and get a vaccination at the same time.

That sign alone would send me in the opposite direction ????

It does  seem to be that staying is detrimental to your health there no clear plan to vaccinate, Infection figures are at best doubtful, poor choice of vaccine and seemingly a lot of thais dont want to vaccinated

Are we just going to lock ourselves away till god knows when waiting for the covid knock on the door

Sadly and seriously i think the only way to get a timely vaccine is to leave and return home..leave them alone to sort it out.....but i suppose thats what they want.

This will get stupider.

When mass vaccination is available, there won’t be a national registry listing who was vaccinated, they will just give some paper card during vaccinations.

So, anyone can buy a fake vaccination card, a get out of jail free card for those who don’t want to wear face masks.

After a few months of this, the government will announce a plan to study the problem.

This won't be the last time we see the words: "Delayed" and "misunderstanding".

They were doing walk-in vaccinations for local residents at a site near the Bon Kai slums. Because many of the slum dwellers who had been given coupons didn't show up, they opened up to walk-ins in the afternoon to avoid throwing away the unused Sinovac.  A farang showed up with PR, tabien baan and pink card showing residence in the district but was told to go away - only for Thai people.  A lot of Thais looked at the densely packed queue and fled.  No doubt many vaccines were thrown out.

Great organisation by the new Czar.

Do you know who he is? Do you think he cares anything other than the elite, his Junta and.......? Peons are not in his vocabulary.

Yesterday's "walk-in center" becomes today's "walk-out center".

You are saying that the line for vaccinations was so long that nobody got vaccinated?

All a misunderstanding again.

So this guy was the top General was he?.. So just how would he have got on if ever this country needed to bare arms. "Sorry can't fight today can you come back next Month we not ready, it's all been a misunderstanding we sent everyone in the wrong direction or was it lack of direction, I'm not sure"

Complete with revolving doors.

Choice, doesn't enter in to it for Us or the Thai's or the Homeless.

I looked up "misunderstanding" in the Thai-English phrase book and it said "a temporary event resolved by a transfer of money".

Given that they have few vaccines, and no coherent idea when they will have a proper supply, then there is no particular hurry is there?

This is the man who changed the date for the general elections how many times ?

Somehow I just do not believe anything that is said by the goverment here .
