Well...let us all know how your holiday goes.  If it works out as true and the bars and everything else is ope , the I will also go there.

But I don't want to go if it's going to be a ghost town and all the shops and bars shut up.

Some bars, shops, restaurants won't open. Sadly theyr'e gone for now! But there are enough good uns left that will open

Every day when i look at Thai visa, the 1 person i see moaning in most of his posts is you moaning about other posters, give it a rest please, getting extremely boring.

  • This will really attract those 'quality tourists' en masse.

The scam is: it's not going to happen

imo it sounds more like a pathetic attempt to create a buzz

in the hope to attract again some attention on phuket  from

the international travelers

doing that with a fake news + false hopes to lure few tourists seems to be their choice

Yep, and it's only a "proposal" in any case.

In 2006, a tuk tuk was 500 baht from Karon to Patong.

No problem. You can stay in your $1/night hotel room for a week cooking Mama noodles in your kettle, before catching a bus to Pattaya ????

Does this mean 7 days for 7 $, even 30 days for 30$?

I'm sure they will try to fool us with 1 night at 1$, 2nd night at 80 or 100 $ by increasing the price of the 2nd night...

Sounds like a scam to get a dollar from foreigners and a way for hotel owners to get a backend subsidy as the July open date will be pushed back because of not meeting the 70% threshold, reservation dates will lapse, no refunds, so sorry Charlie, life moves along.

They still don't get it . Do people don't like the 1$ room . THAT isnt the issue . They should 1st inform us about the rules which they are making things . They can do free rooms , or even pay you , when it is very very hard to get there , nobody can/want to take .

So far , the rules are still 14d quarantine , when looking at my countries Thai embassy website , including a lot of paperwork , and extra insurance + COE , +...+...+... .

I read on this website every time the "sandbox" thing , which is not officially there yet as far as i know ( or isnt on the Thai embassy website ) , and even on the "sandbox" thing , i read different stories what supposed to be the rules . Really , hotels are the last of the worries and not the 1st , let alone the price point . Saying 1st they want high class travellers ,  big spenders ... and then give away rooms for 1$ to get people ...

I want clear rules , what is expected for me , what can and can't i do ( in case of "normal travelling" ) , what do i need to do and is that possible for me or not . Really the rooms are not anywhere in the demands anybody needs unless they know all others are fine .

How about 50% discount on all beers?

Bars are still closed and no alcohol in restaurants. If you've got any friends in Phuket don't bother to try and visit them as house guests are still not allowed either...????

They aint coming mate, gonna cost a family of 4 near $1000 for tests both ways without even the flights

Not bitter, but realistic. Prove us all wrong, or can you.

It doesn't matter what the topic is, the bitterness towards everything Thai from the same few names  is just  unreal ,I often wonder why guys who obviously hate the place don't go somewhere that makes them  feel  a little happier. But then again I'm pretty sure where ever they go they'll be just  as miserable...

Yea tongue in cheek just incase you decided to come earlier its just surreal that we have these measures in place still now and yet it all changes on 1st July if it indeed does and there are no further outbreaks

Rooms,  $1 Massage $1  Bed sheets and pillow 1,000 bht.  Nescafe in the Morning 300bht.  I'm sure something crazy lime this will happen.

If you fail the mandatory post PCR test though you will look back on the decision from your hospital suite.

They take you to a hospital for the full test.  If you fail that, then yes, you'll have to quarantine.  Same thing other countries are doing.

Rumour from Patong is that small bars may open on 10th June. Not important and only gossip but having worked there for 30 years, my missus is normally in the know.......

A group of bar owners submitted a partition to the big fella I think the reply was every bar girl has to be vaccinated before opening

A lot of the whingers don't even live here !!

What a lot of nonsense why $1 and not pay one night next free. Why subsidise hotels this has been normal in the past. Main problem is where are these tourists coming from with Asia suffering serious outbreaks of Covid every where

If their countries will allow them to leave, I say that because I know in Australia you have to have an exceptional reason to depart and would be like no less than 3 months away.

surely, I will try to take advantage of this offer, on condition I don't get virus from some asymptomatic foreign tourists and phuketians

A breakfast in Phuket costs more than the original price of a room

15 hours ago, RafPinto said:

As usual. You can't sell, put the price up.

That's the logic here mate.

God knows what goes through their heads..

Personally I'm looking forward to the baht collapsing again.

That will be the only time you will get a good deal on anything here.

Under the proposals, foreign tourists visiting the island would be offered rooms from just $1 per night. The rooms available would normally be valued between 1,000and 3,000 baht per night, with the rest of the cost being subsidized by the government

Ridiculous

With China just releasing a new strain of Bird flu I hope they are kept grounded for a long time to come.

If successful, the campaign could generate 40 billion baht for hotels in Phuket throughout July.

And bankrupt the government...

so tourism will be subsidised by the government.

I thought the idea was to get revenue coming into government coffers not the other way-around?

Mr Narong said that if all the people registered are vaccinated as planned then 65% of the island will have been vaccinated.

Goal posts moving again I see.

A little overly optimistic in my book, but hey miracles are possible and Santa Claus is real along with the Easter Bunny.  You have to believe in the ridiculous to believe these people.

If the government foot the hotel bill for international tourism it would be a miracle indeed.
