306,580 people across Thailand were inoculated against COVID-19 today (Monday) as the country kicked off the mass vaccination operation, to contain the spread of the pandemic, which has infected a total of 151,023 people during the third wave, which started on April 1st this year.

 

While the prime minister had said, earlier today, that a contract had been signed for the purchase of 25 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the Ministry of Public Health is “expected to sign term sheets” for the procurement of 20 million doses of Pfizer and just five million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines later this week.

 

The minister also said he had not been informed about some hospitals having to postpone vaccination appointments today adding, however, that they must provide an explanation if there are such delays.

Great if they have but call me a skeptic due to the habitual fudging of numbers in the COVID pandemic and anything else.

If the numbers are true (which I doubt) then they will run out of vaccines in 6 days.

Don't want to spoil the party, but even keeping this speed of 300k a day jabs...

130 days = 40 million 1st shot

130 days = 40 million 2nd shot

 

Take out 1 day a week, and some public holidays....that is a full year...

And only if, and that is a big IF everything keeps on this speed, which it may not.

They have already spun it around so that the hospitals have to provide reasons why the Health department won't supply enough doses to them.

I find these numbers very hard to believe. Everywhere inocculaion appointments have been canceled due to lack of vaccins.

Good start but a long way to go believe that the J&J requires only one shot so if they can increase supply would be good news.

Keep this speed up? It will come to a juddering halt in 6 days when the vaccine runs out.

Yesterday evening they were claiming 143, 116 (billed as nearly 150,000, it's not, it is over 140,000 but never mind the Primary 4 maths error when rounding to the nearest 10,000!).

 

This morning it leaps to 306, 580!

 

That is quite a discrepancy, even for this bunch!

 

I don't get it. For several months we have been told (to great fanfares) how the Thai produced AZ vaccine will save everyone, with millions of doses rolling off the production line, yet every other day we hear of millions of other vaccines being sourced and purchased (or donated) from other countries. It doesn't add up.

They sell it to the philipines as well, knowing there is a shortage.

Time to fit in private hospitals for moderna pfizer for those who want to pay for it

So it looks like AZ in Thailand hasn't either come up with the goods, or Prayuts dream of 100% of production here staying in Thailand didn't pan-out.

Now they're scrambling signing contracts for other vaccines which is what they should have done last year.

Simple... AZ produced in Thailand wasn't for the sole benefit of Thailand... which is what Prayut hoped for.

They can boast this daily figure today to make themselves look like saviours of the nation, but this was the first day when vaccines were available.

Give it a couple of weeks when it's not  readily available and then wait for the second jabs to compound the issue, then see where this shambles ends up.

We cancelled appointments today, as we don’t have any vaccine.

We believe this is due to the fact that you have <deleted> up the vaccine procurement process.

Explanation if there is one?   Most likely hospital will use one given by himself " not enough vaccine to go around " ????

 

This government are dart throwers at some point you hope one of their ideas and dreams goals actually come close to hitting the board that is what is left in their bag of ideas?

 

They have come to the point of no return with vaccines in sight they can't turn back and go back to full lock down it is all piece meal. As outsider all you can do is pray that whatever vaccine is being used works well enough it lowers the numbers those who can't or want to wait for more proven vaccines have herd immunity as only protection. ????

Mighty impressive, this coming from a full-time critic of the regime.

 

At this rate they'll push through the available stock in less than two weeks. So here's hoping the next shipment (mid-month) rolls in.

 

Obviously a long, long, long way to go, and made even more arduous when you consider yesterday's efforts need to be repeated in 16 weeks.

I thought it was well known (obviously not) that they have to distribute some AZ from Siam Bioscience to others under the AZ licensing agreement. 

 

AZ didn’t just decide to give their IP to Thailand for their own use, it is meant to be relatively fairly distributed amongst other SE Asian countries.

 

Apart from that, if everyone took the ‘I am alright Jack’ attitude to vaccines, where do you think Thailand and the rest of the developing world would be ?

 

It’s time to show some human generosity and kindness.

At 9 am in Cha Am  they had run out of stock and sent everyone home and they need to register again

Pretty good Thailand. France, the UK and Italy are currently averaging about 500,000 vaccines a day. If Thailand can manage those kind of numbers consistently, they will be well on the way to reopening.

It goes to the Philippines as well because that is explicitly written into the licencing agreement Siam Bioscience has with Astrazeneca to be able to produce their vaccine in Thailand.

They shot their wad in the first 2 days and now scheduled vaccinations past that have been cancelled.  

 

Once they reload we will get another 2 day spurt.

 

I did manage to get an appointment booked on the 22nd but I will not be surprised if it gets cancelled too.  My wife had an appointment for the 11th.  We called the hospital yesterday and it has definitely been cancelled.

 

Silly of the government to ask hospitals why they are cancelling vaccinations appointments when it is the government causing them to do so.

They quote the numbers  how many were foreigners ?

If you read a topic from a few days ago Thailand have been selling their locally produced AZ to Malaysia. Even though their license agreement with AZ is to provide, not sell, AZ to other ASEAN countries Malaysia has been BUYING from Thailand. As usual money first, people last.
