Oh my Buddah house arrest while on holiday what a lovely and appealing scheme. I wonder if they'll get their number of steps per day tallied and is their a shagging meter as well ( count how many strokes per Newton meter maybe) got to stay fit !

So just to summarize if i may,

First Thai big head pushed and promoted Phuket opening for vaccinated tourists with no restrictions but having to stay in Phuket for 7 days before moving on.

Around 60 or so thousand people booked.

About 3 weeks prior to opening date, Big Heads decided to change it to 14 days and stay must be ONLY at government approved hotels, ie expansive

About 1 more week later, 2 weeks prior to opening date, half the reservations cancelled due to newly introduced idiotic rules, so to improve Big heads introduced tracking wrist band to be worn by all.

In the mean time, bars and all the rest are to remain closed.

Anyone heard the saying shooting yourself in the foot? Well Thai Big Heads sure managed to let out not one , not even two but 3 shots, all in the same foot.

It take some serious thinking and IQ deficiency to pull this one out

Phuket Prison Camp?   Every incentive not to come.  Who thinks up these ideas?

Could it be thee importer of these tracking devices?  Nice profit selling them to Phuket immigration?  Are they water=proof or will swimming be among the banned activities?

Special feature will sound the remote alarm if the wearer is drinking alcohol or socialising with Thai Bar Girl.

I am not a criminal in my country. so why should I wear a wristband like a criminal in my holiday?? Thai people need to think before they do. Tourists don't want to be followed 24hrs a day. Holiday is for relaxing and fun and not for feeling locked up or watched

are they waterproof

Is it waterproof? What happens if you take it off? Presumably it needs charging at some point.

Will they use the data to spot people leaving the island (not that anyone would be stupid enough to wear it while they did that) or are they going to be actively looking for groups of people in unexpected places on the island and then turning up to bust up drinking, etc?

If it's programmed by the geniuses who devised the intervac and IMM booking sites, then this little piece of jewelry will be no hindrance to tourists. Even if it's a bonafide working GPS tracker, who is going to be keeping track?* I see a glitch on this digital highway.

*How silly of me: it could of course become a great money spinner for the trackers.

The Phuket Panopticon
Comes with a tracking bracelet, force imprisonment with time off for good behavior, and numerous Covid body-cavity searches.

No need to worry, this is only Phuket Sandbox Experiment, Iteration #1. It is only to test the numbers of gullible, not to say dimwitted, foreigners prepared to follow the 'Guantanamo' model of tourism; there will be plenty of revised iterations along shortly.

Just wait till the rendition flights begin....

I expect them to walk this back in less than a week and the requirement will revert back to downloading a tracking program on your phone.
However - if they decide to sally forth with this - yes, it will be entertaining as Thailand is taken to the woodshed.

They have finally placed foreigners on the same level as criminal parolees. And for the entire world to see.

Actually, I think criminal parolees would probably have a better chance of getting a vaccine in Pattaya than retired expats do, so we're really somewhere below the criminals, lol.

People coming to Thailand now with a work permit are allowed to quarantine at home after purchasing ( and registering the wristband) and installing the tracking app on their phone as well. In addition they must pay for the official transport from the airport to their residence. They are allowed to move around within 500 meters of their residence then after a few days a Covid free test then at the end of 14 days another Covid free test. Then they give the wristband back to the vendor. So the total cost I had to pay so that my colleague from Singapore could come was:  wristband 17000

                      Registration fee.   3500

         Transport fee to Korat.  18000

         Follow on Covid tests.    4000

Oh and then the bad news after being released from home quarantine he had to attend a business meeting in Buriram province and Buriram implemented their own restrictions and required him and his two colleagues to get a Covid test in Nong Ki at the government hospital where there was a long que to be tested ( 3 to 4 hours) all of them had tested Covid free in Korat the same day and the following day in Buriram after being tested but no time to wait for the results they were excused and told that they would be contacted with the test results. Well all three of them became sick with Covid the next day and fortunately no life threatening  reactions but all three ended up in the hospital for 15 days( 3 different hospitals) getting grossly overcharged..what a place !

They really don't have a clue how Westerners think, or how this tracking bracelet will be received.

I can see people arriving in Thailand and blankly refusing to wear them.

We don't like authoritarianism and this action exemplifies it.

Why not just add a yellow star of david?

You gotta admire the Thais, there was everyone saying that once you have the vaccine you can be tracked by Bill Gates and you will be magnetic and it was all just conspiracy lies and the Thais are doing their infinite best to actually prove that no, this is not just BS, if you come to Thailand and have been vaccinated we can track your every movement. They can also guarantee that as they have the best data security in the world as soon as you land in Thailand not only will every criminal in the world know your whereabouts but they will also have access to all your documentation. I'm sorry to say that although I am not a criminal I do NOT want anyone tracking my whereabouts and to me the whole thing just looks like one giant scam whereby no matter how virus free you may be upon entering Thailand their sole purpose is to get you into a nice expensive ASQ. I think that those coming up with these ideas could actually do with taking a holiday so that they understand what tourism is actually about, preferably a very very long holiday.....
