But he is retired, woke, young and a loud mouth.......all for his 5 minutes of YouTube fame.....

I'm tempted sometimes to confront Covidiot expats that don't wear masks inside but I wisely stifle it. It's not as if they'll comply. It's only asking for trouble.  What gets me is that Thai staff seem to not confront them either. 

About that black guy -- he's got serious issues of being totally obnoxious.

After due analysis and diligently watching all of the videos available, I would summarise him as just another self impressed gobshyte with his hat on back to front.

 

Remarkable, looks like the sort of chap who sleeps in his vest!

 

I have I know suggested before that wearing a baseball cap if over the age of 25 should be a criminal offence. Wearing one back to front should be a capital offence. Wearing such a deeply unpleasant floral one should be sufficient cause for summary justice!

I appreciate your acknowledging that the word "woke" was being misused earlier on the thread. I totally agree the situation could have been handled differently. There's a lot of misinformation out there about the need for wearing masks, we don't know how politely or otherwise the white guy asked/told him to put on a mask, or if the black guy was fully aware of any mask requirements in place in Pattaya.

 

I'm not defending the black guy, but if he was fully vaccinated and under the impression that wearing a mask was medically unnecessary, and some white guy in a foreign country came up and ordered him to put a mask on, I could see how that could trigger resentment. The guy may have had a chip on his shoulder attitude along the lines of: 'You might think you can order me around back home, but we're not in Kansas anymore, so get out of my face.'

 

It's entirely possible that he was just being a "rude, arrogant, and disrespectful" jerk. But there's also a lot of pent-up frustration about racial and social issues out there  and I suspect this may have played a part in this interaction.

Honestly, I really refuse to believe that anybody who has made it to Thailand is unaware that wearing a mask is mandatory.  The guys whole attitude reeks of self importance.  What relevance does "I make money" or "I retired at 25" have to do with wearing a mask?  Sounds like he is just too arrogant to care and thinks the rules don't apply to him.  Maybe because he is a big dude he is not used to be challenged and he didn't like it when somebody did.  The guy without the mask was in the wrong on all levels. Firstly, not wearing the mask in the first place, secondly for his absolutely disgusting reaction which makes him look like a real piece of <deleted>.

He's just mad because he realized he brought a sandwich to a banquet.

Thai police are very keen to hunt down the "lovemaking on the beach" and "too much bum cleavage near a temple" offenders. Let's hope they find this guy (and his maskless gf) and educate them regarding the current law.

There's a potential 40,000 THB in fines to be collected.

I'm sure his Russian girlfriend is with him for his demeanor, not his money.

 

As for the other guy, that's why I wear my mask, so I don't have to talk to other expats with man-boobs.

He should be wearing a mask, it's the law.

 

If he persists then he will work his way up the sliding scale of fines all the way to the 20,000 Baht per incident level.
