Australian expats living in Thailand say they are insulted by their embassy's Facebook joke.

Expats have branded a tongue-in-cheek Facebook joke about coronavirus vaccines by Australia's Thai embassy as "insulting" and "ridiculous".

Australia's embassy in Thailand has published a Facebook post saying mRNA vaccines stand for "M - Meat Pie, R - Rocky Road, N - Neenish Tart" and "A - Avocado Toast".

"While acronym could mean different things for different people, here's what our page see what mRNA stands for and that's the Australian much-loved food and snacks," the post on Wednesday read.

The Embassy staff clearly have too much time on their hands. It would be better spent trying to secure vaccinations for its subjects.

All us Aussies do have a sense of humor, now where can I get a French Passport?

I don't believe any of it. I'll ask my Aussie expat-friend if he is offended, while he have coffee this morning.????

Obviously the person who wrote it. I sure didn't.

If the Australian Ambassador thinks that the post above is reflection of Australian humour then he needs some serious help. I didn't find anything offensive with the post per se but I was strughling to see how it would be defined as "aussie humour". The Ambassador is obviously about as funny as a wet fart on a first date. Based on his recent ihterview where he stated that he and his staff had been "working from home" to protect themselves ( even though they are fully vaccinated) I would suggest that the Ambassador is encouraging this humour in order to get through the perilous overseas posting that he is currently enduring on behalf of Australia's mission abroad.

As an Aussie stuck in country the only thing that offends me is the pitifully slow vaccine rollout.

I think it’s more disgust than offense, the embassy staff are all vaccinated, so it’s their version of “let them eat cake “ or in this case Aussie deserts.  Maybe rather than copying Marie-Antoinette they should be copying the French ambassador who procured vaccines for all the French citizens in Thailand.

10% vaxxed people in a first world country - now that's a joke..

No, not really. It's a big island with 90% of the population living in 6 or 7 cities. Easy to shut down.

Low infection rate and just about the lowest death rate in the world from covid.

All of which means they were slow to take off with vax. Plus the EU stole a couple of million AZ vax that Oz had on order ...

I reckon its a thing with them soyboys that proudly ponce around with their man buns.

Finding that pathetic offering unfunny doesn't mean you lack a sense of humour, perhaps just one a little above kindergarten level or from this century.

I'm sure the Ambassador himself doesn't do inane postings on Thai Facebook sites, and the poster who did will already have had a talking to about her lack of judgement concerning sensitive issues.

For those who have never previously heard of avocado toast it may be time to plan a refresher trip back into the world where you would find breakfast menus in much of the western world have dishes based around this.

I occasionally have it for breakfast here in Thailand.  Avacardo trees are an up and coming crop in rural areas.  We've planted a number of trees on our property and have found an eager market in Bangkok for fruit from a neighbors farm.

I hope the poster on here who has had his avatar pinched sues.

(Smiley emoticon removed - how apt!).
