Thailand proposes 10 year visas and land ownership for foreigners - again

None of this will work other than attracting Chinese and African criminals, Hong Kong refugees and a few random Indians.

They're thinking they're going to get the cream of IT workers, in reality in going to be a bunch of social influencer morons and sluts.

The income / demands are about 65% higher than where they need to be.

Most importantly, it offers nothing.

I am in one of those groups. Pity I have no trust in any Thai administration to treat me fairly after nearly 30 years here. Too little too late.

Stories like this make me want to vomit all over my keyboard, especially during the crisis we are currently facing.

They see us as nothing but cash cows.

That includes all Thais, from the hookers sat on the curb to the billionaire pigs in the highest echelons of Thai society. Where is the humanity, Thailand? Does it even exist here??

Sickening stuff!

To be very honest, where does the thing called humanity exist on this planet? Hookers on the curb and the billionaire pigs are ALL the same, anywhere on this planet.

Humanity? LOL

There might be one or two freak exceptions somewhere...

Great laughing medicine. Once again those who make up these delusional suggestions have no idea of the real world. Millionaires would not want to spend their lives in Thailand.

Now the weekend millionaires this is more appealing too and contribute to the economy with family etc.

Again these people have no idea of the real world and only believe that the universe centres around Thailand.

How do they manage to sound so arrogant, with a "rich farang" begging bowl out, and their heads that far up their rectums?

The expats would be divided into four groups:

1. ‘Rich’ global citizens

2. ‘Wealthy’ retirees

3. Digital nomads - or professionals working from Thailand

4. Highly skilled professionals

5. Retired bums

Majority would be #5

All noise until anything happens. The digital nomad visa is a winner for remote workers, but the devil will be in the detail and all the meaningless hoops that will no doubt be added that's out of touch with how globally positioned people actually work.

Thailand did do something like this to help bring money in after the 1991 recession (the condo act), and in 1997 (the sale of various significant real properties to foreign corporations for development). It's not unprecedented and it will probably become necessary if Thailand seeks to rise out of the current recession quickly.

I for one am looking forward to acquiring a nice beachfront home if they go ahead with freehold for foreigners.

How many times does the Thai government trot out this old troll?  I'll believe it when I see it.  Until then, they can keep jabbering away.

Land ownership for farang will happen at the same time as the illegal buildings on sea side of Walking Street are demolished.

Please make a deposit and then <deleted> off.

I can't say I did not see this coming. After 15 years to nearly the day of making things more difficult for people to stay in Thailand, the blood flow to the countries coffers is finally at critical level. Lack of money can overcome xenophobia.

They will be throwing in a set of steak knives next.

Immediately after reading this article came to mind the greed and racist human value classification. Why do you start marking foreigners when you come to Thailand with bracelets of different colors that would make you see the value of different people in Thailand.

Window dressing for a failing regime. Educated rich people would not be interested in Thailand for one second. They usually do not invest in corrupt third world countries, let alone want to live in one.

Sounds ok of it was for Normal people not just for the HI SO and Super Rich.

If I had All that money to plash around I wouldn't be here .

Do you mean all the foreign people living presently in Thailand are some uneducated but rich whatever?

I cannot agree with you at all.

There are many very rich foreigners, some married very happily to Thais, some to their own nationalities (or other non-Thai) living in Thailand very happily with a family and are satisfied.

They plan their holidays as they want, return back to Thailand and do the rotation all over again as per their wishes.

Many of them, I've never seen, spen their day thumping on a keyboard 80% of the day!!!

Yes, some of us, unfortunately, base our lives on the "keyboard warrior/expert" standard - we are aggressive, gather around with the like-minded and protect our 'territory' at any cost - bashing and insulting anyone who does not think like us or agree with us >>> does that sound a bit familiar? Rings a bell somewhere...???

(ALL the wealthy and the Rich cannot be put in one basket - there are many categories of them ???? )

According to the article they would need to hold a Masters Degree or higher.

I wonder how many meet that criteria ?

Sorry for my evident poverty. I retired to Thailand a decade ago, I have a Thai wife and Stepdaughter that I support. You see, I could have a better standard of living in Thailand than I could have in my own country, the USA. If I had the amount of money you are requiring in exchange for the mentioned benefits? No, while I would be happy to visit, there are many places to visit if you have those funds. My thought for the “sweet spot” for Thailand is in the growing retirement market for many of us having the steady 65,000 baht a month required income but out priced in our own western countries.

An obvious question: Will this wunnerful new arrangement - assuming it ever becomes a reality - apply only to newbies attracted to Thailand by the new scheme? or will it potentially apply to those of us already here who meet one or other criterion?

Just more endless talk, talk, talk.  And, in this case, poorly thought out talk.  Absolutely no imagination in any of this and all far too rigid.  What happened to increasing the foreign quota for condos, by the way?  That was actually one good idea--likely strangled to death since it made sense.
