How many entrepreneurs do you think will open a business again after having theirs destroyed by short sighted govt (none who have missed a paycheck in any country) for a virus that is not a grave thre

"Well obviously it will. It's still a seaside resort, but it will take a long time."    I don't think that it will take long for Pattaya to get back to its shabby glory. Most bars are simple

Let's hope they ban ALL chinese tourists until they can prove they have had a NON chinese vaccine.   But I dare say money will override all vaccine efficacy concerns in the end.

Yawn. Same old, same old.

For many years people have been saying Pattaya is dead. The city is still buzzing with life and has never ceased to do so. Why do these clowns keep using words like 'dead'?

Pattaya is a piece of paradise and will never die in any form.

Obviously there will be many owners who lost a lot or all of their money. But that doesn't mean business won't continue. It will continue, just with new owners.

That will only happen if new people buy the bars .

Whether we who live here now will still recognize the place in 5 years I doubt it.

if you drop bread crumbs every day, you should be able to find your way back... good luck.

I am sure if there is money to make some people will buy or build bars - if the price is right.

I saw a couple of articles in the news that many rich people got a lot richer during Covid times. There are always people with money to invest.

Nah, not having that. Unfounded and cliched. You could even say more would go there if they 'cleaned' all that up.

I used to go for beach holidays ............. Da Nang.

Cheaper and easier to get to (from Chiang Mai), way better beach with clean sand and water. No visible prostitution, no ladyboy pickpockets, cheap public transport, bars serving beer at $1/bottle. Better tourist attractions.

Why would anyone go to Pattaya?

There's hundreds of thousands of middle aged men spread around the globe who haven't cleared their chest for 18 months, Pattaya will be back..

now that they have completely killed the nightlife, bars, etc. it will return as a super cheap low cost destination where the chinese can sit on beach chairs covered in towels and buy copied goods at the malls...

I doubt that any rich people would want to own a sleazy Pattaya bar .

The usual type of owner was a middle aged Westerner who suddenly acquired a large lump sum of cash and thought it would be a good idea to buy a bar in Pattaya where he could have as many beers and girls as he wanted and still earn a profit

A definite possibility.  Casinos will be inevitable in Thailand.  They can't resist the money opportunties

I think Casinos are a certainty, new condos and Malls are still being built, investments of billions of baht, they are not doing this for nothing, they are not doing this in the hope that sex tourists from the likes of the UK come here to get drunk for 2 weeks in Soi 6.

I believe that people who are investing Billions of Baht probably have some insider knowledge of the future plans for a new Pattaya, and those plans won't be factoring in the old demographic.

I am surprised they haven't already. It would be a massive draw. It would make Pattaya the entertainment capital of SE Asia.

Too late: they are already doing that at Sihanoukville.

or the bank loans have been previously approved and this is just the result of commitments made years ago... how many new ones?

Umm. No. Pattaya doesn't have a patent on the oldest profession.

That popular opinion is at least 5-10 years out of date imo.  The new Pattaya can survive just fine without the sex trade.  Lots of middle class Bangkok couples/families come to Pattaya on weekends and probably more than of 75% of (pre-covid) tourism was not related to the sex industry.

There will still be a sex trade here just as there would be in any similar urban beach resort globally. But a lot less dominant.

I can't comment on that, I only know what I see today.

Of course it's doesn't, but at over 1000 bars, if you like to partake in the delights of pay for play then sooner or later it will end up as your favourite destination.

They have probably been sat at home discovering new ways to get their sac emptied and they may not feel the need to travel half way around the World for their monthly sac emptying

No doubt theve took matters into there own hands, am taking about the chaps who only spend 2 weeks/ month here who've got bursting bank accounts now desperate to get here, you only have to look on those YouTubers live stream comments to feel their pain,

Don't be too sure about the old Western demographic not being catered for where casinos are concerned. A sports bar/casino on or near Soi Bukhaow would be rammed 24/7.

High roller places for visitors from Arab nations would be another example of target marketing. The possibilities are endless and experienced operators know their business inside out.

I don't know much about Pattaya bar owners but a know a couple of them in Bangkok. And at least with the gogo bars there are lots of owners who (pre Covid) knew what they were doing. Many of them own several bars and often for a decade and more. And then there are others who seem to own the bars mostly for money laundering.

New people will only buy bars when tourists come back, and tourists will only come back when people buy new bars.

Meanwhile, the bar girls will only come back when tourists come back, and tourists will only come back when the bar girls come back.

It will take years to get back to pre covid levels of adult nightlife here, and even then, the nightlife would have changed, moving online.

Guys on holiday looking for sex will come anyway, not a lot of thought into it, as they come back bars etc will start popping up quicker. Thai friendly is full, massage shops will be available, but it all requires no quarantine and vaccine double dose for it to start getting back to normal
