Foreigners living in Thailand are set to get some of the US donation of Pfizer vaccine that arrived in Thailand yesterday according to comments made by PM Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday passed on by government spokeswoman Traisuree.

Sanook reported that the Thai prime minister said that no VIPs would jump the queue ahead of front line health workers to get part of the 1.54 million doses donated by the US government.

Traisuree said that front line health workers would get 700,000 doses and 645,000 doses would go to people with high risk of death from Covid-19.

A total of 150,000 doses would be split between the elderly, those with seven underlying health conditions, women pregnant for 12 weeks, foreigners residing in Thailand and students going abroad.

5,000 doses are going to research purposes and 40,000 doses are being kept in reserve for possible new variants.

The news about foreigners getting a share of the vaccine was not mentioned as a stipulation by US Charge d'Affaire Michael Heath.

In written replies to questions made in Thailand's print media he said that "our vaccines do not come with strings attached".

His aim and that of the US government was to "save lives and end the pandemic".

He praised the work of Thai doctors and nurses and public health officials in Thailand mentioning the usual rhetoric about cooperation between friendly nations and standing together in times of need.

He noted that all governments made mistakes including his own.

Did Heath get a public thank you from Prayuth, as the UK did with its gift?  Just wondering?  I didn't hear it. But I miss a lot of news. Anybody know?

Why would there need to be research on the vaccines? Would it need to be tested for efficacy against other variants? 5000 doses seems a lot for research.

there are still millions of unvaccinated elderly, ill and some 500 000 foreigners

Good to know if any posters here get any of these gifts.

To be fair I can't imagine all the hi-sos haven't be taken care of already........they won't have waited this long for a jab.

My thoughts exactly. They will have been triple- vacc'ed already.

Given that front-line (medical) workers have been fully vaccinated, with 2X Sinovac.

And almost all (99%) of the population fully vaccinated - 3,786,244 - are also 2X Sinovac. (The pm is in the minority with his 2 doses of AZ.)

What does it say that front-line medical workers now need a third shot of Pfizer?

And what does that mean for the nearly 3.8 mm people "fully" vaccinated?

This Pfizer mosh-pit is already ugly. It will get much, much, much uglier. There will be many, many threads on this one.

I don't understand this. If there is a new variant, what are they going to do with the doses other than inject them? Why not inject them now?

The 40 K is probably the loophole.

.... and how are they going to manage that for those living in the provinces? Give it out at Bang Sue station, Bangkok again?  ☹️☹️

I do not understand your logic....Many foreigners in Pattaya willing to pay 3800 baht+ for future moderna in Pattaya.  Why not pay 2200 baht to a private taxi company now and go to Bangkok to get your vaccine?

Researching how it can be copied and produced by Thailand

Why Pattaya? What about the rest of Thailand?

Now you see'em. Now you don't.

Don't worry Uncle, give them to the VIPs first, they better be the guinea pigs.

So the 5,000 doses will go to the research team here in Thailand trying to create their own mRNA vaccine?  Reverse engineering possibly ????

645,000 doses would go to people with high risk of death from Covid-19.

A total of 150,000 doses would be split between the elderly, those with seven underlying health conditions, women pregnant for 12 weeks, foreigners residing in Thailand and students going abroad.

What is the difference between the group of 645,000 dose people and those with 7 underlying health conditions ?

Why do students going abroad need this Pfizer?  Most western countries are offering free vaccines.

How many foreigners residing in Thailand will get 1 dose of Pfizer?  If they get 1 what happens when they need their 2nd jab?

How does one register for one dose of Pfizer (and hopefully the 2nd jab too) ?

To research presumably, how effective it is upon those with "blue (green?) blood"!

Reason being VIPs have received Pfizer vaccinations in previous  donations
