Two pet dogs have died after being poisoned according to local residents in Banglamung, part of the Pattaya area.

Pattaya News reporters were notified by local residents yesterday afternoon about the incident (September 10th).

The two dogs in question were found dead in front of a house in Soi Khao Talo, Nongprue, and are a black male golden labrador aged around 8 months and a female pit bull aged around 5 months.

They could have eaten anything if unsupervised.   Grapes, onions, raisins avocado,  and many other things are poisonous  to dogs, and I don't see Thais feeding them real dog food.  Mostly  scraps from the table which often contains things that are deadly  for dogs.  Perhaps it could have been owners if they dont know which foods are deadly to canines

I would suspect a neighbour who had been aggravated by their behaviour or their using his home area as a toilet. Dog owners often feel their animals can do no wrong yet get very aggressive if someone picks on them. We all see how they are allowed to roam. Had one neighbour who was being aggravated by another who walked 3 or 4 dogs off leash in front of his house 2x a day, where they all <deleted> and whatever near his home. He once was putting chili powder or something down and she saw him and really laid into him... saw no error in her own actions or those of her dogs. But poison is so cruel.

They found a bag of blue chemicals and meat, Would that perhaps have contributed, as oposed to table scraps?

Poisoning any animal is cruel and unnecessary, the owners of the dogs should have been contacted by the relevant authorities to try and contain the movements of dangerous dogs for the benefits and safety of the community...

I live on a supposed Hi-so estate; a Juristic entity.  I am surrounded by baying or yapping dogs.  I go out for a daily walk and find dog excrement on the main soi where lots of children play.  In the UK there are 12 cases annually of blindness caused by toxicara canis.  This is in a civilised country with strict controls.  The accident rate caused by strays on the roads is well documented but is there an agency counting the spread of such diseases; not just rabies cases?

The sentence in the article 'Pattaya Police have been informed of the incident and are “looking into” the situation,' made me smile.

I'm struggling to figure out what unnamed "law enforcement" agency the dogs owner reported this incident to.

Unfortunately we don’t live in that type of Thailand.

We live in a Thailand where people allow their untrained dogs to roam, where they run out at runners and cyclists, where children have been attacked.  We comment on a forum where some people believe the rights of un-trained dogs exceed that of humans.

We live in a world whereby our opinions ‘pidgin hole’ us as animal haters if we do not believe animals have the right to roam freely in the streets.

There is intelligent balance, but it involves enforcement.

Dogs must have a collar stating ownership. If found outside of the house, the owner is charged.

Any stray dogs should be ‘removed'

Dangerous breeds must be licensed, if not, they must be removed. House and property checked to ensure the dogs are well trained, well looked after and cannot get out.

IF we want to live in a civilised world, we have to enforce a level of civility on those incapable of managing such for themselves.

I don’t think this is going to happen in Thailand. Part of what makes it a wonderful ‘mai-pen-rai’ kind of place to be is also the sole reason many of these issues exist.

The area has also been hit by motorbike thieves lately and some residents speculated that potential thieves were also killing the dogs to stop them from barking and alerting owners

That is a valid concern.

Really, what about slaughtering millions of animals so that humans can eat them, when it's not necessary, is that not cruel as well?

I still have to find an aggressive Labrador.

5 month old pitbull babies are neither...

I remember there was a big scandal when david beckham tried to remove mosquitos from his samui property and every buddhist came out and said to not kill animals... oh times must have changed.

Poisoning a dog is the lowest level of scumbaggery one can find, such human should be removed from society.

I was thinking the other day … what would happen to the dog population if it were found they spread C19?  It’s nice that we are the top of the food chain but it would be nicer if we used that position responsibly.

Not when they give me grief.

As reported," a Black male Golden retriever"  whether it is Black or Golden they are placid, but mix with the wrong gang and they are all trouble.

You know these pups were aggressive?

I definitely don't condone poisoning unruly dogs.

But I also don't condone people having aggressive dogs or dogs that never stop barking day and night.

If you want that move to some isolated area and stop making everyone elses life miserable that lives near you.

I have a suggestion, contact the village headman and advise him due to continued rat infestation you will be putting rat poison outside your property and ask him to advise  the troublesome owners to best keep dogs inside for the foreseeable future.

Did you ever see how a poisoned dog suffers ?

Soon after I arrived here in Thailand ( 6 yrs ago ) , they poisoned my old friend Floyd ( 10 year old already and very friendly )  just to teach the ' farang ' a lesson .

He suffered for 45 minutes in my arms before he finally died . All around me were thais staring at my dying dog and me while some were smiling . I will never forget this . ( Time for revenge will come one day ...)

Dogs , they do not do things like this .

Huh? When was the last time a "relevant authority" has taken any responsibility for, or contained the movement of dogs in Thailand? I have never heard of such an option.

I know this is a sensitive topic, as there are alot of people who like dogs infinitely more than they like people!

We know next to nothing about these dogs. Were they allowed to roam the neighborhood, and terrorize the children? Were they a constant nuisance with the noise they made? I know very, very few dog owners who believe in disciplining their dogs here, and very few will take responsibility if their dogs misbehave, so what Nawin (the owner) claims, really means less than zero. We would need alot more information to make a sound judgment.

I am not a supporter of poisoning dogs. Especially dogs who have a home. An argument to the contrary can certainly be made for soi dogs with mange, rabies, or those who make alot of noise, or bite the locals. Some Thai cities and towns deliberately cull the dog populations, as the soi dogs are completely out of control in many areas.
