Anutin: He's "ready" for Thailand reopening but pubs and bars have to be reopened with utmost care

Thailand's health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday that he was ready to reopen Thailand to foreign tourists again on November 1st.

But he told Thai Rath that the public would have to wait for details from the CCSA and that the reopening of pubs and bars needed to be done with great care to avoid spikes in more Covid-19.

The embattled minister was speaking at Government House yesterday morning after PM Prayuth Chan-ocha's announcements on Monday and a scheduled cabinet meeting.

He admitted he was yet to be apprised of the details of the plan to open up the country to ten nations of low risk saying that more details would be available on Thursday at the CCSA big committee meeting.

Pressed on whether the health ministry was ready and comments by the PM about the threat of new strains and spikes in infections he said it was time to reopen and then deal with the consequences.

Reversing or turning left and right from the reopening decision was not an option. They needed to deal with it and were ready to do so.

Pressed on whether patrons of bars and pubs would be allowed to congregate and consume alcohol he said that the infectious disease department would have to have Covid free setting protocols in place but this was still to be decided.

But he didn't rule out closing the country again when pressed on the matter saying that it "depended on the situation whether the country was opened up or not".

He defended his and the government's actions in the past saying that everything was done according to the situation at the time.

Everyone needed to work together but he conceded that the opening of Thailand's nightlife was a question that needed the utmost care as people congregated close together presenting a high risk of infection.

Devils always in the details. How can anyone truly make plans when the situation according to Anutin could be dependent upon the situation.....argh

Pleased to see that he is again commenting before being appraised!

On another subject, according to the internnet, the Krystal Club will be open tonight from 8.30 pm

So basically he said it’s time to put in place whatever protocols are required and just get on with it whilst assessing the situation as they go.

Not much different than any other leader who was at this stage when planning to reopen.

I know, I know - patience is a virtue - but let's be honest, how many tourists intend being virtuous for their entire stay here?

I thought December 1st was a confirmed date for alcohol in restaurants?

Will they open bars and nightclubs before allowing restaurants to serve alcohol?

A baiting post has been removed

It was neither confirmed as a date, or for allowing.

The sentence quoted was that they would be "ready" to "consider/discuss" alcohol in restaurants and opening of bars "by" December 1st.

So "ready" doesn't mean they will actually do it, and "consider" means they can consider and decline to. The only positive fluffy word is "by", which means they could actually consider (and decline...) any time between now and then...

The security guard ( and his trusty dog ) will arrive at 8 PM to open up for the night. After a hectic night swatting mossies and playing 'The Simsons Tapped out' on his iPhone he will lock up again at 6 AM.

Or maybe someone has bought him an Oxford concise  (OED), in which case that leaves these options.

Ah yes the Health Minister currently has no clue what the details are. Let alone any potential tourists who are supposed to be coming from 1st Nov.

Nothing happens until it's officially announced in the Royal Gazette, and that is someway off.

So can you explain what "almost pregnant " means? You seem to be good in " this " area.

Not only am I given to understand that alcohol is freely available in Pattaya area bars, but in Khon Kaen 2 days ago, bars were open and beer flowing-albeit in ceramic mugs!

Anutin needs to get to grips with the police and law enforcers before deciding whether to allow bars to re-open.

As usual Thailand is one big joke!

What planet do you live on?

More keyboard diahrea from the man who knows it all but won't book a ticket back to the land of perfection.

How can you put protocols in place for nana plaza, soi cowboy, patpong, walking st, lk metro and bangla road.

Their whole reason for existing is close contact entertainment.

As usual you miss out the bit about closing down again if their is spikes in cases.

If you confirmed or proved you were on one of the first planes back then you might get a bit of respect on this forum.

Is there any valid scientific evidence relating Covid-19 to alcohol? The authorities ban alcohol because it emboldens people to fight and reject stupid and unjust laws. 90% of tourists enjoy clubs, bars, entertainment and nightlife. Thailand without these is not attractive. More countries offer more freedom and more fun including Bahrain and Dubai, Mexico  Europe etc etc. These leaders think that stifling authoritarianism is the norm. It's not.

I live in Pattaya. Alcohol is NOT easily available. The cops are ruthless and arresting customers and owners...30K.

It isn't in Patong, or Kamala, or probably a few other tourist towns.

Booze freely available and no longer disguised - and all under the watchful eyes of BIB, traffic cops and tourist police.

And, not just in the Bangla RLD but all over the place.

He very clearly does!

Thailand is getting about 10,000 new cases every day and Anutin and the PM think it is ready to open up to tourists ! Western Australia has 0, yes, ZERO, and we are not open for tourists.  I know where I want to stay.
