However, the COE will still be used by those who enter Alternative Hospital Quarantine (AHQ) for those who arrive by land or sea. Once again this makes no sense. It was also announced that all foreigners that fly in will have to take another PCR test and stay at AHQ for one night and will need a COE. If that's the case, who is the Thailand pass for?

the sale of alcohol in restaurants is still banned and bars, pubs and nightclubs must remain closed.

No, it mustn't HAVE to. The pinhead prohibitionists CHOOSE this policy. ANY prosperous tourist attractions worldwide ALWAYS have their fair share of bars, pubs and nightclubs.

Changes hourly unfortunately.

It is only unfortunate for those that hang on every word and are in a rush to post "breaking news".

Better to wait and see what actually get approved and implemented.

Post of the day. So many fit that bill with their “breaking news”

It would make more sense to use the money for AHQ and get rapid test where you get results in one hour. They can have holding area at airport. But their way has you pay for hotel for one night and has you pay for test. Anything to make money off of a pandemic.

So, not really much point coming then. You can't expect tourists to come if there is no fun, alcohol in restaurants, pubs/bars, clubs, really free movement etc. etc. plus nanny-squad curfews. Just won't happen... dream on.

Patong is open so no problem getting drink

As a visitor to the UK a few weeks back I had to self isolate in a hotel for 6 nights and pay about £160 for the 3 tests post arrival, and you think one night is a problem.

They have blown their whole reopening strategy.

One of the main (perhaps only, certainly few ) night time attractions for tourists here in Chiang Rai (foreign and domestic) was the night bazaar area. Stalls, shops and hawkers selling a wide variety of clothing and Northern Thai artefacts and clothing. In the middle were a couple of "beer garden" affairs, where you could sit, drink a glass of beer, order snacks and watch the comings and goings. You could take your children there and they could perch on the edge of their seats and drink a glass of pop with the grownups. There was a stage for musicians, dancers, and the inevitable, ubiquitous "lady boy show".

No hassle, no trouble, no fighting, no drunks. Less risk of catching Covid than queuing for KFC in Big C!

Within a week of the bars being closed, virtually everything else was closed. People simply stopped going.

Several hundred jobs and livelihoods were lost, probably more if you consider the supply chains for the goods. Of course most of those were among the local hill tribe community ( predominantly Akka) so the powers that be couldn't give two hoots!

The puritans and the comic opera soldiers quite simply don't get it. People (Thai and foreign) like to relax, have a drink and enjoy themselves. If they can't, and that is known, then they won't come!

I happen one of those tourists who intend to travel to Thailand early November (6th to be precise) through the Phuket Sandbox and then Bangkok in order to experience a relatively quite Thailand.

If anything, this announcement has put me in a more precarious position as I was expecting a binary choice, either, a) scrapping COE, OR, b) COE but with less PCR requirements (i.e. one PCR instead of 2 upon arrival as is the current requirement). Having a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT system now entails me pondering whether a COE will even be valid by the time I arrive if I apply for it now. Otherwise if I wait for the new system to be up and ready by the 1st November (highly doubtful!) will I have enough turnaround time to process the documentation in time.

Absolute Madness!

From what I can see so far the only difference between sandbox and Nov 1st is 1 PCR test and no need to stay in a SHA hotel

Pathetic. Why do these muppets insist to keep insulting our intelligence. Covid really has shown up this country for what it is.

What's wrong with a rapid PCR test ? Or is that a problem for you

The UK probably uses one. So the hotel for 6 nights might be because of 3 tests, unlike Thailand's 1 test.

I wonder how it can work if they insist on PCR tests on arrival. They won't have the capacity at the airport to test hundreds of arrivals and provide the results in a decent time. Only way would be t switch to rapid antigen tests.

PM I open or do not reopen this is the problem. ????

????

Solution I reopen keeping everything closed????

Silly sausages.   The only way they will get tourists back is by allowing fully vaccinated people in without needing to fill out loads of forms/insurance etc and letting them start their holiday the minute they land.   Imprisoning them for 24 hours whilst awaiting the results of a test that is not 100% reliable sounds like a very stressful way to start a holiday.

Please come to Thailand and then after we have taken your money and your mind we'll let you go to 7 11 to buy some beers but you must go straight to your hotel room or your Thailand app will notify  the Thailand SS and the immigration will put you on their hit list, enjoy everyone.

Thailand’s night-time curfew shortened as country’s COVID restrictions eased

เคอร์ฟิวส์วันแรก.-2.jpg

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has announced an adjustment to the list of COVID-19 “dark red” provinces, a shortening of the night curfew to 11pm-3am, while convenience stores and shopping centres can open until 10pm, effective from October 16th.

Convention halls, exhibition centres and events held in shopping centres or hotels can open with no more than 500 participants, while maintaining at least one metre social distance, and participants must wear face masks at all times.

Meetings of no more than 2 hours may be held, but must allow for effective air-ventilation. Meetings with more than 50 participants, however, must seek advance permission from the local communicable disease committee.

Also if they are insisting travelers stay one night at a ASQ hotel until test results come in. They might as well turn the airport into a ASQ hotel, But you will be charged 5000 thb for one night. All money will be passed along to government officials in brown envelopes
