Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied reports on Tuesday that it had banned a donation of Moderna vaccine from Poland to Thammasat University.

Tanee Sangrat, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the news to break the shipment of 3 million doses of Moderna vaccines from Poland to Thailand contains misinformation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) received two letters from Thammasat University notifying Rzadowa Agencja Rezerw Strategicznych (RARS), a government agency in Poland has wished to donate the Moderna vaccines to the university.

Let me guess: Poland and the university claim they are waiting for the Thai government to finish the paperwork, and the Thai government will claim that they didn't get it, or some other fail.

The Cream really does rise to the top in the Thai government.   Nepotism and corruption at it’s finest.

  • The misunderstanding being, what do we get out of this personally? I mean, you can't just expect us to take free vaccines and give them away!!

Just like the million doses from the USA that Senator Duckworth was trying to arrange.

From link : “We were never informed about the aforementioned donation, and the recent update from the Embassy, agencies in Poland yet to discuss this ongoing matter.” said the MFA.

Funny how there is always a miss understanding where Thailand and vaccines are involved - oh, and the lack of availability of biros !

It is still amazes me and man many others that even in such tumultuous and uncertain times politics pride and positioning still play games to what ends really no one knows, where accusations and denials is still alive and kicking...

Deja vu    Same as the Pfizer from the USA.........The Government seems to be incompetent more and more day afer day

My guess is that Zuellig complained to the "government".

Or maybe Moderna did?

Free = no money changed hands?  Just a guess....

They've got millions of doses of Chinese vaccines still to get rid of; they won't let the proper stuff in without stalling.

Donations have been pre sold could be the simple and very probable answer to the misunderstanding confusion ????

Of course it does.

Exactly. No kickbacks on a donation so the government views processing this as unpaid work. The more they get for free, the less they have to buy and hence the less money they can cream off the top of the various purchasing contracts with the likes of the CCP.

Of course it would save the lives of some Thai people but nobody in government really cares about that.

Tanee Sangrat must have had his hands tied. Shame.

Why such a rich country needs donations?

Shame on you.

Instead of spending 100 Million on an opening party, buying submarines and other <deleted>, vaccinate your people and support the ones who are struggling.

Why Thailand doesn't "donate" millions of their chinese vaccines which their own people don't want?

we all know the depths to which thailands govts go in terms of arrogance ,incompetence, corruption and the art of making things difficult.i think it would be best if the poles and Ms duckworth laid it out plain and simple so the next step is charges in the hague much the same as we see with brazil and bolsinario, this is the way forward for thailand and the world.hang them by their own petard.everyone from the tourist,to someone wanting to visit their kids, the owners of restaurants and bars are sick to death of moron inc.lets get it all out in the open so the whole world can see it,come on CNN put it on the front page. i know its not PC but its peoples lives and welfare at stake here again

Would have been so easy:

A small letter which follows the donation.

Dear leaders, we have decided to help our friends out and donate 3 million doses of Moderna and as a sign of deep respect for accepting our gift, we enclose a cheque of 3 Million $

Kind regards,

Yet another donation. Yet another <deleted> up. As I said before, this government has no shame.

Someone tell the world donations are not needed here. Make them procure their own vaccines in the market place.

Any official responsible for delaying this delay should immediately be arrested and jailed. Or hung. No nonsense. There are no viable reasons why the approval should not be fast tracked and it should not take more than 24 hours. Not in the real world.

Thailand desperately needs as many of the good vaccines as it can get its hands on.

The lack of planning was catastrophic. Further delays now, are unforgivable.

If Thailand received this Polish donation, then the Red Cross could use this instead of the million doses that it is taking from the private hospital order arriving in November. Same for the public hospitals taking 200,000 doses, if these were not part of the private hospital order. If Red Cross paid for their doses, can they get a refund from Moderna?

Possibly because many other countries may not want the Chinese vaccines either.

I must admit, I had wondered the same thing!

Would the process be much quicker if the donation was given to Chula instead of Thammasat?? I wonder...

Looks as if Thailand's turning up its nose at the donation of quality vaccines from the US and Poland might be having an effect not realized. Look at this tweet from the US Mission to ASEAN.  More than 14.5 million doses for the Philippines. Over 12 million for Vietnam. Nearly 13.5 for Indonesia. Only 1.5 million for Thailand. And it looks like the 1 million additional Tammy Duckworth tried to get is no longer included.

Such staggering ignorance. It boggles the mind. There is no end to the hubris here. And it more or less proves my point that the entire leadership here is pathological, dangerous and needs to be removed by any means necessary.

Thailand is truly at a tipping point, and headed the way of Sierra Leone. The onetime Tiger of SE Asia is now a sickly, anemic, rabid, whiny, broke alley cat.

Criminal charges need to be brought against Prayuth and Anutin, the pathological twins. Right away. Let's context the Hague!

3 million doses of Moderna is a HUGE donation from Poland to a Thai University. I don't understand it? ????????
