Popular Post webfact
file photo Today we continue our series about people with a tale to tell about Covid. Of course, billions around the world have got their own story on what has been a life defining time for everyone. The editorial team at ASEAN NOW asked our membership for their voices - we were overwhelmed. Previous tales have concentrated on difficulties getting the Thailand Pass and returning to the Land of Smiles and an aging expat's warning about not waiting to get vaxxed. We have changed names to stop the possibility of defamation suits. Today we feature one from "William" - a man in the US who has a simple request to Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha: "To Prayuth Chan-ocha, sir. "My name is (William) and I am an American who loves Thailand. "I am very happy to see that my compatriots are leading the charge to come to your wonderful country. "I plan to be one of them". William then praised the PM for speeding up the Thailand Pass process (a story that featured in ASEAN NOW reports based on Thai press translations). He said that he received his QR code in just 4 days then continued to address the PM: "I would urge you to speed up the opening of Pattaya for the good of your people. "I do not drink and I have never been to Pattaya before. "It is not for me that I ask (this of you). It is for the Thai people who need jobs and money. "I have been in many places in Thailand and I will visit Pattaya to do my part to help your people." He finished off by thanking the PM in transliterated Thai in advance. ASEAN NOW notes that many in the expat community have done their bit to help Thai people through the pandemic organising soup kitchens and the like. While some have felt appreciated on a personal level others have reported indifference, excessive bureaucracy and even alleged xenophobia on an official level. William's simple message to the PM reflects how many are feeling especially when it comes to the plight of the average Thai fighting economic hardship after losing their jobs or facing other hardship. The Thai PM has faced much criticism, along with his cabinet and other leaders. The question now is whether he and his teams will step up to the plate not particularly on behalf of expats, but for their own citizens. Stay tuned for more Covid Tales on ASEAN NOW. His people are doing just fine and dandy driving around Pattaya in their Mercedes Benz on a firesale buying frenzy...that's the only reason I can think of why they are in Pattaya as most everything is shut and nothing that could not be found in the center of the universe (Bangkok) can be found in Pattaya except for the rows and rows of closed businesses. 8 1 2

Why on earth would somebody who has never visited or seen Pattaya ask for it to be opened up for the good of the thai people. A normal letter would be asking to open up more than just Pattaya 16 3

Popular Post Headgame
OMG. This has got to be a finalist in the Goofiest Letter of the Year to the Editor poll. Like you I don’t drink or have never been to Pattya in 11years in TH but seriously you are going do your part to help the Thai people by visiting Patts and pleading with the PM? Anybody with a brain and some common sense knows that the only thing that’s going to save TH is an election. Till then the screwing of the Thai people every where will continue unabated. i’m not a pessimist by nature but the situation here is so bad it may be incapable of recovery for at least 5 years. William, send a follow up letter to the PM.
