"Dirty old man" - quite an interesting phrase, especially used in a Thailand themed forum, where it seems that 20-40 year age-gaps are the norm.  It seems to really stem from a kind of disgust reaction to an elderly gentleman being attracted to a young woman.  I wonder what it is that makes people react in this way.  I'm not saying I necessarily agree that a 60 something man should be pursuing a 20 year old woman, but it's quite interesting that "dirty" comes into it.

 

Anyone below say 50 might be ok to lust after a 20 year old?  But after that they become dirty?

 

Another time we use "dirty" is to describe a promiscuous women.  Someone might call her a "dirty sl*t".  I think the sort of disgust response there comes from the fact that a promiscuous woman is generally bad for society, or at least a social group, for various reasons.  I wonder if there is some reason that a man who is too old trying to pick up a much younger women gets the same response?  Perhaps we have some sort of group-think subconscious judgment where we look at a couple and judge their compatibility.  We see the physical appearance of the old man and we subconsciously think that he is not going to be able to provide for her and he is not young, healthy and virile, so we object to the pairing.

 

Another interesting thing, is that one commenter mentioned "base desires" or something.  I wonder if they are aware that the reason they think and old man is "dirty" for wanting to be with a much younger woman might itself be a "base" reaction?  We could suggest that they should engage their brain and overcome this base reaction and logic it out as to whether there is anything actually technically "wrong" with a 60 year old man having a relationship with a 20 year old woman.  A 20 year old woman might have a relationship with a 20 something man, it might last six months to a year and it might end badly or amicably.  A 20 year old woman might also have a relationship with a 60 year old man that could last six months to a year which might end badly or amicably (you could argue the age of the man might increase the chance of an amicable end).  So where is the actual harm in the 60 year old and 20 year old fling?  Apart from this basic kind of repulsion or disgust at the idea of a 20 year old having sex with a 60 year old?  I can't help feeling all answers would be rationalisations based on "it feels wrong" or "it's just gross".

 

(It's important to note here that when we talk about desire, we are talking about subconscious judgements, so these are things that we are not consciously aware of.  Think basic survival cave man type living.)

First, the drive to dally with a female is 100% about gene propagation, even if we don't think of that. We think someone is sexy or desirable BECAUSE that will motivate us to spread our genes. Second, there are women here who actually like the man they are with. Some of the men are young, some old. Granted a man in good shape is a lot more appealing, but while the primary draw for men is physical attraction, the primary drive for women is security. I might not understand when I see a young Thai woman with a fat old foreigner, but it is entirely possible she really is smitten with him. Not up to me to say one way or the other. I do think---personal opinion here---that if an older gent is intent on dallying with young women, he should take some pride of ownership in his body, hit the gym, lose the belly, dress nicely, and be properly groomed. That might increase his chance of being with a woman who really is attracted to him.

 

Third, for women who dally without being attracted to the partner, that is up to her. She engages in a personal calculus where she weighs the gain (money, perhaps friendship) against the cost (if she is not attracted to him). The fact she does it gives the answer to her personal calculus. The man benefits because he exercises the biological imperative, and the woman benefits because she gets something she needs. So long as they are consenting adults, no harm done.

 

What makes or doesn't make a "man" is not up to you or me to decide. We merely have opinions. Why is someone less of a man because he still has desires and exercises those desires? There is no rule book, and when we're dead, not a damn thing matters. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust and all that. If some guy wants to dally with beautiful young women half his age, none of my business. I make decisions for me, not anyone else.

I am a man, that's why in my 60's I do not wish to have sexual relations with females 40 years younger. Being a man is restraining yourself from unnatural acts. You would expect that a man of 60's or older has finally managed to control themselves. If you don't, that is a fairly good definition of a "dirty old man". I don't enjoy having sexual relations which are obviously one sided. A lot of these men use sexual aids too. When I ask myself, is this female sexually attracted to me and the answer is no, I won't go there. All you need is a mirror.

I think a lot in this world happens because of conditioning. Many people do what they do because that is the way to do things. Old man with young girl: Oh no! Really? Why? I know in some countries, probably many countries, old guy and young girl relations don't happen very often. But it seems when the guy is rich and famous, and maybe a rock star, then he might get away with this. Luckily in Thailand the situation is different. Here are a lot more not so young guys with young girls. And lots of people accept this.

Sometimes I try to understand but in general I don't know what's going on in the head of young (let's say 20 to make sure there is no misunderstanding) girls. First of all they don't all think the same. If i.e. 90% of those girls don't like old guys that doesn't mean 10% like some old guys. And there are many young girls. So if i.e. 1 out of 100 thinks she wants to spend time with me then that is fine with me.

Apart from hourly sessions in the nightlife I never paid for a girl - at least not directly. But often it's not so easy to judge how much money is involved. In general it probably does not hurt if a guy has a nice apartment, maybe a nice car, when he visits fancy restaurants, etc. Now is a young girl together with such a guy because of his money? Or does she do it because she is comfortable with an experienced sophisticated successful guy? I don't try to guess which one it is and I am pretty sure often the girls don't really know.

 

So maybe we can agree that I won't ask your daughter for a date. But if her friend likes to see me then that should be up to that girl. And it's up to her if she likes my look or my bike or my favorite coffee shop or whatever.

I was 73.  She was 32.  She was gorgeous. I looked average.  She said I seemed to have a good heart.  Today I’m 81. She just turned 40.  I’ve lost 40 pounds. She’s lost 15.    We’re still together, planning on buying a home.  No one has called me a dirty old man.

Best Thai women are from Nakhon Phanom and the northernest regions within close borders to Laos. Best looks and best attitude. Other than that, Chiang Rai works well if you fancy a trek all the way up north.

 

After that the best girls can be found in Hanoi, Vietnam. They're even prettier than your average Thai issan female but the real pretty ones are "reserved" for the Chinese overlords.

That "problem" happens much earlier. When I arrived in Thailand I was in my 30th and I had a gf in her late teens. No tattoos, no silicone, just a pretty young girl.

I agree. Tell me another country that has a higher percentage of beauty. Some countries have a few that are outstanding. But, I can stand on a street corner in Bangkok and every 25 seconds one walks by that is stunning. No other city in the world offers that. NYC and many others included. 

 

Also, the fact that many Thai women are so comfortable with their own femininity makes them infinitely more appealing. I see gorgeous women in the West, but they handle themselves like men and are scared to death of their femininity. That downgrades their beauty to a significant degree. 

 

When I ask where they are from, many say Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, Chaiyaphum, Buriram. Occasionally Sisiket or Surin. Something in the water?

How many countries have you been to? Every country has huge numbers of beauties. And when it comes to Thai girls, most Thai men would say the most beautiful ones come from the north or Bangkok, not Isaan, though I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

40-50. And NONE of them had the concentration (as a percent of the population) of beauties Thailand does. None came even close. 

 

If you can, name just one. 

 

Of course I like dark skinned women, and consider very white to be highly over rated. That helps. But even many of the light skinned women here are stunning.
