A young woman who put herself through college on the back of working as a beer Singh girl received lots of attention on Facebook, reported Sanook.

 

Kratai (rabbit) showed pictures of herself in working attire alongside huge bundles of banknotes and jars of coins. 

 

She earned all this in her beer promotion job, she said, and didn't have to rely on her parents for a single baht.

 

She posted "Farewell to this job" now that she had graduated with a bachelor's degree.

 

She said she had not gone without phone, cosmetics, clothes or electrical items for the home - and she had had her teeth done.

 

And she had persevered despite other people looking down on her for her choice of job saying she should find a better one.

 

To this she said:

 

"Beer girls never killed anyone or broke the law. We love our job selling beer".

 

The story comes as something of a refreshing change after so many in the media jumping on the bandwagon blaming alcohol for everything, notes ASEAN NOW.

I dont know if she should be promoted as role model. 

The beer girls at my local Thai place are all stunning, and I enjoy chatting with them when they come to refill my glass. 

 

They haven't been working there for a while though due to COVID. 

 

Some of them are students and some of the others have full time jobs. Most have boyfriends unfortunately. ????

At first i thought it was a typo "put herself trough college laying on her back" but than i put my reading glasses on and rad it again.. Ah, i see now...

What happend with innocent until proven guilt? And if single and go with a customer? So what, it happens to everyone everywhere no matter what country you are in. 

 

And in my younger days, I did not even need to pay, since their #1 took care of them with monthly transfers if not more.

I think it is interesting that she shows all those bundles of money and she writes she use the money she made while she studies. When did you take these pictures? Once a month, and then she spend that money? Or did she make double the amount and the pictures are only from the leftover after doing that job and living from the money for years?

Depending on what she studied, she could make loads more money and not having to talk to drunks all the time but do some more challenging work.

Whole drawers stuffed with bundles of 1,000-baht bills. And yet she paid for her bachelor's degree, had her teeth done, didn't skimp on cosmetics/electronics and fashion.

 

Promoting beer must be very, very lucrative.

One of my woman's university friends worked as a 'beer girl' in the evenings.

Her parents gave her 30K/month (not enough), she earned another 50k/month.

Very pretty girl, seemed like a lot of money for just 'tips'.

 

I was out having dinner with my family, (woman, daughter 22, son 9).

We were served by a very pretty girl in a beer dress (Leo).

I was looking at the girl and my daughter said, "Dad, you want her phone number"

And before I could speak she turned to the girl and said in Thai, "My dad wants your phone number?"

Beer girl took my kids phone, and typed her phone number into it. 

My misses said, "Too expensive for you!"

 

Amazing Thailand.

her graduate degree job would not pay as much as her beer job

same with any type of business where you have to interact with a woman in Thailand - they have loans and credit cards to pay off

We had these girls at the food court close to our house.

 

They were pushy, brought more jugs of beer when they had been told very clearly NOT to bring more. One took a liking to my Thai son who was sitting with his wife and 3 daughters. She insisted on passing the palms of her hands all over his face and kissing him. He told her to stop and her loud overt beer girl buddy intervened and insisted that her buddy be given a big tip to stop.

 

Son paid the bill and left quickly, no tip. Never been back to that venue or any places with these girls. 

 

Other customers complained about similar incidents. Owner eventually stopped all the beer companies from having beer girls at that venue.

Oddly enough, I saw several of them serving tables outside a local beer shop a month or two back.
