Pattaya set to be "hospitel town" - major hotels sign up to host people sick with Covid-19

Several major hotels in Pattaya have signed up to return to "hospitel" status after a surge of cases of Covid-19 in Chonburi and the rest of Thailand.

The move will mean that up to 8,000 Covid patients will soon be housed in hotels in the eastern seaboard resort.

Chief of the area hoteliers' association Phisut Sae-khu told INN that a meeting between hoteliers and the health authority had been held in which plans to reintroduce 5,000 to 8,000 beds for Covid patients were made.

Hotels that previously offered so-called "hospitel" accommodation are returning to that business.

So far four have said they will do this with about ten in total needed.

They are the Brighton Grand Hotel that will offer 800 beds, Bay Beach, 700, Asia Hotel, 500 and Crystal Palace, 500.

Health insurance plans that meet the long stay visa requirements

If you don't have tourists, take "patients".

Nice business model.

Slightly off topic but can we believe Thailand's numbers when Australia's new cases reported today as over 116,000 , or a severe lack of real testing just asking ?

Well, provide bedside masseuse in Nurse costume, you would see scores of tourists with their covid positive report!!

Not exactly a surprise - if they cannot get tourist business, they may as well get what business they can, even if its hospital patients. Just got to hope you don't book their hotel for your holiday

Beats having to close down; which was the only other option for many before Thailand opened up to tourists.

I'm wondering how long an Omicron person would have to stay in hotel? Who decides you can leave?

116K in Australia? despite all their strict measures and lockdowns and their paranoia for international arrivals ????

looks like the virus doesn't care and found mysterious ways to spread

The only model worth a dime at the moment.

Hope they have separate accommodation for the girlies to be kept safe at night..

Some in the past have shown a penchant for wandering off and forgetting which was their bed.

What they could do is have a 'SHA restaurant' downstairs serving beer, when you get infected just pop up the stair for a couple of weeks.

With 8000 rooms to fill, not sure if home isolation is a go in Pattaya now.

It already has been for a long time

Who foots the bill at these quarantine hotels? I've seen the Brighton Grand Hotel everyday since the foundations were poured. My condo is on the 11th floor in Naklua 25 overlooking the now hospital hotel. Believe me, it's absolutely beautiful with great reports in it's comments section.

How will they keep this going when omicrom is showing less syptoms over shorter time in EU/UK

Until the High Season ends.

Times are tough, you know.

It happened today:

My GF and my son were positive on an ATK test yesterday (contact persons), today they had to show up for a PCR. No symptoms at all.

Positive again and immedeately they were transfered to such a hospitel. They were told they'd have to stay there for at least 5 days.

After that another "medical examination" would be done and after that, they might be sent home to quarantaine for antoher five (or 10, I don't remember) days.

GF = Thai, son is Thai and German citizen)

Who takes care of you?

Will the hotels reveal the status to people wanting to stay there and are unaware of the sick people there?

Bad luck. You will have to do your own cooking, cleaning and laundry. Have you considered getting a maid in? Some have their own uniforms.
