Brit 'tourist' murdered by scythe in Kanchanaburi - friend in hospital - loud music blamed

The quick emergence of alleged mental health issues could indicate that the perpetrator maybe has "connections" and will be used to justify a lenient sentence if necessary

I do not think so. Police normaly let people with mental health problems run around freely.

Until some yaba addict go crazy and start violence.

Then they act.

Often too late then.

  • Well, RIP, but loud music at night lead me to pay my regular subsidy to local police, fortunately it works. Otherwise it could have ended up with bloodshed as well.    Some people just don't

  • I can easily picture this. Voices raised. Offence given. Thai guy goes away, comes back with scythe. Hacks at neck from behind with no warning. My advice: don't be an <deleted> in the first

Hey, this one has gone international, picked up by Reuters.

'Local media said the suspect had a history of mental health issues' they said.

Let's be clear  and. I have lived in the 'sticks". Thaisplaybtheir music loud and at all times and hell breaks loose if a farang complains. ..loss of face by agreeing to stop the dreadful dirge of Thai music .. You just have to accept it or move away

I don't think anyone asks to be stabbed to death, well maybe a Japanese student who just received a B- in a math exam.  But if you play silly games , you win silly prizes.

There you go condoning it. If someone plays loud music, you go over there and yell at them and phone the cops. You think the murderer is some tough guy but his life is also destroyed now. Smart move.

That depends where and with whom you are hanging out - the ’second class citizen’ thing is perhaps an opinion you have interpreted from the way Thai’s treat you.. why is that ????

I’ve never experienced such here....  Thai’s are generally indifferent to everyone else around them & more often than not as a foreigner we’ll be treated more favourably (thats my experience at least).

Thai's would be the target of attack or assault in the same situation. But usually a ‘warning comes first’...  such examples are rife in the Thai news.

‘these practices’ ??? you are making stuff up.... Thai’s don’t care about us (foreigners) any more or less than anyone else around them. IF we or Thai’s behave poorly we will be judged and potentially dealt with accordingly, just as Thai’s judge other Thai’s.

Just don’t run your mouth and act like a tool. The same rules apply to us as Thai’s.....

Agree 100% Thais are no more racist than any other humans. Foreigners who might believe that likely <deleted> off a Thai. I have dozen of Thais friends and two foreigners I have known for years who behave.

Good I hope Covid insurance and hospital games also are reported by international media.

I just happened to look at one of the victims Facebook profile doesn’t  paint a pretty picture..

way too many parties and if you understand disabilities / mental health conditions.

you are asking for big problems honestly..

I honestly feel bad for the Thai person and the other person who was on holiday.?

Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them.

I don't have the Thai person medical records or history but this should give you an idea what's happened then also add  Cerebral Palsy and other mantel health conditions why else do you think there was so much damage done in a short space of time ..

Thais can make loud music, foreigners not. But 3am is indeed no time to have a party with a lot of noise.. But we don't know how often in the neighbourhood there was noise at night so it could be a revenge..

Heck, who knows what preceded the incident. Wasn't the young Thai guy friendly with the farangs and had been drinking with them other times.... perhaps they wouldn't share their beers that night.....

the drugs and alcohol plus the partying into the wee hours in the morning is a good cocktail for disaster .. i could say more but i would likely get banned for it .. anyway three lives have been destroyed..

There is something quite perverse about categorising an individual by random photos from their Facebook account, without any form of context to them, not knowing them personally, and whilst they are lying critically injured in hospital.   I note that you don't post the many photos of him enjoying pleasant meals with his friends, or beach side visits with his girlfriend (I'm friends with some of his friends and hence know).   You write you could say more, but anything you do say is only conjecture and imagination.

I guess foreigners associate with these thai males out in the sticks. But not even in places like Bangkok or Pattaya. For good reason

Oh the irony - now it's the farang playing loud music until 3 am

What more is there to say here...

Guys drinking with music, 3am....

Neighbour has enough attacks the group.

This story has been repeated numerous times in Thailand, it usually ends up with gun-shots.

------

The guys drinking were certainly inconsiderate of those around them, but no one deserved to die or to be on the wrong end of a grievous attack.

And the problem with too much to drink is losing common sense and inability to think clearly.

Not only this which is today’s Times, but yesterday’s Sunday Times has the major leading article in World section of their reporter’s description of being carted off for quarantine in a Phuket hospitel. Thailand getting increasing poor press coverage of the treatment of tourists

If there was loud music I wonder if the wife of murdered man and/or girlfriend of injured man told them to stop, now! People want to sleep, go to work in morning... (I've been told once or twice and did as I was told).

Or perhaps the two victims are the type to disregard even their spouses advice/orders?

I know some farangs would tell their wife/gf to shut the fruck up or perhaps fruck off beech and continue to annoy others.

Obviously in this case I have no idea...

Let's not rush to judgement now.  Any mention of what music the farang were playing?  It could have been The Eagles, which would turn this into a case of justifiable homicide.

New mandate, 50,000 US dollars in Sickle insurance before entering Thailand.

I cannot count how many times I have been with locals at all hours of the night with loud music playing and drunken souls everywhere.

That's the locals. These were Foreigners. Different rules. The Noise pollution law is  23:00, 11pm in residential areas.

The idiotic Brit tourist should have known better than to play loud music at 3 am,

and antagonise a lower-class Thai male on top of that.

He joins an ever-growing line of farangs hacked/slashed to death by a Thai male,

over something trivial that quickly escalated to gargantuan proportions.

Where are you getting your information from...

This was not an antagonism or an argument that escalated via confrontation into violence and then and unfortunately murder.

Two guys were sat drinking beer, neighbours (nearby residents) have reported they couldn’t hear anything.

A mentally deranged guy who should have been in supervised care attacked them without warning.

THAIS suffering thru loud music from FARANGS? Now that's a switch!... Of course farang just have to grin and bear the dreadful loud Thai music... Looks like Thais react way more violently..

These are your speculations. There was not any official information on the mental health status of the murderer.

I'd rather be here than London. 30 years in Thailand and I've neve once been in danger. Not once. I guess it depends on the person. Some people ask for trouble. And they find it.

Absolute nonsense.  In 30 years you never traveled on a Thai road?
