Annoying foreign beggar raking in 2-3,000 baht a day in Chatuchak, Bangkok

An annoying foreign beggar is making up to 3,000 baht EVERY DAY, according to a motorcycle taxi rider who sees her daily in the area near Mor Chit BTS in Chatuchak, Bangkok.

If Thais don't pay up they are bullied in English.

INN reporters went to investigate after much comment on a social media post.

The taxi guy said that the woman turns up every day between 4 and 5 pm selling trinkets but is really after "donations".

Those who hand over a meager 5-10 baht get an earful.

But if you don't give anything she really lets rip claiming that she has nothing.

He reckoned that she has a nice place - maybe even a condo - in Lat Prao and makes 2,000 baht to 3,000 baht a day scamming people.

Kannaphat - a student - told the media that he was with a fellow lady student on their way home when they encountered the woman in a long green dress.

She said in English: "You are poor" after he said he didn't have any money on him.

His companion handed over 10 baht and the beggar was effusive saying:

"You are beautiful - you are an angel".

He was confused by her English and all she would say by way of explanation for her begging was that she needed a toothbrush.

A motorcycle taxi rider said to the pair: "You're being conned, she's here every day".

As the students walked off she was still at it.

Kannaphat said: "Foreigners aren't normally disrespectful or engage in bullying of other people".

ASEAN NOW suggests that Kannaphat needs to travel a bit more.

Begging scammers such as this exist in many countries of the world.

Years ago I lived in RamKhamhaeng near Soi 29 which is the location of a San Saeb boat pier. There was a Thai guy without legs who would drag himself along the length of the Soi from Ram Road all the way to the pier and back every day...getting food handouts from the vendors and whatever cash people would toss onto his cardboard box flattened, which is what he used to drag himself along the pavement.  Then one day a foreign begpacker shows up begging for cash along Soi 29. Normally I would mind my own business but I had to give it to him....competing for donations with a guy with no legs who drags himself in the hot sun on a  piece of cardboard all day to survive. I made such a fuss that he finally took off tail between his legs never to be seen again.

When it's a murder or car accident their nationality is always given, often in the headline. Where is this women from exactly?

How about the fat legged guy who scammed funds in Bangkok to squander in Pattaya? And Pattaya had its own Farang beggars for a time.

It's like the Sherlock Holmes story  "The man with the twisted lip" ,

where a man with a good job in the city , found he could earn more

money ,dressing up as a beggar, and begging on the street.

there's two issues to this story ..... the motorbike taxi guy is jealous because he's not getting that much....    and the lady should be a bit more respectful to donators and shut her trap to those who don't.

Thais are really such a generous lot. Truly. They know. It's just not apparent to us. It's their country and people!

I don't see her anymore but there was a tiny woman with heavy braces on both legs. Usually she had someone helping her traveling together but sometimes not. I used to see her go to work alighting at Petchburi and struggling to get on the escalator. I'd make it a point not to complain about anything the days I saw her. God bless her and may she be able to run between the clouds in heaven forever.

Hey Buddy, you gotta widen your horizon to see or better, Read.

https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2019/07/11/begpacking-western-young-people-thailand-begging-thai-police-man/

. The phenomenon of begpacking, where western foreigners from wealthy countries, come to Thailand and expect Thai people to pay for their holidays is both ignorance and in nearly all cases, illegal. Some of the scams involve fraud.

Rightly so. He's essentially living rough outside and hand to mouth. Has expenses.

It's like when foreign organization make some save the whores NGO. There are tens of thousands of people who didn't take that road and dirt poor AND a far better gamble to assist.

You are right but some folks here have mental block as they think that everyone coming from falangland is rich and every poor is from SEA....

"foreign" what does that mean? Other than she spoke some English there seems to be no indication of anything in the piece other than "Not Thai" or "not one of us".

Shock surprise a Cambodian speaks English? Or or we saying white woman is using a con? Confused to say the least.

There's much to be learned from the article. I'll be changing locations every day to keep the taxi guys from messing with my scams ????

First thing, when a 'Thai looking' person speaks English to me, is thinking whether they are actually Cambodian or Laotian, as most Thais I meet cannot string a sentence in English together. Exceptions are some academics, Thais that lived 6+ months abroad, or girls, ahem... who's business it is to talk to foreigners.

What kind of pics are these? Is the beggar the one with the green plastic bag, or the one in the light-blue shirt, who, thanks to the amateurish pics, one can hardly see?

I was hit up by a singing blind man and his wife once.

They got into a tuktuk at the end of the road.

He jumped in the driver's seat, big u-turn and off he drove.

There is a Thai guy in the local market every day, aged late 50's - 60's

He sits outside the same shop on the steps and asks for money.

He appears to be fully limbed and not mentally incapacitated in any way.

He starts early morning and is gone by lunch time.

One day I arrived late to the market and realised I was walking behind him from where he usually sat, I followed him around the corner a short distance where he got in his Fortuna and drove off.

Her green kilt should be a clue......^????

Pattaya Tai, Entrance to TukCom.

A cool looking Thai guy (looks like a musician) hangs out every day on the steps.

I feel for the muso's, lost their jobs when the bars shut down.

Also, a Thai girl (late 20's early 30's) has appeared, begging everyday.

I wish the begging foreigners would go back to their countries, it really ticks me off.

Hundreds of pitiful looking beggars (mostly imported Cambodians) are deployed all over the city every morning by the BMA & Police diverting well intentioned donations into the mafias pockets. Do the math. It's big business.

A legitimate poor person will usually get chased off.

It can be a good business. Ive seen some movies about "beggars", collecting money in this way. Paying of just fine.

I have no problem if i see a someone with no legs, begging to get around and even collecting maybe 3000 baht.

It is possible. Some make it their daily job, it can be very profitabel, as i saw on USA movie.

In Philippines, once i had situation with kids, saying they were hungry, but asking for money to buy.

I was with, at that time she was , a good woman and she said, no it is  a scam. Dont give money but buy then some food.

There are kids gangs led by adults to roam for money. Ok to test, i bought food and gave it to them, amazingly (NOT) they were not interested. OK there you go with your good intentions. It was what she said.

But said in last line of article, it is everywhere and there are scams even more horrible. So be aware.
