A recent poll by the respected independent Levada Center found that 82% of Russians remain concerned by the military campaign in Ukraine. The vast majority of them – 47% – are worried about the deaths of civilians and Russian soldiers in the war, along with the devastation and suffering. Only 6% of those concerned by the war said they were bothered by the alleged presence of “Nazis” and “fascists” in Ukraine.

Putin's Victory day speech is due at 12 noon Moscow time, I make that around 4pm in Thailand. Lets see what lies he sprouts.

This is what the dictator said yesterday:

‘As in 1945, Victory Will Be Ours’: Vladimir Putin on World War II Anniversary

Putin, who invaded Ukraine in February, said that soldiers are fighting to free their native land from “Nazi filth".

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday, 8 May, that “as in 1945, victory will be ours” while he sent congratulations to former Soviet nations marking the 77th anniversary of the Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War II.

Putin, who launched a 'military operation' in Ukraine in February 2022, said that even today, their soldiers are fighting to free their native land from “Nazi filth” and said that it is their duty to prevent the Nazi from “rearing its head” once more, reported AFP.

Corrected for him:

"As in 1945, the Ukrainians are at the fore front of resisting the Nazi invaders, and even today, their soldiers are fighting to free their native land from Nazi filth (with the help of the Western democracies)”.

History does repeat.

Some quotes from Putin's speech.  Didn't see much in the way of "victory."  But the propaganda dished out should please the Putin sympathizers on this thread.  Too much misinformation to even include here, but you guys can read for yourself.

Rather than about full and total victory over Ukraine, Putin is now talking about "fighting for the motherland in Donbass".

Talk about a slight change of objectives !

soon the Ruzzian media will announce the victorious retreat of Ruzzian forces from Ukraine.

By Fergal MacErlean • 09 May 2022 • 10:42

Vladimir Putin has had his victory parade sabotaged with a message telling Russians they had the “blood of thousands of Ukrainians” on their hands.

He is conflating a heroic (at least early in the war) defence of Russia against the Germans with the barbarity of Russia today, more reminiscent of Russia's actions in Germany at the end of the war.

A number of cities, including Moscow cancelled military flyovers during their parades, giving bad weather as the reason, despite it being not that bad.  Maybe they thought something would happen to the aircraft?  This seems to be a continuation of their fears, as, since the start of the war, Russian tank turrets have spent more time in the air over Ukraine than its airforce  has.

UK Ministry of Defense after your comrades speech:

"President Putin seeks to bring the past to the present and revive the horrors and darkness of war."

Ben Wallace: Russia 'mirroring' WW2 fascism in Ukraine invasion

Speaking as Russia staged a military parade marking its defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two, he accused Russian generals of hijacking their "forebears' proud history".

Mr Wallace said the generals must face war crimes trials.

The defence secretary said there "can be no victory day, only dishonour".
