Hua Hin Police have announced a ‘no gift policy’ in a bid to boost transparency and prevent potential conflicts of interest.

The announcement, made in Thai and English and posted on the Hua Hin Police Station Facebook page, is dated February 9th 2022 and is signed by Police colonel Hongprom Wisithchanachai, Superintendent Hua Hin Police Station.

The ‘no gift policy’ is in line with Thailand’s National Reform Plan on Anti-Corruption and Misconduct which states government and public sector officials should not accept any form of gifts while performing their duties.

The announcement reads:
“…We would like to announce the intention of Superintendent Hua Hin Police Station and all police officers to not accept any kind of gifts while performing duties”.

Firstly, another April Fools Day joke surely?

Secondly, it is indicative of how culturally ingrained graft and corruption is that RTP need to post a public notice stating that "no gifts" accepted.

Please do hand directly to officer, place it on the ground and walk away perhaps, that way it becomes "lost property" for collection

Brown envelops yes, anything in fancy paper wrapping, not accepted.

But as soon as they go off-duty the entire RTP would like to thank you in advance for the continuation of donations

If this No Gift policy spread through out Thailand I would think I was on another planet or haven't woke up yet. This could be the start of something new, lets hope it spreads.

So, no bribes between 08.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 17.00. But it does not say anything of collecting during lunch hour.

This has to be an 'April Fools ' joke, yes?

I recall that the government announced last year that April Fools jokes are banned. They shall be considered a violation of Computer Crimes Act about fake news and could land you in jail.

Today is the date where one shall be extremely careful not believing all what's written in the news...:whistling:

They will set up a "special tent" at each corner of the road and say it is a "merrit room".

Mind you he said

Bold and Italics mine.

So the intention is there, but may not convert to reality, so they are off the hook.  No need to worry the brown envelopes, free lunches, loaner vehicles and watches all allowed

Make sure the White Envelopes are Brown Envelopes.

This will,, of course, apply to the local Immigration Police offices.........????
