Best Songkran EVER (So Far)

Featured Replies

Monday & Tuesday, first two days of Songkran, I have been all over Jomtien & Pattaya. Not one bucket of nasty water anywhere to be seen. Plenty of people enjoying themselves on the beach, in restaurants, and the such. The only fly in the ointment so far was a traffic "assist" from the BiB. Coming down from Lake Mapbrachan, hitting the crossroad where a left turn takes you to the former Elephant Village, they were about 15 strong. No checking for impaired drivers, they were just directing traffic, so of course it was backed up about a kilometer in all directions. So, all in all it's been great - so far.

What about last year and the year before?

The moment you let your guard down they will get you. Please report back after the 20th.

Yeah, as Songkran starts tomorrow, it must be.

I think many started from last Saturday and running through to next Sunday.

Doesn´t matter. Songkran starts at the 13th.

Everything I have read said the 13th thru the 19th.

I bet tonight you will start seeing more activity.

Hope it is quiet for all who want that, I left anyway until the 20th bet the place is a zoo even if they don't have water play time.

Pattaya has always started early and finished late.

Report from AseanNow says 11 April start, so you didn't read everything.

One good thing was the mrs & I had to drive to Pattaya-BKK up and back last night and all the tolls are free.  A couple hundred baht saved, now I can invest that 300b into some real cash, woo hoo. 555

Huh?  I walk every day in Pattaya, not a sign of any crowds at all!  I didn't even realise that Songran had started in town ????

No water tossers up here as yet but the locals may make up for it tomorrow.  I don't think i need to go out tomorrow to see if tossers abound.  Maybe they will just toss over each other.

On my calendar it says 13 14 and 15 and that is 3 days too many.

Pattaya Beach Road quite busy today, as were the beach chair operators. I would expect it to pick up even more from tomorrow and through to the end of the weekend. Nice boost for local businesses.

Doesn´t matter what Pattaya do. Songkran still starts the 13th.

I drove down Sukhumvit yesterday afternoon, very crowded and a lot of BKK plates on display, accompanied by their usual aggressive driving style.... time to go cabin lockdown?

Not from what I witnessed today on my daily bike ride......lots of day boozing--or MORE so

Check the red days in the calendar. Everything else is people that are extending the holiday by themselves. That is just because of the reason they never grow up, and never can wait for something.

That intersection I mentioned in the initial post is now (10:00 am 13 Apr) armed to the teeth with BiB. They're not "hepping" traffic so it's flowing nicely.

With out wishing to be a damp squid I think businesses will make more money with out the water throwing as people will be more prepared to go out knowing they are not going to get dowsed with water.

Not a damp squid, merely a realist.
