How then he got infected by monkeypox if he had been overstaying in thailand?

  • I am sure this is exactly what the 90 day reporting system was designed for and will allow for his immediate capture and prove it's worth!????

  • That's the question, also raised elsewhere. It suggests that whilst he may be the first officially confirmed case he must have contracted it from someone .  If that is proved to be the case then Phuke

It's selfish people like this guy that cause the disease to spread.

Will Thailand begin to shutdown the airports again when Monkeypox spread further in Thailand?

I hope the authorities ban him from coming to Thailand for x years to teach him a lesson.

Sadly, the world is full of these selfish people.

They have no concern about other people's health and welfare.

What, this guy was on overstay, and he has disappeared?

Why was he not kept in custody? Since my family doctor just told me today that this is a gay disease,

maybe the gay population in Thailand should be told to be on the lookout for this fellow.

Just saying.

They better get Dustin Hoffman here real quick before they have to bomb Phuket to contain it.

This is not a gay disease, anybody can catch it. Please stop stigmatizing the LBGT.

Rubbish, just anybody can not catch it unlike covid. You have to come into contact with somebody who has it to start with as has already been explained in this thread.

More likely with a male (or multiple males) and doesn't want to admit it, considering the statistics in countries with thousands of cases whereas only a handful of those are female

It is quoted he had sex with Females.

Of course he will report his location along with the rest of us law abiding aliens. 555. Time to review this 90 day folly.

Well if something is going to spread rapidly,it will be in Phuket and Pattaya.
secondly, it just goes to show you how well the 90 day reporting system works if he has been here on overstay for a year. Good guys do the right thing, bad guys don’t.
pits about time the government had a good look at the 90 day reporting system. Use that for people who don’t hold annual visas like retirement visa Non O. Seems ridiculous that you have a visa to live in the country for a year but need to report every 90 days.  It should be if granted the retirement visa you need to report any change of address during that visas validity.

But @Caldera  stated this "More likely with a male (or multiple males) and doesn't want to admit it"  which is within the realms of probability.

Frankly the entire island is potentially at risk whilst contacts of the Nigerian are currently unknown. and what about those 70,000 Indians claimed to have visited by TAT ?

Watching this mornings news it appears the Nigerian man in question has been in the country since last year.  If so then where did he pick up the infection, enquiring minds want to know.

The person that he had sex with should be worried. Its possible he either caught it from them, or infected them. If so, and it was a sex worker, there will likely be more cases coming to light soon.

Two of his "friends'' have been contacted and are now in 14 day quarantine

Really.  So those 2 leads to another 2 etc etc. but hopefully not. But who did he catch it from in the 1st place in Phuket ?

I did, he had sex with someone, so when exactly, 2 to 3 weeks ago is not much to go on now is it, and without saying where or with whom....and who are we to believe since he fled, as he was on an overstay, and avoiding treatment. Many ways to get off of the Island without getting caught.

Is he selfish ? or the sex worker that had un-protected sex with him ?

Perhaps at the time neither he, nor the sex worker were showing any symptoms. No excuse for unprotected sex of course but just a simple "what if" explanation.

I'm sure those Luxury BMW smart cars will track him down and prove they are not a waste of millions of Baht.  *sarcasm mode off*

If he is on overstay from last year, there must be at least one other person in Thailand or has visited Thailand as the first recorded case in the world was in April this year.

Thailands first case of monkeypox, a Nigerian man on overstay, believed to have fled to Cambodia by swimming across Sa Kaeo river

Sa Kaeo, Thailand-According to multiple other Thai media and law enforcement sources, a foreign man identified as Thailand’s first case of monkeypox has fled to Cambodia through natural channels illegally.

The 27-year-old-man from Nigeria had been traced to Sa Kaeo, on the Cambodia border, from his mobile phone signal according to Anutin Charnvirakul, Public Health Minister, who revealed the information late last night, July 22, at the National Assembly in Bangkok.

The patient had fled Phuket following his positive confirmation of monkeypox from a Phuket Hospital.

The commonwealth games start next week in the UK and Nigeria is part of the commonwealth so maybe he is a member of their swimming team ?

Only the heads of the TAT officials will be spinning, so fast that next week they’ll be forecasting 300 million tourist arrivals next month.

.Done a runner from the hospital appointment for sure he had to make money selling drugs (my opinion)
