Samui Island, Surat Thani – A Russian woman on Samui Island tried to escape before she was caught after she was found to have overstayed her visa giving her permission to be in Thailand for over two years.

 

The Bo Phut Police reported yesterday (October 7th) that a team from the Samui Police, Bo Phut Police, and Surat Thani Immigration Officers launched a crackdown on overstaying foreigners in the area.

 

Police raided a rental house in the Maret sub-district following a tip from an anonymous concerned citizen.

I have no doub,t that many are in the same boat with lots of overstays.She tried  to escape but got caught,Pay the fine  then out of prison back to europe.Did she  think would get away with being a overstayer on a island

A stint in hell (aka the IDC) and deportation, assuming she has the money for ticket+fine, plus blacklisting for years..

Yet, people still overstay.

I know of one such dumba$$... probably two.

She may have attempted to do a runner, but seriously, 12 'fit' cops to arrest 1 woman overstayer ? No wonder there's mass gun murders and mass road deaths - cops in Thailand have priorities completely wrong - less they were all hoping for a payday

I think the Phuket Express needs to find an English-writer who actually understands English. The opening paragraph is appalling.

looks like the first guy called for backup in case there was trouble ...   it's a dangerous job,  he could have been hit with that coffee cup.

Quite agree a dozen BIB to sort out an immigration issue of 1 woman says it all.  Why is  it even news? Does it make Thailand safer because she as been found out?

A concern citizen.. i hope that this so called concern citizen will also report on real crimes that there's no shortage off in that area other than drop a dime on an arch criminal over-stayer..

Other than over staying she led a life for two years that didn't draw any attention her way. Probably make a good expat if she could of done the paperwork. Thailand is shooting itself in the foot. 

I wonder why someone dropped the dime on her more than it taking 12 cops to run her down.

yes .... it appears something's been handed to the boss cop by the looks,  obviously to appease the sticky situation and try for the ' misunderstanding '  option. 

meanwhile, thousands of firearms circulate in the country ... where should be police's priorities ?

 

but i don't know if this woman is a dangerous criminal ...

looks like she was until someone ratted her out.  Immigration didn't find her on their own.

So while the rest of us "do" the paperwork she is too lazy and so breaks the law - tough no sympathy

I was told about a Thai woman who lived near me that she reports all foreigners that she can , hopefully to collect a commission if they are found to be on overstay 

The story is somehow trying to make the Immigration Officers look like the heroes for cracking down on illegal immigration, like their hard work through deep investigations into the issue led to this arrest. At the same time, they mention (almost as a side note) that a "concerned citizen" tipped them off. So basically, they sat on their fat behinds taking bribes as usual until an upset Karen told them exactly where to go and they sent 12 of their men there for an arrest and a photo op.

Hey, in this case, it may have been a Ukrainian!

 

I'm glad the Thais handled this case so expertly and used a multi-Agency task force to sniff-out and chase-down this 59 year old threat.

Sounds like envy to me, wish you could do that but afraid to. Besides, she may well have not had the resources to do the paperwork plus she hasn't asked for your sympathy.

In America, there are probably 40 million people on "overstay".

Instead of simply cross referencing TM6 cards and visa records - even Windows 98 could manage that!

After posting I was thinking before if I should ????

They are sending a message to the island(s)......The key is to look for backpackers running into the woods, telling all landlords to check passports, and that the smart car is full and ready to roll!!!!

usually, overstayers will read about other overstayers.......I need to report everyone reading this!!!!

Our local smart car was last seen on the back of a transporter, after being parked on the side of the main road for a couple of days.

 

Cam belt I suspect.

Deport her; the Russians can put her to work repainting the Kerch bridge.

There may be more to this than just one overstayer.
