Bangla Road – A female beer vendor took off her clothes in protest after she was warned by officials for illegally selling alcohol on the Bangla Road in Patong.

The Patong Entertainment Business Association (PEBA) President Mr. Weerawit Kreuasombat told the Phuket Express. “Selling alcohol in foam boxes by vendors or pop-up style alcohol booths must be banned as this is illegal. The Bangla Road is a public road and one cannot sell alcohol on the road.”

Meanwhile, after the issue was brought up by Patong officials, there was a video of a woman who was selling beer in foam boxes on the Bangla Road. Relevant municipality officials warned the female vendor that selling alcohol without a license was illegal but she took off her clothes seemingly to protest the officials warning.

Public officials cite sale requires a license but police cite some "rule" that alcohol can't be sold 'on' the road?

Obviously 'on' meant next to a public road (I don't think seller was actually in the roadway but maybe a translation problem with Thai) but wouldn't that make bars selling alcohol next to a public road illegal aside from a license issue?

Maybe it would more helpful if police cite correct law and not some 'off the cuff' proverb.

Perhaps the Phuket Police Alcohol Patrol need to have a word with their colleagues on Sukhumvit and let them know that there is a law against selling alcohol by the road. But I guess in Bangkok it's okay because they set up proper unlicensed bars with tables and chairs and don't sell out of Styrofoam boxes but large insulated ones. And they give money to 'charity'.

Yes, but if the current government decided to do the same in response the scene would be horrific !

Which charity is that then?

The Thong Lor Police benevolent fund maybe?

There’s something that doesn’t add up - I can’t see any of the bars allowing anyone to sell beer (how much money can you make from a cool box of beers before you get a slap?)  in the middle of the street.

This has to be some promotion girl who has taken the initiative of standing behind a box at the entrance to a bar or something.

Anyway, what do I know or care?

Looks like some the police would prefer a male vendor ????

"municipality officials warned the female vendor that selling alcohol without a license was illegal but she took off her clothes seemingly to protest the officials warning".........

She wasn't protesting the officials warning. She was trying to offer them a "quickie" to leave her alone so she could continue selling.

She was taken to the station for further checks if she was the real deal.
