In Thai society there are myriads of intricate and very strict rules and regulations on how to behave and treat others. People are more or less forced/obligated to behave in a certain way and I think this causes lots of tension and frustration.

All that apparently does not apply to how to behave in traffic, it’s every man/woman for themselves. I have seen a bus driver help an old lady get on the bus, and not one minute later he deliberately cut off a woman and child on a motorbike, because he didn’t feel like waiting for two seconds. People in Mercedes Benz and expensive cars like that flash their lights and expect you to get out of their way. If you don’t, they will run you over and say it’s your own fault.

Besides, this guy is a police captain, he can pretty much do as he pleases. This is the country of ‘do you know who I am?’ after all. Privileged people here just expect to be able to get away with murder (quite literally).

Great question. They've got worse over the years and will continue to get worse.

He'll be looked after, even in an inactive post. He'll hold his head high, have some excuse and lie ready at hand. The fact he followed them and continued to harass them says it all.

Yes, it's a by product of a hierarchical social structure. 

The ego shines when everyone is either above or below you on the social ladder

This has been a longtime issue in Thailand as motorists tend to ignore the sirens while sleeping at the wheel or cops not giving priority to these ambulances when the officers are directing/blocking the traffic.

 

Although I am not a fan of the German mentality, I was surprised, and it took me a little while to understand why they were doing that, when, on the motorway during a slow down for any reasons, the cars were driving  or stopping on the emergency lanes, or as close as possible to the protection rails to leave the main road open, free from any vehicles: No sirens, no police/ambulance/firetruck in sight....just in case

 

That what should be done everywhere ( I must admit, the first time that happened, I engaged in the "free" lane ... I am sure I have been forgiven for my stupid move, out of ignorance )

I think it is aberrant behavior on the part of this one individual. My one ambulance ride with siren and lights was unhindered by similar A holes.
I have observed other instances of people moving aside in like cases.

My extended family lady boy is consumed with 'looking rich and important' / 'the family looking rich and impotant'. This extends as far as him making the plans for a massive Chinese style banquet when I die (I'm not sick).

 

He's even told my son what money he wants to organize and pay for the banquet.

 

Son has told him several times 'there's won't be any banquet and if theere's any 'event' he (son) will organize it'. Lady boy's pleading response 'but we must have a big banquet to show how rich the family is'.
