You amaze me OMF, firstly you're not Thai so how do you know what goes on in Thai politics, even Thais don't know. I can assure you that Thaksin is not the only bad man in Thai politics. If a senior Thai MP wasn't totally  bent he wouldn't be a Thai MP in the first place. So why single out Thaksin, balance your posts out with substantiated stories instead of singling out one person. If Thaksin had've been eligible to stand at the last election, the senators would've packed up and moved on. Whether you like it or not the bulk of Thai voters are down trodden people from the country who support the Kingdoms needs by working hard on their farms. Where as you live in your luxury Bangkok apartment without a vote, which you must find quite discomforting at times.

The Thaksin hate mob don't deal in facts just "lock up the runaway, thieving criminal" is about their level .

They also, conveniently, forget to mention that Mr T was a billionaire businessman before entering politics.

My partner, for one, will welcome him back if only for one reason: If he hadn't reformed health care funding she wouldn't have paid just 30 baht for a 7 day hospital stay which entailed 2 minor operations.

Whoever will you haters aim your vitriol at after the Thaksin circus leaves town?

Didn't some immigration officers just get "reassigned" for doing the same for a foreign celebrity?

Good that you changed your mind. It seems now many people realize that Thaksin coming back means a lot of headache.

Personally, I think that was obvious since at least 10 years. And many people in this forum criticized me for that standpoint.

What convinced you to change your mind?

Maybe some of his ex-red-shirt-friends will remind him that they are not his friends anymore.

After living in Thailand constantly since before Thaksin started in politics, and constantly reading the news and talking to people, I have probably a better understanding of Thai politics compared to farmers in red villages.

I agree that many Thai politicians are greedy and corrupt. What makes Thaksin stand out is his brazen "I am above the law" attitude. He doesn't even hide his corrupt deals and somehow he thinks he should get away with it. But he didn't get away with it, he should realize that after spending 15 years outside of Thailand.

He did some good things for Thailand and Thai people. And somehow he convinced the poor masses, that he, the rich billionaire, is their fried. 555

If those hard-working Thai people want a better government, then I suggest they should never vote for known corrupt politicians. Because how can they expect an honest government full of corrupt politicians which they voted for?

And no, I don't mind that I can't vote. After all, this is Thailand and Thai people should decide.

I assure you we understand that you hate Thaksin with all your heart, perhaps to the point that hating him is your main activity in life. You don't need to post more or less the same over and over again 20 times in each possible thread. You could perhaps make it your signature, and done with it?

Thanks for confirming to us that you listen to "your partner".

I always love it when farangs think they are well informed because they talked with Noi or Nit or maybe Somchai.

Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will fly back to Thailand on August 22nd, the same day that parliament will meet to select a new prime minister

The latest date.. I wonder why that one?

Why didn't he just fly back home with her after her latest visit?

You must have missed the picture in the news. He had a medical checkup at the eye doctor. His daughter visited him to take his hand to guide him to the doctor.

There are obviously no qualified eye doctors in Thailand, that is why he had to visit that doctor in a country far away.

It would be funny if it wouldn't be so sad.

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra told BBC Thai that he will return on August 22, and there will be no further postponement.

When asked whether he is confident that Pheu Thai PM Srettha Thavisin will garner enough votes to become the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin replied, "Of course," but added that his upcoming trip has nothing to do with the PM voting on the same day.

Thaksin said he had planned this trip before House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha announced the PM voting date. Initially, he intended to return on July 31, but as it was a holiday, he rescheduled it for August 10. However, he chose August 22 due to its more auspicious nature.

He further stated that he opted not to return on August 21 due to it being Paetongtarn Shinawatra's birthday. He expressed his desire not to be in jail on the same day as his daughter's birthday.

It just goes to show how much power Thaksin has, e.g. the country cannot govern without his party joining forces, suffice to say, there is his free get out of jail card.

What a clever man, he holds all the aces, yet most of you lot can't see in front of your noses, this is politics at it's best, it's all a game and those in it, make a lot of money, at least Thaksin gave to those who voted for him, as for the others, well, straight to their pockets IMO.

I welcome the man back and so do many battling Thai's.

A few months ago, the choice was either this clown or those clowns, i never imagined people could get behind MF party with such strength and numbers.

I didn’t believe that PT could just turn their back on such a response, and it is now perfectly clear the whole charade was to maneuver the party into a position where the sole purpose is to negotiate a return for Tony T. After listening to local folks, you could be mistaken into thinking that PT is a party for the people, it’s not.

I still think, economically he is way better than the current comedians, but I think with all this messing around, and the new obvious agenda, that the door will be left open for Anutin or Prawit to walk straight in and it’s all back to square one.

Pheu Thai has tossed their voters and the citizens of Thailand under the bus and eschewed all moral consideration to satisfy one man's self-centered needs.

It is shameful.

22 August.  Aligns nicely with the 22 previous times he's said he's returning.

His daughter says he is returning to Don Muang Airport.  But maybe be all a scam.  If I were Thaksin, I would return to the Isaan heartland at Khon Kaen or Udon Thani Airports, claiming an emergency landing, which would catch everybody off guard and he would be welcomed by his old red shirt comrades.

Yes, but there wouldn't be hundreds of reporters and cameras waiting for him.

Imagine he would get out of the plane, and nobody is there to publish it live. What a nightmare for the guy who needs attention 24/7.

Wow! Another exciting chapter in Thai politics Soap opera is about to begin!

If one person is responsible for the years of military dictatorship in Thailand, is this man. The bull<deleted> never ends in the land of smiles!

What a <deleted> joke this whole dog and pony show has become. Thaksin is being perversely disruptive, the <deleted> has no intention of setting foot in Thailand until he can do so with complete impunity meanwhile he will continue to stir <deleted>.

If justice were to be truly served he would be stoned by the public as he steps off the plane for subjecting us to decades of bull<deleted> and not sloping off quietly to squander his I'll gotten wealth.

wondering how much money he has to spend for "Claqueurs"????

I don't think he is bothered about not having a vote - after all, he has spent the last ten years arguing that anyone who doesn't follow his ideas shouldn't have one!

Admittedly in the last couple of months he has had a bit of a conversion - thunderclap and fall off his horse while en route to Damascus sort of thing; but don't worry, as soon as things settle down and the military are cemented back in charge he will be back on authoritarian form.

Look on the bright side - he hasn't had to spend any money on cans of pop or flowers to hand out to the troops for this change of government!

You are a traitor to all the people who love you. Your party has sold out to those who opposed you and now your party is in bed with them. You obviously were never for the people which is now evident. You and your party are finished. Such treachery will not be forgiven or forgotten.

Simple. He's returning on the 22nd and later that day PT nominate him for PM. Back and once again Prime Minister.

Maybe stay of the local highways, just in case his private jet does a Malaysian style "landing".

This..

Which is still a way cooler arival than Ninoy Aquino got in Manila, although the result was the same.

No, it’s normal. If you arrive in a private plane you get very little scrutiny from customs and immigration. I have arrived in to many different countries on a private plane owned by people I worked as executive protection for. It’s simply, land, be met at the aircraft, go to a very small office for immigration, stamp the passport and away. If someone is flying in a commercial aircraft, it’s a completely different scenario.

Wonder how many of the red shirts in the North and Northeast are still loyal following his dirty deal with the military parties. And the  younger voters don't know how who the hell he is.
