Crime Online E-Cigarette Kingpin Arrested in Bangkok – Over 100 Million Baht in Sales Uncovered
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. In a high-profile raid conducted by police, a major online e-cigarette distributor with a customer base spanning the country has been arrested. The suspect, identified as Mr. Thonnon, 41, was found in possession of over 100,000 vaping products worth more than 50 million baht at a commercial building in the Prawet district of Bangkok. The operation was led by Police General Prachuap Wongsuk, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, in coordination with officers from the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and the Metropolitan Police Bureau. The arrest was carried out at a four-storey commercial unit located in the Cape Biz Sector along Sukhaphiban 2 Road, which had been covertly transformed into a central distribution warehouse and packaging centre. Authorities began investigating after discovering a secret Line group named “Nai Khieow Khajee” (“Mr. Verdant Green”), which served as a hub for the illegal sale of vaping products. The group operated as a large-scale online dealer, using private courier services to discreetly ship items across Thailand while avoiding official scrutiny. Upon entering the premises with a court-issued search warrant, officers found the building filled with boxes of vaping devices, e-liquid pods and related paraphernalia. A team of around 10 employees was in the process of packing orders for distribution when police intervened. During questioning, Mr. Thonnon admitted ownership of the entire inventory and confessed that he had been running the operation for over two years, sourcing the products from Chinese suppliers. He revealed that daily revenue ranged between 300,000 and 500,000 baht, with annual financial transactions exceeding 100 million baht. Authorities have charged him with the illegal sale and distribution of e-cigarettes and related liquids, as well as with concealing and trading goods smuggled into the Kingdom without customs clearance. He was taken into custody and handed over, along with the seized items, to investigators from the CPPD’s Subdivision 1 for further legal proceedings. Thailand maintains a strict ban on the importation and sale of e-cigarettes, and officials continue to clamp down on illegal networks that exploit online platforms to circumvent the law. Accident Teenage Boy 15, Dies After Motorcycle Crashes into Rear of Car in Lampang
Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A 15-year-old boy has died following a road crash in Lampang province on the evening of 28 May. The incident occurred on the outer ring road near the entrance to Ban Sri Muad Klao, in Chomphu subdistrict, Mueang district. Emergency services from the Lampang Rescue Association were alerted by the 191 Police Radio Centre after a report was received of a motorcycle colliding with the rear of a white Honda City sedan. Upon arrival, rescue personnel found the car stationary in the middle of the road with damage to the left rear side. Debris from the impact was scattered across the road surface. A blue-and-black motorcycle bearing Lampang plates was found nearby, heavily damaged and lying on its side. The rider, later identified as Mr Songkran, a 15-year-old student from a local school in Mae Tha district, was discovered unresponsive at the scene. He was wearing his school sports uniform and had been thrown from the vehicle by the force of the impact. He was found lying face down at the roadside, bleeding from his mouth and nose. Rescue workers immediately performed CPR before rushing him to Lampang Hospital. Despite all efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead a short time later. Initial investigations suggest the motorcycle was travelling at high speed before it slammed into the back of the sedan. Investigating officers from Khelang Nakhon Police Station have launched a full inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-05-30. -

Politics Anutin Reaffirms Paetongtarn as Official PM Amidst Rumours
Picture courtesy of Siam Rath THAILAND – At the Thai Parliament on the evening of 29th May, Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, firmly addressed recent speculation about potential political hiccups. Anutin made it clear that Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the official Prime Minister, dismissing any notion of a "standby" Prime Minister. Responding to enquiries regarding the political landscape, Anutin chuckled about rumours of replacing the Interior Minister. These speculations, he noted, have been circulating since he first took office two years ago, highlighting ongoing interest in such a pivotal role. Anutin reaffirmed the stability of the current administration, stressing that the government remains a coalition of willing parties committed to governing Thailand. He emphasised a unified approach, sharing that a clear agreement was reached from day one among coalition partners, all backing the Prime Minister proposed by the lead party. This collective effort extends from former PM Srettha Thavisin to Paetongtarn Shinawatra, ensuring adherence to agreed principles and decorum. When questioned about potential threats to the government's tenure, Anutin decisively attributed such risks to disunity, which he insists is absent within the coalition. He underscored a cooperative environment, bound by mutual respect and a shared mission under the Prime Minister's leadership, inherently aligning with the coalition's foundational agreements. The prospects of the government enduring without the Bhumjaithai Party prompted a candid response. Anutin asserted the improbability of such a scenario, underscoring the party's integral role within the coalition and its steadfast support for the lead party that proposed the current Prime Minister. Anutin's remarks aim to quell uncertainties and reinforce confidence in the current government's longevity, hinging on unified collaboration among coalition members.
