An 82-year-old former American soldier was the victim of a violent assault while jogging in Pattaya Youth Center Park.

 

The incident happened at around 10:06 p.m. on September 4, when a seemingly drunken Thai man attacked Mr. Rad, leaving him with a bloody face and a fractured left eyebrow. Pattaya City Police are collecting evidence and searching for the suspect.

 

Mr. Rad, who enjoys regular exercise in the park, reported that the assailant was a dark-skinned Thai man aged between 30 and 40 years. The attacker struck suddenly, prompting Rad to flee and seek help from locals.

Mr. Surachai Kaenthongcharoen, a 45-year-old park security officer, was alerted to the incident by a villager. Upon reaching the scene, Surachai found a tall Thai man who appeared intoxicated and was causing a disturbance.

 

The man claimed to be from Pattaya but fled before police or rescue workers could arrive.

Rad was treated promptly by rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya City. The police, led by Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, are now conducting an active manhunt for the suspect described by Rad and Surachai, reported Daily News.

 

The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, with local authorities urging park-goers to remain vigilant, particularly during after-dark hours.

 

The police have also increased patrols in the vicinity to deter similar incidents.

 

So far, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The police have requested anyone with information related to the attack to come forward to aid in apprehending the assailant.

Asking for trouble??? How on earth is that asking for trouble, especially in a family friendly city such as Pattaya!
For all we know, they may have had his shirt removed to check for injuries. But even if he was shirtless while jogging... get a clue! That is no excuse for assault and battery! The Thai fool was apparently drunk. You act as though he was morally outraged? lol
The level of nonsense here is so high, I'm thinking that this could be sarcasm! If it is... you got me!

The man was exercising for gods sake, it was dark in a park, he wasn't disturbing anybody. While I agree that the habit of some lowlife falang to walk in the street shirtless or in a vest or even go shopping in a supermarket topless is pretty disgusting, this was a different case entirely.

Amazing AN users here - blaming the victim AGAIN!  Who really cares if any older man wants to job anytime during the night or day with or without a shirt on.  Until recently, I did my daily walks at 3AM until my wife made me stop after I ran into a 4-meter Python.    I can recall jogging throughout my life at all hours of the day or night in many different countries.  I have always thought of Thailand as a friendly place but now maybe times have changed or the people have changed.  Stay safe

I've been around drunken Thai men many times, these guys are harmless unless provoked.

Those leaving comments here who are condemning this guy for running without a shirt on you need to get a life.  I bet you haven't run a day in your life.  At least he is trying to stay in shape.  He may be jogging really really slowly, but that is more than you are doing.  Shame on you.  You need to examine your own life and figure out why you are so miserable.  You are an embarrassment to all foreigners.

 

I sure hope nobody gives the Thai guy a pass because he was drunk.  He needs to take personal responsibility drunk or not.  

I am astounded by some of the above comments when, to me, the surprising thing about this story is that there was only ONE attacker.  Are Thai males getting braver or was he full of Dutch Courage?

I'm pushing 91. I used to do my morning walks, wearing a shirt, at 5am. But due to close encounters with snakes in the dark, the legless ones, I now go out at 6am when it is light. Maybe wearing a shirt, as advised by some posters has protected me from being attacked by legless snakes.😉

I'm also 82 and I run most days in Chatuchak park in Bangkok around 6am. A few years ago I had finished running and took off my shirt/singlet and started to do some stationary exercises when a lady from a nearby yoga group approached me and asked me to put on my shirt as the group found my unclothed torso offensive. I apologised, and put on my shirt. Not my country, not my place to argue.

Jogging in a deserted wooded park at 10pm, just asking for trouble.

An old man viciously attacked at 82 years of age, by a drunken Thai bully.

 

This was done without reason (witnessed by a Thai guard) for trying to keep fit in his twilight years and all AN posters can focus on is his lack of a T-shirt, or sarcasm about needing work on his abs, pretty sad really.

 

We then have another clown victim blaming and saying Thai drunk men don't attack without being provoked, what a load of garbage.

 

So what if he was jogging at 10pm, he wasn't harming anybody. What about the clowns drinking alcohol at 7am, or worse still, all day and night.

 

The level and standard of responses from some posters here makes the mind boggle.

Kudos to you at 82👏But...let me say this....put a shirt on if your going to sweat otherwise you will get a cold ,and at 82 ..... well. . pneumonia

Why shouldn't he , he obviously runs at night and with out wearing a shirt simply because it would be cooler and even someone like yourself could understand that , then and again some don't have the ability.
