Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has recently unveiled a stunning collection of luxury watches valued at a whopping 162 million baht during her assets declaration to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Among the 75 exquisite pieces, one brand stands out as her apparent favourite: Patek Philippe.

Leading the glittering assortment with 29 watches, Patek Philippe has captured the premier’s heart. Known for their superior craftsmanship and timeless elegance, these Swiss timepieces have become a symbol of luxury and sophistication.

Although the NACC disclosure didn't elaborate on the specifics of each model, it is known that one of her prized Patek Philippe watches, the World Time 7130R, is valued online at around 1.39 million baht.

Rolex and Audemars Piguet also find a significant place in Paetongtarn's collection, with 14 watches from each brand adorning the list. Both brands are synonymous with prestige and are perennial favourites among collectors.

Her diverse collection also includes five pieces from Bvlgari, three from Richard Mille, two each from FP Journe, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels, and single pieces from Piaget and Hublot. Curiously, two watches remain unidentified in her declaration.

The asset disclosure is part of a transparency initiative allowing the public to access the financial statements of the prime minister and her 16 Cabinet ministers through the NACC. However, while these documents can be viewed for transparency reasons, safety protocols restrict photographing or photocopying of the disclosures.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra's impressive array of timepieces reflects not just personal taste but also the evolving landscape of luxury in Thailand. It points towards a deep appreciation for Swiss watchmaking heritage, especially the legacy of Patek Philippe.

Founded in 1839 by Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe, the watchmaker is revered for its intricate designs and precise engineering, and it remains one of the oldest unbroken watch brands globally.

With over 400 retail emporiums worldwide, Patek Philippe has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of luxury, resonating with affluent collectors and horology enthusiasts alike.

As details of the prime minister's collection make waves, it appears her choice of Patek Philippe is a clear nod to quality and heritage, setting it apart among Thai elites, reported The Nation.

Talk about "Wealth beyond the dreams of avarice" that takes the cake.

That said, she is probably just doing her duty - as she sees it - by fronting for other members of her corrupt clan.

Never understood the fuss with patek apart from well made. Some of the blandest watches going lately.

Saying that RM isn't much better for something that looks like a kids toy and usually costs over £100,000 😕

And poor old Prawit has none.

They are only on loan from a dead friend. :whistling:

Brilliant marketing by the Swiss watch industry to the new market of neuveau riche Asians. You don't buy a watch you have to have a 'portfolio' of watches.

And the Shinawatras have the poor people of Thailand high on their agenda...

Paetongtarn can sort that out in-between her shopping trips for watches and luxury brand handbags

Reminds me of Imelda Malcos(wife of Philippine's dictator 1972-81)

and her obsession with shoes.

I have a ten dollar Timex glued to a one kilo ingot of 99.9% gold worth more than her crummy Patek Phillipe. 😀

That is where my sales tax go.  Terrible.  How about actually spend money widening streets and putting unobstructed sidewaks.

Sounds similar to my watch collection. Some of my Lolex watches cost me 499 Baht!

(The guy asked for 500, but I bargained him down).

According to Forbes 2024, the Shinawatra family are not even in the top 10 billionaires in Thailand.

Why are you not complaining about the greed of the much richer families, the richest of which is worth 17 or 18 times richer than Thaksin?

Probably because they didn't get rich the same way as your overly corrupt hero

I remember when she was in Mattayom 6 she came to school in a brand new brown Bentley. Never liked her then.

I despise how he started the Tom Yam Gung affair as Deputy PM under the most corrupt PM ever, big Jiew, making Billions of US$.

and she earned the money to buy all of those watches from babysitting gigs when she was a teenager

What is it with this lot and watches?!
