Ellis Matthews, a British TikTok influencer from Lancashire, has found herself in a Thai prison for overstaying her visa. Known online as @mumontheruninasia, Ellis attracted attention for sharing her lavish lifestyle, funded by UK benefits allegedly. The 32-year-old moved to Thailand four years ago, documenting her life to over 16,000 followers. However, her controversial tips on claiming benefits while living abroad backfired, leading to a police raid at her Pattaya home.

Ellis, who claimed £2,300 monthly due to purported mental health issues, now faces grim conditions in detention. Meanwhile, doubts about the legitimacy of her benefits claims loom large. British authorities do permit some overseas benefit claims, but Thailand isn't typically approved.

The arrest also sparked a fundraising effort garnering little support and mixed reactions online. Despite the turmoil, Ellis’s three-year-old son, Cairo, remains in Thailand, but his mother’s older children remain in the UK.

The case, tangled in claims and scepticism, echoes Ellis’s past controversies, including an unrecorded compensation claim and prior legal issues in the UK. With authorities watching closely, her future hangs in the balance, creating a poignant spectacle for family and followers alike, reported The Thaiger.

I wonder how many sphincters here on AN  tightened up reading this from the Mirror:

The UK Government website says a British citizen may still be able to claim some benefits even if they travel or move abroad, or even if they already live abroad. But there there are several instances where it is classified as fraud if you have benefits paid to you while abroad, which can include.

  • Not telling office that pays your benefit you’re going abroad, even if it’s just for a visit
  • Deliberately not reporting a change in your circumstances while abroad, like buying a property, working, or claiming a pension or benefit from another country
  • Being dishonest in order to get benefits, like continuing to claim the pension or benefit of someone who has died overseas

DumbOnTheRunInAsia!

OMG could anyone be more stupid. I feel sorry for the kids. Sadly, this is what many in the UK aspire to these days. British authorities are a soft touch, so benefits are being milked at taxpayers' expense. Apparently there are even TikTokers making films on how to make fraudulent benefit claims.

These are the people that need clearing up from scamming befefits. Middle picture she looks like a freak

Arrested for overstaying visa?

What sort of work was she doing? Judging by her videos, there is probably one a few things she has any talent for.

If she is claiming benefits she should be reporting back every few months.

She's got plenty of kids apparently.

At first i thought she was trolling, being outrageous - but this is something else.

I doubt any of her story, even the suffering in jail tale - the gofundme setup always raises suspicion.

Many Brits i meet who live in Thailand, are on some sort of benefits from the generous UK, more so after Covid. Absolute parasites. Then they pontificate on muslims..

Awful.

The source of the information seems to be Ms Matthews herself so some common sense and scepticism required when reading the story.

So tired of influencers, every body thinks they are so important nowadays. Walk into a gym, every average looking guy/ girl is filming his/ herself like they are Arnold Swarzenegger.

The problem is she has a history of (and im being generous) exagerating claims. Can anyone believe this?

Noticed this thread is very quiet with Brits on this forum ,who would usually be all over it. Most likely hoping this story gets no traction of foreigners sitting abroad claiming benefits - COS THERE IS ALOT OF THEM DOING THIS.

How could she afford to live abroad as it looks like she blew all her money on awful plastic surgery !

  • Popular Post

She's not the only benefits fraudster in Thailand. There must be thousands claiming the annual state pension upgrade and free NHS access  by having a fake residency address in UK. Well things are about yo change for them as the UK govt clamps down on the saud benefit fraudsters. Now let's see who complains about my post!

  • Popular Post

So she allegedly swindles the UK Government out of money, puts this on tik tok, tells other people how to do the same and gets arrested for visa overstay?  Not the sharpest knife in the draw??:whistling:

Now of course the UK will hope fully go over here 'benefits' with a microscope!

Yes, raiding up would be appropriate. And out with all that riffraff here. Implement new Visa rules. Visa free only for 2 weeks, no DTA. There is even more to do.

How did she fund that awful cosmetic surgery?

She didn't. She thought she could out-fight joe Bugner.
