What is the first thing you eat when you go home?

I am back in England at the moment for my dads 90th birthday. As soon as I walked through the front door and he said what do you want to eat, I instantly thought curry. Within 30 minutes I had a Chicken Tikka Dhansak, Keema rice and Peshwari Naan in front of me, from the local takeaway, being washed down by a couple of cans of Tanglefoot ale. Heavenly!

Halfway through I realised that on my last trip I did pretty much the same.

Aside from copious amounts of quality ales, I know I am also going to be nailing a really good Chinese at some point, because if Pattaya has one, I don't know of it.

My local deli is also going to get seriously raided.

It made me wonder what everybody else does when they leave LOS for their home country. What do you guys crave when you get home, that either isn't where you live, or is horribly hard to find?

real ale, eg Bathams  then..... usually meals in this order not all on same day i hasten to add

an Indian/Bangladeshi curry

fish n chips

Pie chips and curry sauce

a Chinese special curry

take 96 year old Dad to local carvery

all whilst raiding the supermarket for cheese of all descriptions

As soon as I get off the train (200 yards from my apartment) I nip into the bakery opposite and buy a large bacon and mushroom bap.

Later, I visit the supermarket and stock up on Warburtons crumpets, Lurpak salted butter and decent ground coffee for breakfast. Supper is fish (large haddock), chips and curry sauce. Oh and a bottle of dandok (dandelion and burdock) to wash it down.

Always have a Char Siu Chow Mien at least once on my visit.

I am home.

The first thing I eat when arriving home

Is PaTong Go fried by the local shop before the sun comes up. If I need more breakfast i like kapao gai, or maybe kuaytiaw. Then I have Kao Soi or Kao man Gai for lunch (with pineapple shake).

You don't have to wait to get back home for that, it's all available here!

Fish and Finnerks
A curry , probably a Rogan Josh or a Lamb Bhuna + chappatis .
A cheese ( Mature cheddar or Wensleydale etc ) and Branson Pickle.
Some pink grapefruits, if available.

Grits, corn dogs, burgers, key lime pie?
Yes I would go for a burger or two back there but not right off the plane. Also in contention for first American bite is a chile relleno burrito.

No sir; for yanks should be big macs, mac apple pies, KFC, wendy burgers, washed down by 2l of coke or sprite with free refill (must be in a giant paper cup).

But I haven't been home to my country of origin for 24 years (not USA) so I can't answer the question.

None of that for me except for actually decent southern fried chicken not fast food.

It's funny when British people think about Indian food back home. Thailand is full of Indian restaurants.

Large bag of chips from local chippy and plenty of slices of buttered white bread.

Chip shop curry sauce-optional

It's the REAL beer available everywhere in Canada and cheap compared to Thailand.

But for food sakes, it's the fresh, flavourful  standard breakfast with bacon (Brits call it streaky bacon), large eggs over easy (almost impossible in Thailand), fried potatoes with onions and bell peppers (Brits = capsicum), deliciously fresh beefsteak tomatoes, and whole wheat or multi-grain toast and rich fruit jam.

It isn't the same here, nor is the Chinese food.
