Over 90% of Thai people want a total ban on foreign arrivals

Featured Replies

One question that must be asked is where is this poll held? With answers like these it must be in Bangkok and surrounding area. Go to what should be tourist areas and ask again down there. Suspect there will be somewhat different answers then.

And with a population approaching 70 million people that really puts the pitiful amount polled into perspective!!

94.45% are most concerned about losing their jobs,   Obviously, not many of the massive number of 1,459 people questioned in the poll, were from the millions who have, rather sadly, already

  • Can’t expect anything else when they are getting totally brainwashed on a daily basis. Even some of the foreigners who are living In Thailand are spouting the same scaremongering nonsense.

  • Looks terribly stupid. Looks like brainwashing and fear works beyond expectation. But 5% thinking brains is probably the common world percentage.

I don't think foreigners already here really fall into the arrivals part of the OP.

Only if you are prepared not to leave Thailand for the rest of your life. Once you leave,  no return...

yeh remember when ALL the polls said trump was going to lose and he did not have a hope in hell of even coming a close 2nd LOL

All the polls were very close and all have a margin of error. When a poll result is 95%, the margin of error becomes irrelevant.

Over 90% of respondents to a recent opinion poll fear the prospect of the second wave of COVID-19 infections and they want a complete ban on foreign arrivals in Thailand, according to a Suan Dusit Poll

Was the poll done in Rayong by any chance?

Does that include the Chinese?  After all, they are the ones who first brought Covid, the gift that keeps on giving, from Wuhan last January.

Aside from tourism, who will buy all the condos in BKK, Phuket, Pattaya?

Next step.. who will build any new condos or houses?

How many foreign companies will start manufacturing in Thailand

All this money will disappear... back to the rice fields and farms for the majority of the population.

The rich will be fine and come and go, the middle class will disappear. Seems like a great plan!

Surely they don't understand the implications of banning foreigners to the country, 20% of GDP plus all the Baht given to Thai people/girls/families support for those families which is not part of GDP, which must add up 100s of millions of Baht or do the Thai people want to go back to the 1960s and make a living from the land.

All the factories around here have not stopped. Even my step-daughter, employed by CP group, has only had the usual Sunday and public holidays off work and I'm sure many other companies are operating in a similar fashion.. Companies have thrived here since the 1990's through industrialization. Do not assume that we foreigners are needed to sustain life and limb here.

So the Thailand dream is unfortunately just that. I think It will take years to undo the damage now. My Thai friends agree it's a systematic campaign to destroy the farang image, excluding the Chinese of course!

I've always loved the Thai people but think it's now time to seek new pastures. I'll be back I'm sure but with a different perspective and an open mind. Keep moving forward, at least until someone nails the lid shut!

And this is precisely the reason, rightly or wrongly, Thailand's borders will stay closed for some time to come.   For those of us outside the country who would like to visit, it's going to be a long wait.   For those of us whose life / house / family is in Thailand, returning from abroad is going to be a bureaucratic, expensive and painful process.

I know that feeling. I'm stuck in the US, my wife stuck in Thailand and No Flight in Sight!

Ahhhhhhhh, nothing more refreshing than a big dose of Thai logic on a Monday morning. By the time these idiots have finished there will be no desire for most foreigners to ever go back to what will soon be an impoverished 3rd world country again. Too many better options for Farang now.

Thai’s are not this stupid. One has to wonder how ‘loaded’ the questions in the poll were...

i.e. Should we allow foreigners in from countries with high covid numbers?

or should we allow the risk of foreigners bring in covid? etc

The Bahamas just banned Americans entering, presumably from the US. Next you see is Mexico building  border wall to keep Americans from entering and the US will pay for it.

Right. Very suggestive questions

10 million and growing number of unemployed might disagree. Let’s poll them and see the results

Correct. It's business as usual in Laem Chabang and my factories in Chonburi.

We have all seen the dire predictions of job losses and yet the most recent data shows; (Source - Trading Economics);

The unemployment rate in Thailand came in at 1% in March of 2020, the same as in the corresponding month the previous year. The number of unemployed increased by 45.3 thousand from the prior year.

Looks like even though the poll shows they don't want foreigners the Government is looking at opening up Phase 6 which will include migrant construction workers, film crews. And of course a few more classes. However, the biggest addition will be those with the Thai Elite visas, that may help a few, but i think the majority of those will be the New Chinese TE Visa holders. So go figure...

this poll was done in a university, where obviously the students do not depend on tourism
this is not a poll of "random people" but a specific group type

"All the polls were very close" we both know that is completely false
The Polls — All Of Them — Show Hillary Clinton Leading

We will soon see Biden win in November, if you are correct.

As long as they're only hostile to foreign arrivals and not to the foreigners already here, we're OK for the time being... phew!

Those stats are for those known to be employed and documented as such. Nothing in the stats shows those unemployed from the informal tourism sector which employs many many folks that live outside the documentation realm.

Fixed your sensationalism for you ????

Yet another example of a website read overwhelming by foreigners writing an anti-foreigner headline. Whoever is doing this needs to be replaced by someone who truly understands what they are writing, or someone who doesn't have an anti-foreigner agenda.

And maybe a foreign college professor should come in to teach you about basic statistics and then you *might* understand how a properly formulated poll of 1459 will give a statistically valid result.

A country with a population Of 70.000.000.- from different economic and social states.. ask to 1.459? For a statistic?

As someone wrote; this poll was done in a university, where obviously the students do not depend on tourism

Maybe you can learn something new today. You haven’t idea what are you talking.????

It is common sense really. I can’t blame them. If I lived in area with low Covid19, I would for say for everyone to stay da <deleted> out too!

Hello ,

it’s kinda hard to do when Tourism accounts for a huge slice of pie in Thailand’s GDP !!
Also Thai people should concern themselves more so with themselves except for wearing mask in Malls , Banks and Movie Theaters , Most Thais believe Covid is finished in Thailand and don’t wear mask or rarely practice

Social Distancing.

This is VERY !! Visible Where ever I go in

Nakhon Ratchasima  Province / Area.

Does this result surprise anyone who has lived in Thailand for some years?

Thais put up with us. That's all. If there was any way they could effectively get rid of most of us, they would. Here it is. Sure, for some it's going to be shooting themselves in the foot, but for most it's just, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."

What sort of a headline is that?  it says in the newspaper article "33.43% want a total ban on foreign arrivals" and not 90%.  I call this hate-speech and propaganda on the part of whoever wrote the title of the article.  Most people only read headlines and not the full article so their perception of what it really says is distorted - this is a tactic that has been used to misinform people for decades by governments and leaders.  It is quite disgusting.

Cambodia is building the biggest airport in the world

Are you sure about that? Source, please. There are airports in the Middle East that can handle 100 million passengers a year. Why would Cambodia need an airport that can handle more than  that number?
