Dr Pongsakorn Chindawatana, senior director of communications at Bangkok Hospital, went online to issue stark warnings about the latest wave of Covid-19 infections.

He urged the public to take great care as the latest outbreak is "huge".

A hundred cases came back positive from just two labs, some medicines were in short supply and he expected 1,000 cases a day very soon.

He said that this third wave would be "many times worse" than the first ones.

He suggested avoiding gatherings like parties and in pubs and entertainment venues.

He urged people not to visit younger relatives who might have been out.

If you go to restaurants he suggested only go with family members.

He advised stocking up on supplies to avoid having to go out frequently.

He said people should wear masks at all times, throw away used ones, wash hands frequently with alcohol sanitizer and even take showers and wash hair and wash clothes after going out.

He urged people to look after themselves, reported Daily News

  • Good thing they had over 1 year to prepare. Used the time wisely I see.

  • It's supposed to be scary, headline-grabbing, etc.  Songkran was postponed last year, how much of the rest of your life do you want to postpone? Probably best to double-mask and stay at home watc

One would think this statement would be a good communication tool to force the government to speed up the vaccination through the private sector.... for example by Bangkok Hospital?

Government's got their fingers in their ears, their own experts say travel is fine, visit your relatives over Songkran no problem, even if you come from a red zone.

This is about one doctor's opinion.

This is another example of why it will be a long time before I visit Thailand again.

People who spend thousands of dollars to come over now have to also get expensive health insurance, quarantine, tracking etc, while in the meantime they let in workers from nearby countries for some payola and then they tell locals to go traveling in the country during another wave....

Screw them and their idiotic way of doing things.....

But I guess  Anutin prefers to ignore them or label them as fear mongers.

thailand, the new hub of "could/may/might"

Just heard rumors that the new clusters in Bkk are people infected with the British strain. If that's the case, we're probably screwed. That being said, they are rumors only, so who knows.

Before people ask me, they were cropped pictures of chats between doctors at Chula hospital discussing it. Can easily be all fake, and hopefully it is.

Yes, the senior director of communications. Please note "Songkran Sundowners event and AustCham Thailand Member Briefing: Update on COVID-19 Vaccines by Bangkok Hospital event on Wednesday XXXX, have been postponed.

This is due to the recent case emergence of COVID-19 in Bangkok."

This meeting was sponsored by BANGKOK hospital.

Ajarn Thiravat Hemachudha, a virologist at Chula and my colleague Aj. Yong also agree.

What is your expertise?

The Thai government let its guard down. After so many sacrificed so much during the past year with lockdowns, quarantines, curfews, lost jobs and wages, it's all going for naught, as the rush for bubbles, vaccination passport waivers, abolished quarantines, lax to no enforcement of masks and social distancing create a Covid tidal wave.

If it's as bad as he seems to think, and just remember how little testing they do nationally so it actually may be much worse, then why should it stop rising at 1,000 cases a day? 10,000 cases or even 50,000 cases a day are also perfectly possible once the authorities lose their grip, which seems to have happened. The first thing Prayut should do is announce an immediate nationwide lockdown, and the second is to fire his imbecilic health minister, Anutin, who's criminally incompetent.

Why is the truth supposed to be scary? Methinks you've lost the plot.

It's a global pandemic killing millions. These health professionals are just trying to save our lives. Sad some don't understand this.

We've managed to sort it out.. I thought Thailand was meant to be a master when it came to evading this crisis?
