The Thai cabinet today (Tuesday) designated Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as the sole authority in charge of all responsibilities and duties, previously vested in his ministers, to deal with the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The powers vested in various ministers, by virtue of various laws regarding the issuance of orders, permits and approvals which will help in preventing or containing COVID spread or in helping the people, will be vested in the prime minister on temporary basis.

According to the cabinet, the concentration of powers with the prime minister is to ensure efficiency in the efforts to deal with the disease. The laws include the Communicable Disease Act, the Drugs Act, the Navigation in Thai Waters Act, the Air Travel Act, the Land Traffic Act, the Armaments Act, the Medical Equipment Act, the Immigration Act, the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act, the Poisonous Substances Act and the National Health Security Act, among others.

Let's hope this Czar goes the same way as the last one. Well not quite the same way perhaps but you get the gist.

By "not quite the same way" I assume you refer to his family not being punished for his actions. In every other way he deserves the same end.

One wonders why we bother with a cabinet as they seem to appoint the PM a "sole person in charge" of, well, pretty much everything.

Oh dear, a car crash waiting to happen. Well I will just sit back and watch the show.

So he took more powers than he originally took - a rose by any other name

There will be only one thing that stops this buffoon and it will need to move very quickly, about 1600ft/sec I guess

Perfect.. If he fails than we can get rid of his man, because he will be the man who is the only man responsible for the Covid crisis.. Can't wait because he will fail

So who was in charge before?

I think that you had no answers to your question prior to my reply answers the question????

Why allow others to screw something up when you can do it yourself? The best part is there are no repercussions allowed.

Good luck hope he heeds catasophy  that being encountered in India and does utmost to vaccinate entire population before opening up for Tourism. This should be completed in about 12 months provided he is able to obtain sufficient vaccines

A new Czar, well I hope he doesn't try taking money from poor Thai people who are out of work because of the virus, for not wearing a mask. Also unless you order the vaccines they will not come. Way too much talk and not enough action. Time to sh-- and get off the pot.

Czar

Kaiser

Caesar

Take your pick from the synonyms - But note that the Ides of March have already passed for this year.

I expect a sassy new hat to appear soon. Perhaps even a laurel wreath - that would be very fetching.

"the Armaments Act"

I see where this all is going - 2 aircraft carriers from china for $1bln each, because thailand is worth it.

the government coalition started to crack, with bhumjaithai politicians blaming prayuth for  making all important decisions.

he also decided to post thammanat, the drug dealer minister, to the south of country, which angered democrats (still, the south is their stronghold, after losing bangkok)

  • Popular Post

Another blow to democracy with the uneducated now in sole command of everything.

Now there will many more fits of anger when the little bloke can't cope with all the **** piling up on his desk, keep your distance from the hair spray, sanitiser etc

Does taking on the new responsibilities come with a pay rise?

Got to recoup that THB6000 fine somehow.

And I just booked a one way ticket out of here and I'm taking my credit card with me.

I'll be back when the Czar transforms Thailand from the the hub of lockdowns into the hub of vaccines.

I figure I'll be back some time in 2022.

So Thai. Now after they are unable to cover up their incompetence, I'd love to see all those idiotic western media retract their gleaming reviews.

Thailand is almost uniquely incompetent with a large scale effort like this as it is managed more as a series of fiefdoms rather than as a modern, unified country.

This is why the PM has had to announce (under penalty of force) that he is the authority.

Watching them perform so poorly is enjoyable - especially since we get to tease all the farang here who lapped up the propaganda about how wonderful Thailand has been doing.
