Oh, great - a "field hospital" ... but no back-up generator.

Worse: no existing plan in the event of a blackout, other than telling everyone to just stay put.

They are not known for contingencies or planning ahead.

Proper education and discipline fixes this.

It seems the approach for prisoners is the herd immunity one i.e. letting them all catch it. As a percentage of population these figures are astronomical. If they had any real plan to contain it

Going by previous experience I suspect this is not exclusive to the prisons but also to some of the migrant worker camps where they are currently locked in.

The Thai government is asking people not to call a new strain of Covid-19 detected in the UK the “Thai Variant” as it originated in Egypt

https://twitter.com/ThaiNewsReports/status/1398136909734547456

It was discovered in Thailand.

Just as the UK one was discovered in the UK.

Therefore, following the previous logic of calling a British variant, this must be known as the Thai variant.

End of.

Wait, didn't they name it themselves, ergo why an earlier article published claims it was the Thai Variant.  So confused by the daily stories, denials and u-turns, sometimes my head just spins.  I feel like I am on a merry go-round.

Well Kh Anutin, what are you doing to ensure no further Thais infected with the Thai strain are becoming super spreaders ? I won't say dirty Thais as you labelled some foreigners but you get my point I hope.

It's the very  same  with  many countries, Ireland  has been at around 400 a day for the past  5 weeks,so it's not only Thailand.

No it isn’t. Most countries report figures responsibly and appropriately. Ireland had its wave spike and has flattened off; Thailand is either unwilling or doesn’t have the means to show it. Take official figures and x10-x100.

You must fly direct to Phuket. Attached are some examples of airlines doing direct flights. Please note, all flights are subject to change or cancellation. There was talk originally of being able to fly Bangkok and then being escorted to Phuket. But no confirmation of this yet

How would a British health organization detect a variant in Thailand?

Because it was uploaded to the GISAID database by Thailand when they identified it in the Egyptian guy

That was quick:

Thailand's FDA has approved Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use - barely a day after Princess Chulabhorn gave the go-ahead for its importation in a move that caught the health ministry unawares

Was Thailand the first country to upload this variant to the database?

Security forces deployed after Covid-19 patients tried to flee field hospital during power outage

More than 500 Covid-19 patients, all Myanmar nationals, tried to escape from a field hospital in Phetchaburi province during a power outage on Thursday evening, a news source revealed.

The field hospital has been set up within the Cal-Comp Electronics Thailand factory, in Khao Yoi district, about 100 kilometres southwest of Bangkok, after 682 workers tested positive earlier this month.

“At around 6pm, there was an electrical malfunction at the hospital, as a result electric fans stopped working,” said the source. “About 500 patients were upset due to the hot and crowded conditions and tried to escape from the building.”

Maybe they remembered the time that the Thai army chucked a trussed up bunch of them into the back of an army truck like they were logs and a lot of them died due to suffocation, maybe thought it was happening again. Tongue in cheek on that one.

but I love the way they refer to a “field hospital” repeatedly in the OP. It’s actually just the electronics factory that they all work in. Other than cardboard beds I bet there isn’t much in the way of hospital equipment.

Well they are not calling it the Lebanon virus are they.

Watched Al Jazeera report last night. Reporter in front of Thai prison stated that "80% of inmates tested had tested positive for Covid". We don't know how many inmates were tested and why those specific inmates were tested, but I would consider that still worrisome.

There is probably some scientific merit in studying the 1% of inmates who don’t test positive.

Latest trends chart for new daily COVID cases in Thailand. The blue bars show self-referred cases, the yellow bars cases found via outreach testing, and the gray bars showing prison cases.

In general, Thailand's total daily COVID cases have been ranging between about 2,500 and 3,500 per day for the past two weeks, rarely moving either above or below those levels, although Friday's 3,759 total broke to the high side of that range.

And cases breakdown by provinces, with four provinces led by Bangkok (973) reporting more than 100 new cases on Friday. Thirty provinces reported only between one and 10 new cases, and 29 provinces reported no new cases. Thus 59 of Thailand's 77 provinces reported 10 or fewer cases for the day.

So basically he is telling them that Sinovac is a go and to not worry about its pedigree without the WHO approval.  MY view of course.

Reading between the lines AZ will be scarce at first, some sinovac and a lot of sinopharm?

Of the 2,447 local cases (excluding the cases in prisons and imported), the highest numbers by province were 973 in Bangkok followed by 658 in Phetchaburi, 221 in Samut Prakan, 102 in Nonthaburi and 55 in Samut Sakhon. #โควิด19 #โควิด19วันนี้ #WhatsHappeningInThailand

Lets see when the Sinopharm gets here.  It is a vaccine that has been WHO approved and at least Peru, Hungary have been using it.

https://www.who.int/news-room/feature-stories/detail/the-sinopharm-covid-19-vaccine-what-you-need-to-know

A large multi-country Phase 3 trial has shown that 2 doses, administered at an interval of 21 days, have an efficacy of 79% against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection 14 or more days after the second dose. Vaccine efficacy against hospitalization was 79%.

The trial was not designed and powered to demonstrate efficacy against severe disease in persons with comorbidities, in pregnancy, or in persons aged 60 years and above. Women were underrepresented in the trial. The median duration of follow-up available at the time of evidence review was 112 days.

Two other efficacy trials are under way but data are not yet available.

Sinopharm trial not designed to assess serious disease risk for the age 60 and over group... That's a troubling absence.... speaking personally!  ????

Same for people with comorbidities....  So they only wanted to trial test on healthy young bucks????

Today there are 34 deaths in #Thailand:

18 males and 16 females

Median age is 69 (33-92 years)

Most deaths in Bangkok (24), Samut Prakan (3), Nakhon Si Thammarat (2), plus 5 provinces with one each.

18 infected from family 5 had no underlying diseases

The current outbreak in bangkok is not improving more than one month on. The only solution is a strict lockdown for Bangkok and surrounding areas for at least a month. No one should be allowed to leave or enter Bangkok.

Currently, anyone can travel to and from Bangkok without any restrictions, which is insane. Bus services operates as usual between BKK and most provinces which helps to spread the virus to more provinces.

Germany start to vaccinate 12 years old kids. Researchs has shown , kids normaly not get "bad" covid they still spread it. That vaccine what given to kids is not any of vaccine what use in Thailand.

Well if you multiple it by 100 like u say, then this virus isn't half as dangerous   as they say.
