The Private Hospital Association of Thailand announced that all their hospitals will charge 3,400 baht for two doses of Moderna vaccine.

It was previously announced that it would be 3,800 baht but this has now been reassessed after a meeting with The Government Pharmaceutical organisation and Zuellig Pharma.

PHA chief Dr Chalerm  Hanphanich said that the price of 1,700 baht for each of two jabs will include the vaccine, service fee and insurance.

People can start paying from July 1st, Thursday, that will inform hospitals how much vaccine they need which will be decided by the end of July.

Jabs will begin as previously announced on October 1st and continue through the fourth quarter, reported Sanook yesterday.

The GPO and Zuellig will be completing contractual matters next week.

That makes 2 of us, I'd be prepared to pay 50% up front, balance on receipt of 1st jab.

I guess the main reason they lowered the price is because they didn't collect enough advance payments, for something the may never be delivered, and is not refundable.

Don't they have any shame? ( No need to answer that question)

I'm sure...

Just one thing, is there a guarantee they'll keep the 2nd jab for you or is there a risk it could be delayed?

Oh yes there is, because I have read here before in news articles (not posts from members) that there is NO REFUND policy

I am pretty sure the hospitals will have to pay up front. And the vaccine has only a limited shelf life. I understand that they don't just order amount x only to find out that the demand is not what they expected.

As long as they have a fair refund policy I don't think paying up front is a problem.

Some of the terms I've seen basically say that price is subject to change, that delivery is subject to change, that your "order" can be cancelled without notice, and refunds are not mentioned.

One assumes that thye'd sell all on the first dose, then try to get more, and string us along. That would suck.

That said, 3,400 is probably a small amount for a decent vaccine. I'll pre-pay.

Is it a secret which hospitals will offer this, and, as usual are they all in Bangkok?

Are you more concerned about loosing 3400 Baht than to get Cocid-19?

3'400 THB for 2 shots, plus 2 x health provider fee, 2 x nurse fee, 2 x hospital fee, 2 x certificate fee, 1 x travel pass fee, 1 x vaccination pass fee, 2 x administration fee.... great deal. pay now 3'400 and later another 3'400.

In other words same policy as AirAsia.

Quite the irony...Air Asia owes me just abouy 3500 baht for cancelled flights in 2020...should I just ask the Thai hospital to collect my fee from them ?

Not at all, but anyone can see that putting down the money, is certainly not going to prevent you catching Covid..... you may, or may not, get an injection some 3 or more months later.

Perhaps the deposit should include some interim Covid insurance as an incentive?

Would that be October 1st 2022 or 2023 ?

  • Popular Post

I will sign up if it's possible to do so at one of the local Pattaya hospitals. If I get access to ANYTHING before they might actually deliver on this, I'm prepared to throw the money away as well. It's better to have something earlier than better later. The money involved in this is trivial compared to experiencing a severe case of Covid-19. The lesser brands appear to offer protection against severe cases (but less protection from getting infected).

I see your point but this is private sector and I assume they may need to be paying full amount or deposit upfront to vaccine suppliers. Unlikely demand will not be there, but I presume they don’t want to be ordering a load of vaccines which are then not used resulting in a financial loss.

Of course, we have the option to wait for the public sector to provide our vaccine….

If you intend mixing with Thai ladies, I suggest T shirt with "I'm fully vaccinated" better option.

One rider* under no circumstances include the word sinovac.

I actually received a refund from Air Asia.   So their refund policy can be worse than Air Asia.

My best guess is that no orders have yet been placed.

Yes, negotiations have been on-going with a gaggle of parties:

Private hospital networks

the PHA

The GPO

Zuellig

Moderna

No one can pony up the cash, hence the bake-sale approach.

Once enough orders have been booked, and paid for, ~ 15 July? Then maybe an order can be placed.

Not sure 1 October is reasonable now.

This has got fornicatii clustericus written all over it. It will be messy.

Available from many hopsital networks.

Check with private hospitals in your area.

Does that not apply to all types of vaccines and medications?

With the lead time of minimally 3 months, the option of flying home (or another country), getting jabbed (for free), and being able to return within that time frame, is an alternative. Getting back into Thailand is the concern. Obviously a much more expensive proposal.... but we likely all have pressing reasons and things to sort out back home.
