ฺBANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) – The government should impose a lockdown to limit people’s movements if new COVID-19 cases continue to be considerable in the next 14 days, said a deputy chief advisor to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

 

Clinical Prof Emeritus Udom Kachintorn, deputy chief advisor to the center, said Thailand already entered its fourth wave of COVID-19 in which daily new cases amounted to 5,000-6,000 and new fatalities stood at about 50 a day.

 

He said if the rates of new cases and deaths continue, the national health system will be unable to cope because monthly new cases will nearly reach 200,000.

Thailand enters 4th COVID-19 wave as more cases are of mutated virus, CCSA advisor says

 

 

Thailand is now entering the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Delta coronavirus variant expected to become the dominant strain in Thailand and the rest of the world in 1-2 months, said  Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr. Udom Kachintorn who is an advisor to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today (Tuesday).

 

In his Facebook live message, he said that the Delta variant is spreading fast in Thailand and, for June and July, is accounting for 30% of all new COVID-19 cases, particularly in and around Bangkok where it is around 50%, predicting that it will become the dominant variant in the next 1-2 months due to its fast transmissibility, which is 40% more than the Alpha strain, which represented 85-90% of all cases in Thailand prior to June.

 

He pointed out that the Delta variant hastens the lung infection, resulting the patients being put on ventilators in just 3-5 days, compared to 7-10 days in the case of Alpha variant. If this situation is allowed to persist, he said that the need for more hospital beds will increase steadily until the entire Thai health system collapses.

Fiddling while Bangkok and Thailand are burning, but do they really and truly care.  If they did, and just say they wanted tourism to return, the way they are doing it now just aint gunna wurk.

It's already too late to lockdown, most infected people have already went to other provinces.

 

You don't wait until a disaster becomes reality to lockdown. You should lockdown before the disaster happens.

The problem isn't people reporting for a vaccine, it's been the total incompetence of those in charge in getting enough to vaccinate the populace within a respectable timeframe !

Where will they impose lockdown? Everywhere except for Phuket and Samui sandboxes? 

Calling it a 4th wave is absurd. The 3rd wave, triggered by VIP partying and Songkran travel, has shown no signs of abating. It already had Delta mixed in back in April; what we see now isn't a new wave, just Delta outpacing the other variants.

For almost an entire year , Thailand's covid deaths were between 0 and 3. How can you possibly say this is the 4th wave. I'd say it's the first. or second at most.

looking at the other countries in the world , this is indeed 2nd wave at most . Having a handful cases every day isn't a wave , it's a warning and can potentially lead to a wave . Looking at the potential for this 1 i might even think that it might lead to a tsunami , and no that isn't 10.000 cases p/d .

The UK health authorities know the uk vaccination rate is high. Vaccination rate in Australia and Thailand are both abysmal. With that in mind it all makes sense.

Yet the UK is vaccinated, well a very large percentage is and Thailand is not vaccinated.  If the UK were not vaccinated they would still be in their lockdown phase. Australia has not vaccinated many people either.

I disagree. High C19 cases justifys authorities getting their fingers out and ordering adequate vaccinations pronto.

Without a vaccination plan, and maximum effort on that plan (500,000 to 1 MM doses daily) there's nothing to do but ride it out, wave after wave.

 

Social distancing and masks are our only tools, I mean other than the current 'government'.

 

A lockdown can stop the spread, especially in ravaged areas, but a national/provincial or city lockdown won't do much good in the long run. A month after the lockdown ends we'll get wave N.

Getting there fingers out will not help when there is a genuine supply issue of the available vaccines on the market .

Joining COVAX would of helped Thailand to get a better share of what is available .

The Uk  know how many of their population have been vaccinated, that’s what they know. And it’s enough to open.

With all this good news coming in, I would like to say Happy Birthday to my brother in the USA who had his vaccine for some time now, while we are circling the drain, and worried about what wave we are on. Help is on the way? It looks like we are truly alone over here.

 Not too sure how it’s 4th when 3rd did not finish , not only did not finish but doubled since it hit 2 months ago.

Mmmmm - 3rd wave . . . 4th wave . . . well Thailand's leaders have never been very good at understanding how the outside world works and how farangs do things - they try to copy it but don't get it right.

It's not just with the pandemic - just look at the Thai approach to presenting statistics - then take a close look at their systems of law, education, policing, justice, finance, and banking, for other notable examples!

I am here in Thailand, Bangkok to be exact, but my family is in the US and yes vaccinated and now traveling to Hawaii and other places for the summer vacation.  Wait happy birthday to your brother in the US.

   Always, always, just talk, talk, talk.  I could care less if this is the 4th wave.   What I am waiting for is the FIRST WAVE of millions of quality vaccines finally arriving for everyone.

4th wave of fear mongering complements of Thai government BS. They will say or publicize anything to rationalize their draconian restrictions.

I think they are going to keep announcing waves until they get a variant called Thai variant . Had Brazilian , Kent , Indian etc so they want to join the team as usual !
