Mix and match vaccinations can boost immunity effectively – Dr. Yong

The “Mix and Match” vaccination practice, in which a shot of a whole virus vaccine is followed by a shot of a vector vaccine, can boost immunity, according to prominent Thai virologist Prof. Dr. Yong Poovorawan, head of Chulalongkorn University’s Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology.

Adding that over 30 scientists and medical experts at the centre are working on five COVID-19 vaccine projects, it has been found that a shot of Sinovac, which is a whole virus vaccine, followed by a shot of AstraZeneca, which is a vector virus vaccine, works well in boosting immunity.

“The whole virus version works in a way similar to getting us infected and it helps our bodies become familiar with the virus. When injected with a different kind, such as the vector virus type, it has what is called a ‘booster effect’. It’s like when someone has recovered from a COVID-19 infection and then receives another vaccine dose, their immunity is boosted again,” he said.

The remark followed Thailand’s National Communicable Disease Committee’s (NCDC) decision yesterday to use the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as a second dose for people who have only received the first dose of China’s Sinovac vaccine, with an interval of 3-4 weeks between the shots, and as a third “booster” shot for medical personnel, most of whom have been fully vaccinated with Sinovac’s CoronaVac, with many still getting infected by the virus.

Mixing one that works with one that doesn't ?

Yeh it's kind of like if you mix non alcoholic beer with actual beer you get half drunk.

Amazing isn't it?:D

There are announcements all over from official sources, not that they are always right, that mixing vaccines is dangerous. But I guess that’s just par for the course nowadays.

I am sure Dr. Yong will follow up shortly with his published, peer reviewed article documenting his research that confirms this incredible news. His contributions to science are inspirational. If only he could get his picture published more often to properly convey his importance in the field.

These guys are working off the back of an envelope. They worked this out last week a day before the policy change.

"Yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan told an online meeting the mix and match practice is “a bit dangerous. We are in a data-free, evidence-free zone. It will be a chaotic situation in countries if citizens start deciding when and who will be taking a second, a third and a fourth dose.”

This is not a rebuttal of the Feature. It is actually from that feature. Where do we go from here?

Mix and match vaccinations can boost immunity effectively, faster – Dr. Yong

The article only reports half of what he said. In BangkokPost, he was reported to say that both vaccines were designed for the Wuhan strain and not the mutated Delta strain.

Why do most people not understand the basics of microbiology?

The rise in cases in Israel and India show similar trend.

Can I buy the "sinovac-based cocktail" at my nearest convenience store (7/11)? lol

What could possibly go wrong.

Especially if your first shot was Sinovac because it does literally nothing at all.

Give everybody 2 shots of Pfizer now and maybe you become the hero you want to be

Quackery..

With 4% of Thais vaccinated, I advise to stop talking and vaccinate the population once and for all.

Last week my daughter had the Sinovac jab, she asked the Doctor

would it be OK to book a dose of Modena and take that vaccine,

and the doctor said NO.  so who are you supposed to believe ?

regards Worgeordie

Actually in Canada, they reccomend if your first shot is Astra Zeneca, then there is no problem and actually boost the effectiveness if you second shot is Moderna or Pzier. Canada still that having 2 AZ is still good.

Thailand once again embarking on process which has not been tested anywhere else in the world and for which WHO has raised concerns!

What a surprise. Grandpa Google supporting the Junta's direction again. Isn't it about time he removed the white overcoat and donned green trousers and shirt with some black boots?

If we got together all the clowns from day one who were praising various jabs, cures, preventatives and whatever, from disinfectant, malaria medicines to Orange juice, we could have a helluva circus.

Wrong Canada is doing it right now. I have friends back there that have AZ on their first and Pzier for their second.

Thank god for Thailands medical experts... where would we be without them.

Dr. Yong, Anutins mouthpiece needs some mouthwash after all the baloney he spouts.

Sounds good...standing in line for my first Sinovac jab tight now and per the new protocol maybe get AZ for second jab first week of August. Also have Moderna reserved for October.

No matter how many awards, one foolish mistake can bring one down as in the case of Dr. Sinovac. I have no doubt the generals leaned on him. Nobody will believe him again.
