  • It's not going away, any reduction in measures will be met with a proportional increase in infections.   But it's almost like they're beginning to realise that something's changed since last

  • Wake me when September ends

  • It may have peaked. We cannot be sure, but we'll relax the rules anyway...

Lift and let live! COVID-19 is here and needed to accept that fact and learn to live with it a LONG time ago.

Get vax... protect yourself...take your level of precautions. Past time to open up.

A life lived in fear is a life not lived.

Yeah, I will be 2 jabs in and a required 2 weeks after the 2nd by then...... just wish I could see the Mrs jabbed up too.

Cases continued rising weeks after the lockdown so I doubt the current drop has that much to do with it.  Same thing happened in India.  Their cases dropped even though they never had much if any lockdowns going on.  It didn't have much to do with vaccination either.  At the time they were probably less than 10% with at least one jab.

Maybe. But, India doesn't rely on foreign tourism for 30% of it's GDP.

Be difficult to convince tens of millions of tourists to visit Thailand if the country's cases are raging AND vaccinations are low.

Good Idea. The people need to work, eat If not all you people with the money may find your self being robbed.  Maybe bloodshed in the streets ! Open up .

One of the first on the opening up list back in Europe, was restaurants with outdoor dining facilities. I have never heard  this being suggested in Thailand??

Surely this should be one of the first measured considered.

Dr Opas said the decline in cases was due to people co-operating with the restrictions put in place and the accelerated rollout of the vaccine throughout the country.

The decline in numbers is due to people going home, testing positive at home, treated at home and not being recorded in hospitals... shifting of numbers.

Was that a joke...???

This sounds like a plan to quell the protestors and appease citizens for a fortnight before they smack it right back to where it was in lockdown again !

All the while failing to mention their inadequate vaccine distribution !

likely many contributing factors to this,

One of them being honesty with the figures...

This is not Breaking News at all and poor reporting. The wording was "could be relaxed" it could also snow in Bangkok next week and I could also win Lottery, but it won't happen. Could is only a possibility so it is not news.

If the news only reported facts, there would be no news!

Going to be a big price to pay by opening up so early. Expect cases to rise sharply 2 weeks after easing lockdowns.

There is already a big price to pay by not opening if you’re  a Thai person.

It was last time if I recall but they struggled to control it.

Some good news (if true). Let's hope schools are included.

I don't want my 16-year-old son attending on-site classes until vaccines are offered to secondary students - and not Sinovac!

Excellent, be great to go out for a sit down meal and enjoy it with a cold beer.

I agree, as if they end up being infected it will be brought back to the home and families.

another drop in numbers today (17165) helps their argument

The number of cases depends on how many people are being tested. Just last week the authorities were bracing themselves for double the cases of Covid. Now this week they are talking it may have peaked because they get one good figure in relation to the others. What they need to do is look at trends from other countries then they will realise that one swallow does not make a summer

For those of you who can't read Thai I can translate this for you. "Lockdown to be extended beyond next week, restrictions to increase"

Its not that difficult. Its possible to have lockdowns but still keep the masses reasonably happy.

Let them buy beer to drink at home, let them look at porn on the internet, let them swim in the condo pool.

I agree that it’s good news…

I ALSO agree that we could find ourselves right back here (strict lockdown/restrictions) again- VERY QUICKLY…. so… I am cautiously optimistic..

I also agree that any “relaxing” is probably going to be gradual… which, I tend to agree with… so, while I’m optimistic, hopeful and feeling better, I also realize that we could go right back to where it is now, literally overnight and any relaxing is going to be slow and gradual….

but i’m ok with that.. small steps forward … but keep making those steps each week.

Just swimming pools

Funny, UK 30000 plus a day with a highly vaccinated population.

Maybe Delta only weakens when it puts its foot down on the tarmac at BKK.

Or maybe Thailand, India and other third world countries haven't a clue what's going on by restricting testing and lying through their teeth.

I wonder which one it could be.

Or Asian populations just react differently to this virus than western populations.

I have wondered about that..... Thailand seemed invulnerable to all but the Delta variant.......

Dont get too excited, it might only be IT stores are allowed to open in addition to banks in malls.

The interesting thing is here in Nonthaburi (dark red zone I believe) BIg-C has been fully open and all departments available for shopping for about 2 weeks now. The big mall Central Westgate only Tops market has been open.

As far as I can make out, the vaccine rollout has so far accelerated about as fast as a tortoise riding an overloaded grocer's bicycle.

As far as I can make out that's a terribly predictable and boring comment - not to mention untrue.  Thailand started slowly but has accelerated massively over the last 7-8 weeks.  We're now seeing 600,000 + vaccinations a day which is hugely impressive.  Everyone says the UK did an amazing job but even at their peak in March they could only manage 400 - 500k per day.

Credit where it is due (not that I expect anyone on here to give Thailand credit for anything).

Was thinking exact same, brain dead comment indeed.

Absolutely, if they are accurate they are impressive in Thailand. And what you say wrt UK is also true, they achieved over 700,000 only on one single day, and achieved over 600k only on a handful of days... numbers fell rapidly beyond March. Nevertheless the totals are currently looking good at 88/77% of population over 16 single/double vaccinated. (Note now reported as over 16s, not % of adult population). It is the fact that they got there well ahead of Thailand even getting moving.... let us be optimistic though.

The concept is: if you are not an "at risk" person you aren't likely to have a life threatening illness and therefore be hospitalized.

The at risk people can isolate to protect themselves and relieve the burden on the healthcare system.

I agree....my point is that the 'experts' point out this approach simply doesn't work.....but I have yet to read a reasoned argument supporting their claims.
