Maybe. But, India doesn't rely on foreign tourism for 30% of it's GDP. 

 

Be difficult to convince tens of millions of tourists to visit Thailand if the country's cases are raging AND vaccinations are low.

Good Idea. The people need to work,eat If not all you people with the money may find your self being robbed.  Maybe bloodshed in the streets ! Open up .

One of the first on the opening up list back in Europe, was restaurants with outdoor dining facilities. I have never heard  this being suggested in Thailand??

Surely this should be one of the first measured considered.

The decline in numbers is due to people going home, testing positive at home, treated at home and not being recorded in hospitals... shifting of numbers.

This sounds like a plan to quell the protestors and appease citizens for a fortnight before they smack it right back to where it was in lockdown again !

All the while failing to mention their inadequate vaccine distribution !

This is not Breaking News at all and poor reporting. The wording was "could be relaxed" it could also snow in Bangkok next week and I could also win Lottery, but it won't happen. Could is only a possibility so it is not news.

The number of cases depends on how many people are being tested. Just last week the authorities were bracing themselves for double the cases of Covid. Now this week they are talking it may have peaked because they get one good figure in relation to the others. What they need to do is look at trends from other countries then they will realise that one swallow does not make a summer

Its not that difficult. Its possible to have lockdowns but still keep the masses reasonably happy.

 

Let them buy beer to drink at home, let them look at porn on the internet, let them swim in the condo pool.

I ALSO agree that we could find ourselves right back here (strict lockdown/restrictions) again- VERY QUICKLY…. so… I am cautiously optimistic..

 

I also agree that any “relaxing” is probably going to be gradual… which, I tend to agree with… so, while I’m optimistic, hopeful and feeling better, I also realize that we could go right back to where it is now, literally overnight and any relaxing is going to be slow and gradual…. 

 

but i’m ok with that.. small steps forward … but keep making those steps each week.

The interesting thing is here in Nonthaburi (dark red zone I believe) BIg-C has been fully open and all departments available for shopping for about 2 weeks now. The big mall Central Westgate only Tops market has been open.

As far as I can make out that's a terribly predictable and boring comment - not to mention untrue.  Thailand started slowly but has accelerated massively over the last 7-8 weeks.  We're now seeing 600,000 + vaccinations a day which is hugely impressive.  Everyone says the UK did an amazing job but even at their peak in March they could only manage 400 - 500k per day.

Credit where it is due (not that I expect anyone on here to give Thailand credit for anything).

Absolutely, if they are accurate they are impressive in Thailand. And what you say wrt UK is also true, they achieved over 700,000 only on one single day, and achieved over 600k only on a handful of days... numbers fell rapidly beyond March. Nevertheless the totals are currently looking good at 88/77% of population over 16 single/double vaccinated. (Note now reported as over 16s, not % of adult population). It is the fact that they got there well ahead of Thailand even getting moving.... let us be optimistic though.

I agree....my point is that the 'experts' point out this approach simply doesn't work.....but I have yet to read a reasoned argument supporting their claims.
