Health minister denies Thailand rejected 1m dose Pfizer vaccine donation offered by US

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has denied a report that Thailand failed to respond to a US government offer to donate an additional one million doses of the Pfizer mRNA vaccine to the country.

 

He explained today (Thursday) that there may have been a misunderstanding, saying that protocol dictates that the US State Department must inform the Thai Foreign Ministry, via the US embassy in Bangkok, about the donation and, to date, no such formal notification has been received.

 

He cited the donation of Pfizer vaccine to Thailand in August, saying that the US embassy had notified the Thai Foreign Ministry of the US’s wish to help Thailand in advance.

“[We have] a million doses that are waiting to go but Thailand has not finished the paperwork,” Duckworth said.

“I told the ambassador a month ago that it needs to be completed and they said they are going to go work on it…and in my position, it is very hard for me to go to the President and the national security agency and asked for more vaccines for Thailand when there is a million waiting that can’t be sent.”

Tammy said she had originally asked for the same amount for Indonesia and since there was no delay on documentation with them, Indonesia has now received more than eight million doses.

I would think the first donation made by the U.S. showed what an insult as to what China has been doing and giving since the pandemic. From my interaction with Thais they might feel the same no one unless they have a choice want the the useless stuff the leaders can't answer the call find the paperwork or complete it unless they have a bit of light and that isn't going to happen when they got their head up the butts of the CCP????

 

The goal has always been to monopoly with the use of AZ, accepting more would of Pfizer would only reduce the profit of making AZ, reason they didn't want to join Covax? in the beginning.

Come on, this isn't a request to go to the beach.  Somebody is offering a free one mullion doses of the vaccine all Thais want, you jump on it and don't play the proper channels game.  These folks running the country must really think their citizens are stupid.  Everybody knows that every free dose of Pfizer takes backhander money right out of the pockets of these grifters.  Every day they delay is another day of Chinovac and Asstra Upyourinnica putting illicit money into the pockets of the these thugs.

Anutin still hasn't woken up to the 21st century and doesn't realise that 'misunderstandings' and denials can be shot down with a quick look at the internet. In the past, Thais would believe anything they are told without question, but those days are disappearing as social media spreads the word about the real world and not the fantasy one inhabited by politicians.

TBH I'm still retching that these vaccines would have already saved lives and Anutin is batting around with the most feeble excuses, the US Embassy in Bangkok even mentioned the additional gift back on the 30th July in a press release.

 

"We are also proud to confirm that the United States will provide an additional one million vaccine doses to Thailand – on top of the doses that arrived today – for a total of 2.5 million doses.

 

Our vaccines do not come with strings attached. We are doing this with the singular objective of saving lives and with the full knowledge that none of us are safe until all of us are safe. As such, we are happy to hear the Royal Thai Government has committed to distributing these vaccines equitably to all residents of Thailand and to prioritizing those most at risk."

Let's see. Tammy Duckworth has absolutely no incentive to lie, since this issue is of zero importance to her constituents. Anutin, on the other hand...

 

And just for laughs, let's pretend that the information from this expert in protocol and diplomacy is accurate. Why didn't the Thai ambassador just tell Duckworth "hey, for our internal purposes we kind of need a paper from your Embassy in Bangkok, would you mind providing that"? It would have been sent the next day. But more to the point, someone is publicly offering you a gift worth $30 million that your people desperately need. Why would you sit back and wait silently for the document you want, rather than immediately getting on the phone to the Embassy and asking "we really appreciate the offer, how can we get this done as quickly as possible?"
