Always blame the Farang. Always.

(also charge them double, just because you can, the Thai supreme courts said so).

Spot on. For weeks I had to listen to a male employee at my apartment building yelling, several times a day, within earshot: "Falang Covid, falang Covid...", till I had enough and complained to the manager. - Since then I haven't heard much of him...

Mind you, at the time I had received two doses of Pfizer, wore a mask when outside, and mostly stayed home (when there were 15-20,000 new cases daily), while he, at best, was vaccinated with Sinovac (probably not, as vaccination of Thais was less than 50% then), and didn't wear a mask.

But the thousands of people there already with covid are no big deal?  Do they think this is March 2020 with ~100 cases a day and they're going to trace and test all their contacts?  The pretense over

Story has holes in it like Swiss cheese.  When did they truly arrive in Thailand, were they a group or did they meet up and decide to travel together.  How did they travel from Koh Chang?  so many things that make the story just hard to read and understand.

Exactly. How did all of them just sneak out of the hotel without anyone noticing? How did they just take the ferry without checks (or did they swim to the mainland)?

OMG ... you mean there's people walking around Thailand infected ... ????

... and from 4 different countries.  Oh c r a p ... honey, we need 4 more booster.

Only Buddha knows what variant they are spreading.

The six tourists are:

Arnaud Cachia, 32, from France ... Frarona

Romain Gretten, 32, from France

Marek Bonleckl, 62, from Poland ... Polrona

Krause Tomasz, 51, from Poland

Oleheming Kolstad, 38, from Norway ... Norona

Johan Debernardi, 31, from Switzerland ... Cheeserona

I prefer Ricerona ... the San Francisco treat

On Topic ... that is kind of rude, and the very few molding the minds of locals.  Hopefully made to spend 2 weeks or more in private hospital, then deported.

I think hotels should be adding an additional 1000 security fee to hotel bookings, and have someone shadow the guest until results come back.  And people wonder why voluntary isolation doesn't work.

Absurd isn't it. Make theatre of hunting down these folk simply because they fit the 'foreign threat demographic' yet everyone with a scintilla of sense knows this latest variant is rife and rampant.

They are not being hunted down because they fit the "'foreign threat demographic " what ever that is, they are being hunted because they were supposed to go into quarantine and they did not. They broke  Thai law.

Regardless of if you might agree with it or not it's the law,  According to you  what do you think the Thai authorities should do in such circumstances? say Oh well , boys will be boys. forget about them?

Five countries, if you add Thailand. There are, by official statistics, about 50,000 currently infected* (*not incl. recovered) Thais in Thailand, and a couple foreign tourists, incl. 6 'on the run'. - The public should be on the lookout, and start panicking about those 6!

I'm surprised positive tests don't result immediately being thrown in leg irons...love to see that in the Tourism promo

But as leg  irons  are just a figment of your imagination they won't be tourism promotion material.  You do understand  that don't you?

Seems odd to me that there is a Test & Go hotel in Koh Chang?

Where was their test performed Bangkok, a PTT station in Chonburi, the pier, on the boat, on Koh Chang?

So they arrived at Suvarnabhumi, made their way via van/car, boat to an island - a journey which probably took what, eight plus hours.

They probably gave phone numbers all along the way, could some thai general simply ring their mobile and ask where they are?

So, I guess hotels aren't filing TM.30's <SHOCKER>.

The one that I stayed in the other week was SHA+Plus so most probably qualified for test and go too?

Western foreigners have "bad covid"

I know this might sound crazy, but if you don't like the rules that the Thai government has implemented re: Covid, then DON'T COME HERE.

They tested positive on Tuesday and today is already Saturday. Still not located? Way to go, RTP!

And we eat beef, and drink coffee, and Thais (have to) smell it. So better keep the borders closed!

Maybe they are hiding in Koh Chang's mountains... ????

This would always happen when nothing happened to that Isreali guy who did the same.

Do try to keep up ...

Immigration police have taken him into custody for deportation, Pol Col Duangchote said."

And are you one of those "the rules shouldn't apply to me" kind of travelers? What's so upsetting to you about my comment? If I don't like the rules of a particular country I simply won't go there. It's about choices and responsibility. Pretty simple.

Update:

Thailand's print media reported this morning that three of the men - the two French men aged 32 and the Polish man aged 65 - had been found at another resort on Koh Chang.

The other three were still being sought.

Yes and now waiting for the, if found, they are in the deep (scatalogical reference of choice) crowd.

Of course, those comments will include many other references to how bad these people are...but alas the story still has holes in it now that 3 were found at another resort on Koh Chang.  As I asked before when did they arrive in Thailand etc...

All from the same hotel that happened to test positive after presumably testing negative before leaving their countries?   Wonder what the odds of that happening are?  Sounds a bit fishy to me.

I would say collecting 200 folks together in Europe, 72 hours after a negative test (or fake test), flying them 1/2 way around the world and still expecting zero to be infected, is the long odds.

Google translate as usual inadequate, but the gist seems to be they've been found and are being moved to new quarantine location.

I don't think there is/was a T&G facility in Koh Chang.

What may have happened is that they entered via T&G, initial test was negative, released from T&G, travelled on to Koh Chang and while there had their required day 5-7 test which came back positive  but by then they had moved on.

There is no rule or procedure in place requiring people to stay put while awaiting result of the day 5-7 repeat PCR.

I just had mine done yesterday (day 5 after entering in T&G). I was told when I could pick up the results (if I wanted), there was no mandatory follow up appointment and no discussion of my future whereabouts.

In other words these people may have done nothing at all wrong.

Government when it added the Day 5-7 PCR requirement needed to have included some requirement re follow up and tracing. But they did not.

Here's a better translation from a local source:

All 6 foreign Covid cases from Koh Chang were located. They all claimed not been informed that they were positive.  Now been in process.

"The acting district chief in Koh Chang in the central east of Thailand said that they are seeking six European men who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday."

Selfish scumbags!  ????

What is the point of the TM30 if they can't use it to find 6 people staying in hotels (which must submit a TM30 for every guest on arrival)

That (TM30)  is probably how they were found.

The reported "search" consisted of contacting immigration who looked in the TM30 database.

Nothing to see here.

I wonder when the test results came back.

I find it hard to believe that they were notified that they tested positive and then 'did a runner', this all sounds strangely familiar to another case that happened recently.

How long did the test results take to come back?

Seems to me there must be some serious issues at the hotel when someone tests positive in keeping an eye on them after then. Did they check out ? Do a runner ? I would have thought with all the panic the hotel would have had armed guards stationed outside the room the minute a positive test came in. What's the time between positive and removal from hotel to quarantine hospital on a test and go , you'd think it immediate ?  there is more to this than the hotel is saying I think and the hotel could well be covering something up. Seems very odd people of three different nations would all do a runner at the same time - odds on they'll be found and say they were told they were negative and could go
