“He goes to Thailand for months at a time to see his girlfriend. He goes there whenever he can and always seems to have a good time.

“He’s a nice fella but he’s private and keeps himself to himself. I’ve lived two doors away from him for five years but I don’t know him, only to say hello to, because he’s often away.”

For someone who posted to profess no interest or concern in this story (I see you deleted that post), your incessent posting and character assassinations are raising concerns about your own mental welfare.   Seriously, get a grip of yourself.

The photo in the OP is what Thais think gives Western tourists confidence.   They could not be more out of touch if they tried.

  • Who mentioned the Thai Police are overstaffed ?

  • And protected by a SWAT team, the 22 year old must be a real danger.   "Tourism officials have visited the injured man in hospital"    To ask his opinion on how his holiday was goi

Did that include patient analysis and diagnosis by reviewing their Facebook posts and photos, with a final exam in newspaper report detail and how to share all this to anonymous internet forums?

The drinking wasn't the ******* problem, it was the ******* racket they were creating that was the problem.

Perhaps mourning the passing of Meatloaf (RIP) by playing 'Bat Out Of Hell' over and over......that'll do it!

What?

Thai logic.

"If they hadn't had come to Thailand this wouldn't have happened."

Is an excuse used numerous times by guilty Thais. Traffic accidents is the most famous and commonly used instance.

Often spoken in Thai but rarely translated in front of the innocent farang. You must be blessed if it hasn't crossed your path.

However, focusing on a beer is irrelevant, people are perfectly capable of having a beer without being hooligans.

Not at 3.20 in the morning.

Do you suddenly turn loud and obnoxious after drinking ???  of course some do, not not many with whom I associate get any louder or become inconsiderate because of the beer....

This is not the first time that mental illness has been invoked to conceal the local xenophobia maintained even by ministers.

In the other thread on this subject, a guy who is married to the sister of the wife of one of the two victims (can’t remember if it is the deceased or injured) mentioned that the ‘murderer’ is known locally, is mentally unstable and should not be out without supervision.

I wish to add to this grotesque story . I have lived in Thailand eight years in the same house and have taken note that the local Thais reduce  there noise level to zero after 11 pm . I of course follow suit .

The deceased and the injured friend has had a punishment that does not fit the crime can you say .

My deepest condolences to the deceased family .

Bangkok was once famous  and celebrated for its vibrant nightlife and exteneded drinking hours - who remember the tables and chairs which would pop up along Sukhumvit and open at midnight so the night owls could keep on drinking, partying and socializing till the sun rose and the office workers came out?

I understand it was a residential area, but this fixation with the volume of the music and the lateness of the drinking as some sort of justification for murder is shameful. The rightwing loonies seem to have taken TVF.  If music and late drinking is justification for murder then something seriously is worng with teh society in which we live.

Neeranam - not pointing this at you or suggesting you are a right wing loony ????

Ms Muanchit told the Sun: 'I looked in his eyes. I was still so angry at him. I asked him ''why did you kill my husband?''

'I said I was very angry at him. I said ''why couldn't you talk or ask nicely? You could have told me or told the police, but you shouldn't have killed him''

due to his disabilities he doesn't know right from wrong and people playing music after 3am should know better .. its a sad story  for everyone

Because I am involved in this through family ties, there has been a lot of inaccurate 'facts' put out by many sources. For a start the killer used to get smokes and beers from the party that is still alive!!. Another expat there let the killer use their wifi!!. Because of the ongoing case I will not publish more facts, but I feel sure that these will come to light.????????????????

There was a small wireless speaker on the stone table outside, so you're right, I doubt it could have been that loud as they were both only a couple of feet from the speaker.

It was not that loud. Other expats living in the same block did not hear it!!

There is nothing 'nebulous and subjective' about whether someone is suffering from mental health problems. Professional psychiatrists are trained to spot the fakers and the 'faker' would have to be a next level genuis (which I'm guessing is not the case here) to get away with claiming mental health problems when there isn't any.

Like ALL civilised countries, committing crimes whilst not in control of your faculties is viewed very differently from someone who is completely sane and in full knowledge of what they are doing. If someone is suffering genuine mental health problems then they should get the help they need, or if that doesn't work, be locked up in a mental institution for the rest of their lives. Any desire for vengance or retribution should take a back seat to what is the right thing to do in a civilised society.

The truth about the killers problems and why will come out. Fortunately through contacts and locals.????????????

"These are clearly first and middle names, notes ASEAN NOW. Other information circulating online and unconfirmed suggested the decease had the surname Evans and is 49"

The BBC are reporting that the Royal Thai Police have confirmed the the deceased guy is Marcus Evans, 49, who was originally from Weston-super-Mare and has been in Thailand for five years, and the injured guy is Shaun Dagnan, 54, who has been in Thailand for three years and is from Nuneaton.

No one deserves what happened, but to be so arrogant that you think you can <deleted> off neighbours with loud music late into the night then you are asking for trouble, Thais are liable to shoot you for road rage, they kill each other over jealousy, my friend has been in the middle of 2 killings by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he witnessed a shooting in a night club where the guy behind his table shot dead another guy at the table in front of him, then another murder a few months later at a market where a man hacked a guy close to him with a machete, so why push things, all expats know about this rage, people have been shot over arguing over a few Bhat with a taxi driver

Except perhaps in extreme cases, the concept of "mental health" is somewhat nebulous and subjective.

Hope the mental health issue doesn't allow this 22 year-old to walk (and re-offend) after a token stint in jail.

That’s exactly what will happen

Correct.

mental health evaluation of the suspect is underway.

I can well believe that at the time that his mental health and stress levels were threw the roof. 4 am with loud music blaring for hours on end, it’s easy to completely loose control. Just because they were drunk Brits doesn’t make it special. Question is did he contact the police and if he did did they respond?

music might not have been that loud since who in their right minds wants to shout above music to be heard for several hours

Thais do it all the time. Bigger the speakers the better boomboom  boom boom. Can seriously drive you crazy

Tourism Officials Visited …. Think it would have been better if it had been the Ghost Busters

Am thinking about some fruit baskets ,with gift vouchers maybe some Thai traditional dances?

This......

But, ultimately this... the music was not loud enough for ‘other’ residents to hear it.

Thus, is this ‘excuse’ something made up by the media themselves and every ‘victim blamer’ on this (and the other) thread is clinging on to the ’booze & loud music’ story to explain some form of trigger ??
