One wonders about the Russians in Thailand and elsewhere. Will they have access to their funds in Russia? They must be very worried about being stranded without funds to support them.

They will be collateral damage of the totally uneccesary war started by their dictator. I do feel sorry for those that are not complicit with this evil madness.

Did you not see what Saddam Hussein  did to his people during his 24 year rain.  Text book Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and more.  Illegal  or not he needed to be removed.  The war wasn't  against Iraq, it was against Saddam Hussein and his thugs.

Then, why so many Iraqis had to die, many tortured, cities demolished, refugee flow to outside world? When it was just for the tyrant removal.

Russia first sends young soldiers who are no more than 25 years old.

How old are the soldiers in other countries?  Or they are not soldiers, they are servicemen. How old are they? Just curious...

this also guarantees NO  RUSSIAN TOURIST  NOW!!

Didn't they start the WW2? And the others had to end it as we heard from the WH speech to the 75 years commemoration of V-day?

I think your 'marred by allegations of fraud and protests' statement. And   Putin making it impossible to remove him supports my opinion. Anyone attempting to appose him is quickly arrested and incarcerated.

Swift blocking is now activated for Russian banks

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/02/26/ukraine-news-russia-war-invasion-nato-putin-zelensky-latest/

The US, Britain, Europe and Canada on Saturday moved to block 'certain' Russian banks from accessing the Swift international payment system as part of another round of sanctions against Moscow.

The measures, which will also include restrictions on the Russian central bank's international reserves, will be implemented in the coming days, the nations said in a joint statement

Only banks involved in payments for NG will not be blocked.

I see th Russian owner of Chelsea football club 0 funded by Russian money - is trying to distance himself from the running of te club. The fact is, he is a close associate of Putin. These people will be subject to sanctions in the near future.

Thailand needs to figure out how much Russian money is in the country and how the international community will react to this - there will undoubtedly be pressure from the West to join in sanctions.

Good old Boris is probably salivating over this war as his chance to act like his hero Churchill

Boris, Brexit and the Tories are all financed by Russian money - he now finds himself facing an embarrassing conundrum....... his ego wants to emulate Churchill (he's no Churchill) but he has lied to parliament, the Queen and the electorate and is being investigated by the police - he hopes that this war will divert attention from this but in reality it may well bite him in the neck.

Thailand needs to think about how changes in leadership or governments in Europe will affect them....... the economies of Uk and EU will suffer as energy prices soar and things like the price of bread goes through the roof - this will mean less tourists from Europe so any recovery from Covid slump will be slower than hoped.

The war itself is likely to trigger a world recession - oil prices have already leapt and other commodities are following.

russia as an economy exports nothing much other than fossil fuels and as that supply is shut down and banking sanctions cut in, Thailand will notice a slump in Russian tourism too.

as for the 'carnage" - one has to realise that in certain areas, expats are not only amongst the most vulnerable they are also amongst the most dangerous. Their poor driving puts both themselves and others at risk.

not for long when the public realise how close he has been to Russia. Cameron warned Brexit could trigger a war and the "Russian Report" - will be published in full.... Boris will have a lot of explaining to do.

It has taken 4 days, but at last the serious sanctions are starting - swift, no overflights, cutting sporting events and Germany has even said that they will try to phase out Russian Gas ..... And that they will at last spend 2% of GDP on defence. But in reality all this is to late and makes no difference at this stage.

Weapons will help, but deploying and training troops in their use will take time. But Ukraine has claimed to have shot down 50 aircraft and helicopters, and destroyed over 500 armoured vehicles (cannot really verify those figures). But it does seem some of the Russian troops are just conscripts driving straight into ambushes, which is why no major city has fallen yet. Maybe, just maybe, the invasion is not going to plan.

But if so, the gloves will probably come off and total war will start. The west needs to get a lot tougher if they really want to stop it.

The best case scenario for the effect of the Ukraine war is that Russian tourists won't be able to afford to come to Thailand. Hip...hip.......

If their funds are based in Rubles, they have substantially less or no value.

Do your own search. There are plenty of examples. Even on BBC World News today

Do you truly believe everything what is in BBC World News? Without mentioning plenty of examples - I rather would not dare to point out - have you ever read in such media anything positive about Russia?

But perhaps there is nothing positive to report of, is it?
