People who are not medical experts decrying masks are looking at their own selfish desires. Not unusual I suppose.

Last night I had dinner with two friends, one of whom asked in advance if I could wear a mask and arrange a table outside the restaurant in the garden. He explained that his young son has a heart defect and catching Covid could be fatal. Of course I agreed and took an ATK test in the morning to lower the concern of the father.

The point is, we don’t do these things for ourselves and our “freedumb” but for others who might catch it from us and die. Try thinking of others not yourselves.

How did you eat dinner with your mask on?   Granted, I may not be a medical expert but a typical face mask has holes in it large enough for the virus to get through very easily, but are 100% effective at preventing eating/drinking.   Every one I have tried has been extremely effective at preventing even the smallest morsel of food from getting through though so it would have been required for you to remove the mask whilst eating.

If his son was really in such danger who is being selfish here?    The father for wanting to eat in a restaurant despite the risks to his son or you for joining him?    Is your "freedumb" to eat in a restaurant so important to you that you willingly put someones life at risk?   Meeting friends over zoom calls is proven to be 100% safe from covid - why would you not choose this option when hearing about how much danger his son could be in?    Try thinking of others in future rather than just yourself.

Here come the anti mask wearing commentstors again. Get off your high horses and wear them as your asked.  Keep one in your pocket...  It's not fearmongering, it's reality.

  • Enough already. IMHO, it should be optional. If people want to wear them, knock themselves out. The world is moving on and this fear mongering needs to stop. Reality is there will always be a variant

Another flip-flop from Thailand again.

What next? Close the borders and reinstate Thailand Pass?

Come on, we have to live with the virus, this can't go on for another 10 years.

I noticed that Thai eatery owners like to put fans right next to dining table.

Don't they know that the virus gets spread farther if someone sneezes when the fan blows. They don't even know why there is social distancing in the first place.

I did explain to them not to put fans blowing, but they couldn't understand how virus spreads.

Mask mandate will help slow the spread of the virus in the community.  Not stop it, just slow it.  This buys time but is not a solution in itself.

What is the long term plan, and do masks make a material difference in succeeding in that plan?

One would presently suggest a vigilant approach to full vaccination of the community will achieve sufficient results.  I think this is where all the medical attention should be focused.

So do you see the virus as a single capable entity like a wasp, dragonfly or mosquito? And once it makes it's way easily through the chicken wire of a mask, it takes to the wing again?

You have been spouting this nonsense for so long now....

Nor with 2 vaccinations and 3 or 4 boosters.

Since I can't depend on those a mask may be the only option left....

Best to just stay indoors for the unforeseeable future, and order everything you need from Grab. Be safe!

As if the masks actually work. Studies now around the world show that they stop less than 30% of the virus. My sister-in-law’s brother was super paranoid. He wears a mask, face shield over the mask, blue plastic gloves. He got fully vaccinated plus boosters. And then he was totally shocked to still get Covid.  So much for masks, face shield and blue rubber gloves protecting him.

You need at MINIMUM..an N-95 filtering respirator with no valve, to make any meaningful difference .  That’s science.

I didn’t go to my sister-in-law’s brother’s extreme. But I WAS wearing my mask and was double vaccinated and one booster…and got Covid five days after my first booster.  So much for masks protecting me.

Your mask is not protecting that kid.

There are so many viruses….and kids are much much more resistant to Covid than adults are. That’s science.
The common Flu would be much more deadly to him if it effects people with some sort of heart defect.

If he is that sensitive…. then the kid should be enveloped in a plastic body shield with a built in air filtration system. He should not be outside. He should be living in a “bubble room” to shield him from bacteria and viruses.

Gutter journalism written by a hack to perpetuate fear paranoia and suspicion

What are you banging on about? Did you even read it? Doctors are named including a leading professor and the govt health minister?

Here come the pro-masking commentators again. Get off your high horses and wear them if you want, but don't push your beliefs on others. Keep ten in your pocket and wear two on your face, and stop being crybabies because others disagree with you.

Your fear mongering is unreal.

That might be fine if the poor delicate souls who do not wish to wear masks did not spout off about how they are of no benefit and ineffectual; and even in some cases detrimental. That is clearly not the case and spouting such lies may even cost lives. That is untenable.

Problem is, like smoking, it affects others who are innocent.

Your ignorance is astounding......

I have no problem being out and about in a society that takes a few precautions.

Clearly I was stating that corona virus particles are smaller than the pores in the typical face mask so can get through the aforementioned pores, but are not so big that you can consume food/drink through them so going to a restaurant means removing the mask.   This is a factual point before I went on to make my overall point.   My overall point (since you did not quote this) was that someone was calling others selfish who actually went to a restaurant with the father of a child who thinks that child could die if he catches covid.    If I knew someone who was in such terrible danger from Covid I would not assume a face mask would be 100% effective, would not go to a venue where a mask would be required to be removed, and would do the unselfish thing by playing it safe and using zoom instead.

Why don't you try addressing the actual point for a change instead of just quoting a small, out of context sentence?  Give it a try sometime.

And is that the complete story wrt mask efficacy (against Covid transmission)? No it is clearly not, so banging on about it repetitively is a backwards argument and an irrelevant point.

And I do not need to be told I have to take a mask off to eat... and drink, nobody on this whole forum does so another moronic point!

Nor does anyone believe face masks are 100% effective  at preventing Covid transmission so another foolish point from you! Perhaps like bullet proof vests, but I likely would still consider one in some situations.

Make relevant points and I may waste more of my time, but it would be  wasted .... I have made similar points a multitude of times and am sure you will, for the umpteenth time, tell us again the Covid virus is smaller than 'pores' in face masks! Yeh.....

I think the interesting thing here is that Thais and those of us in LOS were wearing masks long before covid.  PM 2.5 colds flu etc.

While I know that the government has lowered the mandatory I still do not see a decrease in the number of people wearing masks.  I personally think that in large areas like BTS and shopping malls it is a god thing.

AZs an aside I was at tip top friday and all the girls as soon as they came in had to do an ATK test.  I think this is also the case at the kings castle.

Now we have no mandate, and yet most people still wear the mask (I'd say over 90% in CM). To reinstate the mandate would have no tangible effect. Either the prominent doctors want their moment in the news, or someone wants excuses to continue a state of emergency which has no justification.

If I was going to meet the father of a child who was in such terrible danger they would die if they caught covid then a 100% effective mask would be the bare minimum I would feel comfortable in using before meeting him.   Anything less I would consider to be selfish.

No, it is to pull the "tools" into line who never wear s mask, you know, the ones that end up in hospital or worse......????

Well you can't so other measures (and behaviors) would be necessary. It should  include mask wearing as a component.

The first culprit WHO should point the finger at is themselves, starting with their egregious director general.

Sounds like you are in agreement with me then.   The only 100% safe (from covid) option for that situation would be a zoom call instead of a physical meeting, and attending the restaurant was a selfish act by the original poster who was calling other people selfish.   Glad we finally got that cleared up.

Even you cannot believe that everyone who "never wear's a mask" will end up in hospital and therefore by implication that those who do wear a mask will not end up in hospital.

I continue to say it is up to the individuals what they do or do not do in a free society.

Who said everyone....?

The wearing of masks is for those in the medical field to advise authorities one way or the other, not for know nothing Joe Bloggs to spout his bar stool thoughts.

PS. I am not inferring you are Joe Bloggs though....????

It's up to the Thai people if they want to wear the face mask ????

Not Tourists coming on holiday telling them its wrong to

Their Country their rules

I will carry on wearing  except when out side on  the walking area

Plenty of space and fresh air ????

The entire world is over this.

But not LOS.

Someone hasn't been reading the world's infection statistics. No way is the whole world over this. Granted that Omicron (and sons of Omicron) are milder versions of Covid 19 but the sheer increase in numbers is once once again filling up available hospital beds.
