A few more details of this case would not go amiss. What did the bank staff do? What  punishment did they receive from the court for their part in the 200MB granny grab.? Are they still working for Kasikorn Bank.............same branch or moved to some rural upcountry branch?

I uncovered a bank worker stealing interest from foreigners and got a former minister of finance to investigate.

I was successful in getting the large bank to start giving many foreigners interest but was told if I asked to get it backdated, the woman would lose her job. Reluctantly, I never asked for back payments.

every single thing here is about money, true... even the girls who are with 75 years old men and when they are having a meal she even don't look at his face (playing with her new iPhone that he bought ) when he is talking..but when the bill comes...she pass it to him.

That says more about you, where you socialize and who you hang out with.

The daughter would have got a proportion of the money when Mum kicked it anyway.

Bht 207 M is a LOT of money for an older lady to have sitting in the bank.

It's a lot for anyone to have sitting in the bank - $A9,000,000 (Australian)!

So much for this one Thai respecting her elder, she is not representative of Thais in general.

Indeed.

It's like me watching the Netflix thing about Jeffrey Dahmer and saying, "so much for Yanks only eating animals".

But the woman should have lost her job. Why did you back down?!

Surely it's a criminal offence. They should not only be out of work but in prison.

The sum of money involved is eye watering

But when greed is involved there is no honour amongst  thieves ????

Family included ????

She was the friend of the director of the school my daughter was at. I actually got fired for revealing the crime but I thought if I took it further it wouldn't be good on my daughter's education.

That goes out of the window where money is concerned.

Justice here is done differently to the West.

Thailand is a corrupt third world country where you can trust no one, not even your Thai wife. So beware.

I hope you're not married to a Thai if you think this; what a ridiculous thing to say, do you live in Pattaya or something?

There should be prison time for the criminals. This is a major problem with Justice in Thailand. It seems the Judges don't punish many criminals, they just try to return things the way were before the crime. There should be major punitive damages awarded.

Yes I referenced that at the end of my post ....why no criminal charges ,

as it looks to me a few have been committed.

Things like that only happen if a complaint is made to the police.

The question of why no complaint was made would have a few interesting answers methinks.

Years back it was common to see many Thais on the street with bank book in top pocket.

I asked a colleague about it. He laughed, and said 'they keep their book handy so every day it's easy to pop into the bank and get the balance updated, because they don't trust the bank'.

If you own a gun you can rob a bank but if you own a bank you can rob everyone.

I think the daughter got 20 years if you look at the original Web page.. Not sure about the others. That's a lot of laundry sacks to sew.

No doubt the apologists will be here to defend this but from my opinion of 20 years within Thailand, when it comes to money many people have little morals. This story just highlights this and confirms what I have seen and know.

From my experience, there are mostly small scammers in Thailand. Sometimes fun to watch how inexperienced they are. Nothing compared to those in the western world. That's where the biggest scammers are. Bernie Madoff for instance. But their are countless others. Some of them are even big companies.

One wonders if the daughter will wash the mothers feet and hair during this years Songkran festival or whether she will be washing someone else's from inside a prison.

the banks have always been good at that they apply charges to the accounts for the slightest thing and don't give interest on the balance.

And close the account and keep the money if you don't use the account for a certain length of time - robbers!

Doesn't say much for your daughter's school director, your boss or the morality of people who put social ties ahead of honesty.

If mum is worth 200 million baht, the daughter won't be short of a baht nor the contacts required to ensure she avoids prison time. There is seldom justice to be found when dealing with the crimes of the Thai rich.

And he pays handing the bill folder to a member of staff. Yet when the change, if any, comes the staff pass it to her. That really pisses me off.

This was a civil, not criminal case, there are no sentences due, nor judgements of guilt, just a court order.

Very cosy for the bank , but should the bank not press charges on  the staff that have stolen a customer's funds ?

Banks are legally dishonest. its allowed. look at what they give as interest and what they earn. the margins are indeed dishonest.

she might ask the staff to inflate the bill and get more change than deserved.

The defendants were the bank itself, four of its staff and the victim's second child, her daughter Mawadee Sririrat.

Should have had an abortion on the second pregnancy...
