Hello gents,

 

New to Thailand for work. Been reading where to date to find a decent girl, and everyone seems to warn against dating bar girls, which seems to be girls that work in a bar.
However, the other day I went to grab a beer with a coworker at a staple western looking Bar on Ekkamai, and I saw one or two attractive (but nothing over the top) girls alone sitting and sipping a beer. Would they also be considered as "bar-girl"? Or just having a beer after work of sorts.

IF you are getting hung up on ’terminology’..   Bar-Girl doesn’t mean a girl in a bar (any normal bar), it means a girl who works in a bar to attract male customers (i.e. for want of a better description, a hooker in a bar). 

 

What you are asking is to pigeon hole females into ‘bar girl / non bar-girl’ categories in a ‘black and white’ manner...  when in reality there are a myriad of shades on the spectrum... 

 

The forum misogynists will be along shorty to tell you that you always pay for it one way or another anyway, so what the difference etc etc...

any girl that drinks..........bar girl.    older, ex-bar girl.

If she works in a bar and she's a girl, she's a bar girl.  If she's a customer in a bar, she's not a bar girl.  However, either could be a prostitute, which is presumably what you're asking about.

There are plenty of middle-class, middle-aged woman who have professional careers (not the "oldest profession).  Bars and massage shops have lots of woman who will treat you like a king as they milk your ATM and lead you around by your d***.

Virtually all woman world-wide are 'for sale.'  You just need to understand the nature of the type of remuneration they desire.

 

Simples for me, a bargirl is a hooker who works out of a bar, usually employed by one bar and plys her trade from there.

 

If she is not employed by the bar but still hooking then she is a "freelancer".

These days it seems covered with nasty tattoos and teeth braces they think are cute ???? Sometimes look at the pics of them on the stickman site and wonder why anyone would be desperate enough to pay for any of them.

Bargirl is more a state of mind than where they work. Any woman that only views you as an ATM machine, the thinking is it's best to stay away from that type.

bargirl = candle wax - they will melt into whatever you want... for a fee. 

Op,if you see a girl you are attracted to just go talk to her.

Just take it from there and go with the flow,lots of very nice girls every where in Thailand.

Walk over and offer to pay for their drinks is the easiest way.

Why worry about their occupation?

 

I was in a crowded bar in Seam Reap with a couple of pals.

3 local ladies walked in and sat down, I called the waitress over and said 'give those girls each a beer' (big spender as beer was 50c/glass). 30 seconds later the girls were sitting on our laps.

 

I walked into an empty bar in Seam Reap with a pal, he went to the toilet, I ordered the beers. Girl was sitting alone on another table with a beer, I smiled, she smiled, and I asked if I could pay for her drinks. She's sitting with me by the time my pal comes out of the toilet. He says 'How'd you manage to find a girl in an empty bar that fast" .............

 

You just gotta take the chance when you see a girl you like, if they're not interested they'll just say no. It's not like the west where they call you names and then complain to the bar manager. Asian girls are very friendly and approachable.

I heard it can also be a show of wealth.  Seems insane to me.  Perhaps they aren't tight like real braces and don't actually move the teeth, so no discomfort from that.  You still get some that whose lips stick out uncomfortably though.

 

One of the most bizarre "fashion trends" I think I've ever encountered.  Outside the ridiculous "body modification" (please, please stare at me and find me interesting because I'm empty/dead inside) thing.

Good grief, what level of society do you occupy?

 

Plenty of English-speaking people in professional occupations.

My partner, senior accountant, worked with multinationals through internship and post-graduation, now deals on a daily basis with companies in Japan, Germany, Malaysia all in the common business language, English. As do her colleagues and friends.

I don't expect any were working as bar girls prior to accountancy, law, pharmacy and dentist careers. Daughter #1 graduated last year, double major in Employment Law and HR Management, and you may be surprised to be told she speaks English too.

I love cute girls with cute braces.

Depends on the bar, and if 'employed' by the bar, and more importantly, maybe, where the bar is located.  If an 'adult' entertainment district; Bangla, Soi 4, Soi Cowbay, then probably yes.  As a non working gal wouldn't be sitting there sipping, or desire the company of anyone that frequents that area.

 

Saying that, not all gals working at all or any bar is for rent.  I know a few that worked at bars, and you'd couldn't offer them enough for them to entertain you.  Not that they wouldn't, but the offer of money, would probably result in a hospital visit for you, if persistent. 

 

Assuming the OP wants to meet a gal, and more comfortable in an alcohol setting, go to one that doesn't cater to foreigners.   Personally never understood the attraction of 'hooker' bars, except for killing time and people watching, as usually some nice eye candy in the late afternoon, early evening.  After that it's all business and nothing that interests myself.

 

I'll take a Thai music venue bar/club, over most things geared toward foreigners.

One of my favorite bar girls is an accountant. She said the salary was just not enough to afford a decent school for her son. She found a rich sponsor who pays the school. 

Never make assumptions !

Make a reasonable educated decision based on what you "know" not on what youve heard or on appearances.Take the time to find out, you'll know soon enough and whatever that may be may fit your needs at that time, only you  will know that.

It seems you think prostitutes only work in farang oriented bars and not in bar and restaurants and karaoke places which Thai people visit. Who gave you that idea?

The girls is what you think they are. Some is good girls, some is not. Not different from where you come from, just use your common sense, thats all! 

 

Then the question is, what is common sense? If you do not know by now, then it is to late.
