Do you have any goals in life?

hello asean now members. its been a while since I last made a thread here..

so I recently knocked the drink on the head. I'm coming up to a week of sobriety and for me that is a miracle.

I usually drink every day but it was getting out of hand.

I'm now working on a new project and i'm hoping that will fill the void that alcohol used to occupy.

my plan is to never drink another drop again.

lofty idea and i certainly know the pitfalls of such an action but I think i can do it.

only time will tell. I may need to go on a short course of benzos later this month to help me over the line.

i guess the point of this thread is what, if any, goals do you guys have in life?

what makes you want to get out of bed in the morning?

I personally think that it is important to set yourself goals throughout the day/week or you just end up in a state of stagnation.

hope everyone is well on this fine wednesday morning.

much love
Bob.

  • If there is one thing more boring than a drunk it's somebody who gave up drinking, they never stop going on about it and telling you how long it is since they gave it up.

I gave up smoking many years ago, never had a another cigarette again (over 30 years)

I gave up the drink for a year, after the first few weeks it was easy. I now drink again but in moderation.

I find monitoring my blood pressure, using an app to monitor my movement and generally trying to be "weller" helps me.

Run a marathon , it will change your life forever , no matter how out of condition you are , no matter that you have never ran in your life or how slowly you run , if you set your mind to doing it and through willpower and determination , anyone can achieve their goal and the feeling of accomplishment will live with you forever. Last Sunday I completed my 26th full marathon at age 69.. go on , you can do it!

What gets me out of bed in the morning is AN, can't wait to read all the negative comments.

Bob, if you can stop drinking all together, all and good for your health, if not, moderation is key, I have never been a big drinker, but I do like to sink one or two cold ones (small), but not everyday.

Thailand is full of <deleted> heads, and a fair few dying from it.

My biggest goal is to stay alive for as log as my pecker can keep rising because I still have a few numbers to put on the board, when and if the day comes that me pecker stops rising, then I will be happy to be laid to rest, and no, I don't want or need any gels or pills and am still going strong, which reminds me, I got to make a call.......

Goals.

Relocate back to uk in the next 3/4 years.

Stop surfing porn over 3 hours a day.

Try and only drink at social events.

Instead of giving up booze why not just drink sensibly. In your 70s/80s a small drink now and again is one of the few pleasures you have left. My only goal now is to keep breathing.

Fact is , it's very easy to give up drinking. I know, I've done hundreds of times already.

As for a goal I would like to achieve ....for me , to do the Cape Wrath Trail would be a huge dream fulfilled.

Wanted to go there since I was a teenager but spent my life abroad. Going for a home visit in April and am tempted to give it a go but at 65 would probably be too much. That plus to buy all the hiking gear from scratch plus getting to the start point at Fort William then back again to the Isle of Wight could easily cost 600 pounds or more. Might have a few bottles of wine and a walk along the beach instead.

Only goal is having a happy life with my family. For that, the only thing I had to give up is sex with strangers...

Good luck Bob ,there's more to life than looking at it through the bottom

of a glass, i am nearing the end of my life , but pleased I did nearly everything

I set myself as a young lad , see the World , end up living somewhere tropical,

and work hard ,do well, and retire early (42) ,there are a couple of more places

I would like to visit , but doubt I can get there ,but best to keep a few things left

you hope to do ,otherwise not a lot to live for......

Don't think you can have both.

One of them has got to give up first.????????

Well staying as healthy as you can without having to roll out a list, your live longer I guess.

Fair call but my Mum recently had a fall  had to give her home up, and has been put into an aged care facility.

91 years young and I am told she is just skin and bone.

A good old high school buddy and I decided to try and walk all  252 miles of the blue ridge parkway in the state of North Carolina at age 72.  We walked ten miles a day and after about 26 days of walking (not consecutively but spread over 3 months) we reached milepost 469 near Cherokee NC .  Looking back it was one of the best things ever.  We had a great time rehashing lot of old high school memories, we enjoyed spectacular views, nature, a variety of weather, camping out etc...and in between various legs we plotted and planned the next legs.  And yes we also enjoyed a few beers at night but felt we had "earned them".

Bottom line is if you can break out of whatever rut you are in and do something that makes you happy and a bit healthier I think you will never ever look back and say "gee i wish i had not done that".  Find some sort of adventure or goal whether it is learn Thai, do some volunteer work, play more golf or whatever.....the longest journey begins with the first step.  Just take it.

Have a guess what single mindedly amassing copious amounts of money usually turns a person into?
