She said she was driving a Honda City sedan and was totally unaware of the roadwork taking place in the area.

Maybe she shouldn't drive a car then

As a result, Ms. Areeya collided her vehicle with the construction site, resulting in significant damage to her car. S

This is Thailand, you know what construction sites are like on the roads...

Driver beware.

Irrespective of what you may think of the poor student's driving skills, those blocks placed in the center of Thepprassit Road to prevent u-turns are dangerous and my prediction is they will be removed at some point. I was discussing them with a retailer there last week and mentioned it would cause a lot of accidents. At the very least, the barrier should have been lit up at night. In this case she really does have a good point and council should share responsibility.

Totally agree. Dividing the road like this is incredibly dangerous. If a motorbike, car, pedestrian or whatever comes out in front of you you've only two options, crash into them or swerve right into the insanely stupidly placed barrier to avoid a potentially fatal collision, and rip the underside of your vehicle off, as this lady discovered, and suffer a horrible accident yourself.

I went shopping today on Thepprasit. No more right turn into Lotus, no right turn into Ratanakorn Market, almost all access to right turnsinto side roads and shops blocked, no right into the 2 gas stations from the opposite side etc etc etc. And looks like they're putting in traffic light on the junction with Soi 6 or 8, not sure which.

Somebody from City hall apparently came down and checked it after numerous complaints, but all they've done is to open a few metre wide gaps. The SUVs can hardly get round in a single U turn. City hall claimed there were numerous accidents on Thepprasit prior to this but quoted no figures. It's just scandalous!

Thais want to copy western countries with those ridiculous islands.

They will need proper driver education and competency testing, a proper police force and enforcement of the existing laws first.

All fart and no stink here in Thailand.

How many other cars have passed before and since, without incident? she seems to be the only one out of thousands to hit it, now send her the bill to repair the concrete.

I see it as possibly a dual negligence matter.  She failed to take due care when driving.  The construction company perhaps failed to follow roadwork requirements to set up visible signs, reflective barriers, etc.

Not to worry, she just needs to find one of the 'dime a dozen' SIMPS that will throw money at any young lady with looks.

I hope you are not a road user:coffee1:

90% her fault but those low level concrete blocks are a total menace. There will be dozens of accidents until they are removed. Isn't the financial responsibility down to her insurers?

Hopefully, insurance does not pay for obvious negligence, otherwise all correct drivers will pay for such inept drivers and insurance fees will go up and up...... !

They won't be going away. It's 100% her fault, the concrete didn't move. Thais want to copy western countries with those ridiculous islands. They built those islands on a major highway in UD, serious accidents happened.

Want a bet? They will be removed for 2 good reasons: 1. They are dangerous. 2. They interfere with local business and many retailers have objected to them.

Did you look at the photo?  It is a permanent curb in the median to keep people from crossing the road there.

I'm well aware of it - I drive there every day. It's not permanent - I'll put money on it.

I put 200 on heavy tint on the windows.

I'd normally think this could be a factor, but from the picture in the dark you can easily see through her windscreen. Looking through the windscreen, you can even see through the passenger side windows.

Trying to do a u-turn?

Those dividers will work but they need to be raised higher, like the ones in Hua-Hin.

Well per another comment it doesn't look like she drifted into the median else she would have bounced back.... I was wondering if there are plans to put bushes or a fence in the middle as they need to  be seen above bonnet height.

She was distracted (either drunk or phone) and drifted into the median... good thing it stopped her... she may have hit head on another car coming the other direction and killed them both.

People managed perfectly well until they put those blocks in.

On Threppasit...... not sure about that. Hasn't it been a roadworks nightmare for a few years and bad prior to that?

I doubt it... the curbs were put in in order to stop people from making dangerous turns anywhere that they pleased and to keep traffic flowing... doesn't it amaze you that people in Thailand think it is ok to ignore everyone else when driving... sort of like when they stop for lunch and can't even pull completely off the right of way so that they are not blocking traffic.

You doubt it? Is that supposed to be a convincing reply? Don't tell me. Your guess is... Could be that ... I'll bet 300 on... Even City Hall weren't able to come up with any figures for the alleged accident rate on Thepprasit. The point is, Thepprasit is a highly commercialised road. There are shops and businesses and Sois the whole length of it on both sides of the road. Access to these is now seriously restricted. You have to travel 100s of metres up the road in order to U turn to get back to where you want. Those businesses are going to suffer no end. It's not like Nua which has relatively few commercial establishments. God forbid they try this on Tai or Klang. Or 3rd. In addition, the central reservation takes up valuable road space. It's not a help. It's a hindrance. It's now a major problem, not a solution.

Since you are the authority on the divider please share your divine wisdom... the long range plan please.

You state that the accident is 90 percent her fault and then go on to say how dangerous the construction layout is. That's interesting. You are correct that the financial responsibility should default to her insurance company, unless she has third class insurance that is.

Those barriers will save many people as frustrating as they are when you want to U-turn or take a left.  Thepprasit was a free for all and motorbikes getting run over was common when stopping in the middle to turn.  Watching cyclists extend there leg into traffic while waiting to turn  made me cringe.  They will never be removed and traffic will flow much better IMO.  Time will tell and may be wrong but hard to imagine the road being worse off.
