Police vigilant as 'Thaksin' plans return: No Assassination Moves detected

Lt. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuksuk, Deputy Commissioner, reiterated that the National Police Bureau has plans and readiness to receive Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, even if his return is postponed.

 

No unusual activities indicating an assassination plot have been found. Lt. Gen. Prachuap confirmed that the police are well-prepared for his return within this month, though the exact date remains uncertain, reported Siam Rath.

 

As various agencies, including immigration, royal security, public prosecutors, and the court, convened to discuss the impending return, details of Mr. Thaksin's arrival and the subsequent procedures remain undisclosed. The authorities stress their duty to maintain order and readiness.

 

Regarding Mr. Thaksin and his sister Yingluck Shinawatra appearing in Cambodia, Lt. Gen. Prachuap raised concerns about the lack of arrest despite being aware of their whereabouts.

 

He questioned if any international agreements or treaties were in effect. Furthermore, information about Mr. Thaksin's return to Thailand remains unknown and uncoordinated through relevant channels.

It is indeed a weird thing to announce, but perhaps Prachuap is simply indicating his awareness of history. Benigno Aquino was assassinated on the tarmac as he was returning to the Philippines in 1983 after three years of exile, leading to the People Power revolution, the end of the Marcos dictatorship, and the election of Aquino’s widow Corazon as president three years later. The circumstances of course are totally different, but this kind of drama has happened before.
